Essendon, West Coast, andr Carlton look the goods this year. Don't rule out Hawthorn, they could cause a lot of trouble in the finals. They could make a late run like the Saints did in 2010.

Geelong could irritable-old-man punch its way to the GF.

I believe Geelong are still the best team in the comp and will show that come September but Essedon have shown they can beat them even when geelong are at full intensity.

No, Essendon couldn't beat an u13s bush-league team if the game was played outside Victoria in recent past. So, that's certainly a benchmark or guide for how the bombers are traveling. If we beat the Pavs in Perth, or the Crows in Adelaide, then that's a good sign.
But seriously, until we win finals, we can't possibly make the big one, let alone win the flag. Let's see if we make the finals, then win a final, before we get too carried away....

Last year at Eithad, beat them fair and square, I did not think the cats were really off at all that day, just outplayed, whereas the loss against North this year was well, lets not get north fans more angry by disparaging that but there were mitigating circumstances.

If the Grand Final was going to be played at subiaco this year I'm almost certain west coast would be flag favourites, as it stands they are about 3rd or 4th favourites with most agencies with victorian clubs taking up the top 3 spots, it is a massive advantage that people underestimate when calculating legitimate flag threats. Its one thing making the finals but its a complete other to win the GF to have potential home ground advantage with that is enormous.

Eagles would be huge favourites if not for their injuries, not just number of injs but the quality.

Still think Cats are team to beat. Reigning premiers and Hawkins getting better every week. Scary.

As for Bombers, definitely top 6 contender. At our best we can match it with nearly every team. There's quite a few teams in same boat. It really is wide open.

definately outplayed that day. essendon were on fire. that was probably the best i've seen them play. they were awesome

Still i don't necessarily think that geelong brought thier super A game like they do for Hawks games and most finals over the last 5 years.

I wouldn't expect much more from a Hobart Kangaroos supporter. Then again, the Ballarat Kangaroos haven't got much to celebrate in the past few years and it would seem that the Canberra Kangaroos supporters feel the need to draw attention away from their own side.

Well, Essendon fans are on a hiding to nothing. If they win, OP will say told you so. If they lose, OP can point to any Essendon supporters who agreed with him/her and say we were cocky.
Season is young, we haven't won anything. At least WC went alright last year. Essendon behind Pies, Cats, Swans, Eagles, Hawks, Blues, and maybe Pavs until we have beaten those teams and beaten them in finals.

I think that says more about the fact that Carlton shouldn't be flag favourites - far too easily bullied.

Essendon are very unlikely to finish top four. I think what they should be aiming for is a home final and a win this year.

I suspect as of next year they will be legitimately pushing for a flag.

My thoughts too. I still see us finishing 5-8, as I did at the start of the year.

This years goal is to win a final. Simple as that.

We still don't have the strong bodies of teams like Geelong, Collingwood and even Hawthorn. I don't think we can stay strong enough for the entire year yet. We're still only very early in the season.

Give us another couple years and you can bet we will be looking at GF appearances, but for now our coach in Thompson, I mean Hird, will just look to keep winning game and building bodies.

Based on form yes they are legitimate threats. Guys like Stanton and Watson are at the peak of their powers, and must strike while the iron is hot.

Hard to believe Stanton has gone from being booed and bronx cheered off the ground by his own supporters, to a legitimate brownlow threat. Hird/Bomber doing a sterling job of putting the finishing touches on Knight's ground work.

Didn't think that being called Tulla was much more than a slap with a wet lettuce. We are going to be training out there, and it's not far from Essendon anyway. And North are training in North. Hardly bite-worthy bait, but then I don't have good people skills (I miss the obvious).

Essendon always fly out the gates, become poor mid season, stumble into the finals and eventually get embarrassed in the first final. With the current crop of players I can't see them making a preliminary final let alone winning a gf. This is a list seriously lacking in top end talent. It is an honest list that will not fill the gulf in talent between them and the top 4-5 sides. Hird should be commended for getting an average side to perform the way it is ATM though
