This guy made his debut for the premiers on Friday and looked good with limited gametime. Drafted at #60 last year, I posted on him a number of times leading up to the draft as he was training with us until shortly before draft day, when he was told he wouldn't be considered. Odd decision, I remember thinking at the time.

Now, he's 195cm, an athletic key defender, very very quick closing speed and particularly hard at it for his 18 years.

Why, oh f-ing why, would we not have been interested in a guy like this? Obviously, he isn't exactly a 4-time All-Australian just yet, but crumbs - he was right under our noses and we told him to rack off. Weagles said thanks very much and now he may well flourish as so many other late draft selections have done over in the West. Damn it.

The blunders made with the first few draft picks are always the most documented, but with AK gone last year and Hall, Gaspar gone this year surely a pretty cheap KP defender with would have been attractive. Or, we could draft Peterson... nothing against the lad, but building a future around a spine appeals highly to me.

If someone can reassure me that this guy is a total muppet I'll feel much better, thanks.

Gee, saw a young kid called Daniel Connors make his debut on Saturday night. Played a pretty good game, got a bit of the footy in limted game time, flew the flag for a team mate by taking on Barry Hall. Believe he was taken at 58 in the draft.

And to be accurate, Scofield was drafted at number 50 so if we wanted to get him before that we would have had to use pick 26 - Shane Edwards - another kid who seems to be going pretty well for us.

Why don't you celebrate the good work done by us rather than concoct a complaint from one ordinary game from a kid on debut?

My understanding is that players can't train with AFL clubs prior to the draft - stand to be corrected.

I thought he was good. Basically a spoiler- not a huge amount more at this stage. That said ...

Wallce to Will Thursfield - "go out and play on an All-Australian, get no help, and if you conceede goals we loose and everyone will call for your blood."

Worsfold to Schofield - "sit on the bench for a half, we'll give you a couple of 10 minute runs after the match is decided. Don't worry too much, just try not to fall over your own feet and have fun".

He went to my school geelong college, i never really watched him play but people are going on about him and his debut. BTW i dont live in brighton i just said that cause i was previously banned lol.

I thought if you dont get invited to draft camp or state screening you are allowed to train before the draft. Tim Brown trained with Brisbane under this rule IIRC.

up the guts i would be sending a letter into the drafting department if i was you for them not listening/reading what you wrote on here. Many a quality player has been looked over only to go to another club and excell so i wouldnt be to worried about missing schofield, who knows it was only his debut and it could be his last game ever...
