We all know Ablett signed a 5-year deal with the Gold Coast in 2010, he is now into his 2nd year and his contract with them expires in 2015, so my question is, will he come back to the Cats and finish his career where it started ? or will he sign a new contract with the Suns ?

He turns 28 next month, so by 2015 he will be 31, but i think he could play until he is 34-35, playing as a forward kicking goals.

The only concern is that the Gold Coast Suns might be playing finals footy by 2015, which would encourage him to stay with them and sign on.

What do you guys think ?

Funnily enough I thought of him maybe doing this as I watched him play on the weekend.
And I guess it is an outside possibility.

I personally don't see the Suns playing finals by then either.

Nah, the Suns will be scary by 2015. and we may well have taken a step backwards for a rebuild.

Having put in so much during the dark days of 100 point beltings, why would Gazza cut and run from GC just when they were starting to be serious competitors?

As long as he plays only 99 Games for Gold Coast it doesn't matter if he comes back....we want any future Gary Ablett's

no

he chose the dosh he can stay where he is - a traitor is not needed to break up this great team

we dont need him

We will try to scum his way back when he retires as he will want to cash in on the geelong supporters as he will want to freeload from somewhere

he chose the suns -enough said

No thanks, don't need an old codger running around amongst the likes of Menzel, Duncan, Guthrie and T. Hunt where our real future lies.

Wouldn't mind him in a forward pocket to be perfectly honest. The one thing that strikes me is just how ****ing sad the whole thing is. Now I know he left for the cash (who wouldn't have) but to see today's greatest player running around in the equal worst team is tragic for the game. Would be same emotion if pendles or buddy was there instead. This current Gold Coast team won't win a flag.

Nah, he wouldn't be in our best 22.

But seriously why would we welcome him back, he decided to leave for the cash, missed out on a 3rd premiership. Live with you decision. NO thanks.

DELICIOUS!

I won't and never will buy into the stupid "GC will be a top team in 5years" theory.

I've said it before, all it is based on is potential. Not results. Potential does not win you premierships.

Interesting that senior was in our rooms yesterday.

Get over it you guys!
Ablett was a champion at KP and is still a champion.
He is "in our DNA". He is always welcome back.

And those who don't want him, aren't!

I don't want Gazza back.

1. We are meant to be an unselfish team, not too reliant on any player. Gaz will not be able to rack up his Brownlow votes and SC points week after week if it means playing for Geelong.

2. Like we need that selfish sort of shit in our culture anyway. He left what every player can only dream of, for a heavy wallet. The Abletts are a legendary FOOTBALL name, but he tossed us aside for non-footy priorities. He knows we would never leave him on the streets. Jimmy and Selwood rejected millions from GC and GWS, don't see why the best player in the game can't have that sort of self control.

3. I want to see our now-young guns dominate, not have a 32+ yo hack running around in a team he betrayed.

I love him, but don't want him back.

Spot on.
A team of high draft picks means sweet f*ck all.
High draft picks are by no means guaranteed of becoming good players.
And even if alot of them turn out to be great players, who is to say they will play well as a team?

A post about Ablett and Forrest pokes his head out from under a rock.

So you're saying people with a different opinion to you should be treated lesser?

It'd be selfish if he came back. We want our young guys to develop, and that won't happen if we bring in unneeded stars

Probably still roots for Geelong

Exactly. A team of champions doesn't make a champion team.

Funnily enough i was thinking the exact same thing while watching St.Kilda defeat GC.

When the game was still up for grabs,(or Ablett thought so) he was up and about, continuously running to contests and generally fighting till the death.

When St.Kilda finally starting blowing them away he was the complete opposite, his body language was poor and he looked as though he was criticizing teammates.

Ablett jnr loves nothing more than winning and if the Suns don't improve to the point where their generally competing for a finals birth, Ablett will walk IMO.

I honestly see him back at Geelong before his Suns Contract runs out and i'd swap anybody on our list bar Selwood and Christenson to get him back.

In fairness, what a player to have around for the young blokes to develop with.
