This quote strikes fear into my heart:

"Adelaide's difficulty in trade week is that neither the Bulldogs nor Melbourne are compelled to work a deal with the Crows.

The Bulldogs can claim Hudson - without compensation - with the fourth pick in the pre-season draft. Melbourne can do the same with Meesen with the No. 3 call in the pre-season draft.

Carlton, at No. 1, and Richmond, at No. 2, have declared they would pass up on Meesen and Hudson if they enter the draft as uncontracted players."

Wouldnt it suck if this is the way it turns out? grrr :thumbsd:

Who exactly are you quoting? Yourself?

Adelaide football operations manager John Reid said the Crows would now negotiate trades for Meesen and Hudson with both the Western Bulldogs and Melbourne. Trade week opens on Monday week.

"There is nothing further to be done with Ben Hudson other than to do a deal with the Western Bulldogs," Reid said.

"John Meesen gave genuine thought to his future at Adelaide - which did change with Ben leaving the club - but has decided to join Melbourne."

Well this could be a disaster but C4[2]Yo`DooR has assured us we'll be getting a pick/picks in return for Hudson, so we need not worry about Huddo. As for Meesen, with the Dees set to throw away a few picks to the Eagles, they might not have much to offer.

Yeah Drummond thats what I was thinking.....would be a real slap in the face re Meesen for what has turned into another dud deal for the AFC....grrr

i believe the advertiser is trying to cause unnecessary drama stating that carlton and richmond would pass up on meesen and hudson in the preseason draft.. when did they say this? just because theyre not willing to trade for them doesnt mean theyd knock back to take either of them for nothing.

and even if they did say this, it could be a strategy by the clubs to give melbourne and the bulldogs the belief that they will get these quality players in the preseas draft and then carlton/richmond steal them right from under their nose.

Thanks for the link.

Dont think that its all that credible... its Rucci after all.

Exactly. Both sides could use ruckmen anyway. It would be amazingly bizarre for them to say they wouldn't take either for virutally nothing.

Had to go out today, hence I listened to the 5aa clowns, John Reid was on saying pretty much what is quoted above. That the Crows have been dealt a poor hand, but will do what they can.

I read that in this mornings paper, and my heart sank a little.

This would be terrible for the crows if we were to end up with nothing for both players...

I actually dont think we will get anything, WB and Melbourne know this and will hold off in draft week, I hope i am wrong but I am not expecting much in trade week....

I think it is only fair that Adeaide is fairly compensated for both players and I am sure The Bulldogs and Melbourne will work out equitable trades.

However, if the clubs read some of the posts on this board regarding these two players moving on, they may think a little differently.

Richmond think they've got Mitch Morton for their PSD pick. Melbourne will be pushing for Meeson in the PSD as well.

The Dogs will give the Crows a second rounder but "not necessarily our second rounder. We might try to trade for a later pick to give them."

Carlton have said they wouldn't be interested in a couple of possible PSD players now. Carlton have someone firmly in the gun for their pick.

Spot on. If you were melb or Wb recruiting manager, why would you trade? Get them for free and trade for someone else.... Things arent looking good on the trading front.

The Bulldogs will trade for two reasons. McMahon is contracted for next year and the Dogs are trying to convince him to stay, the Dogs don't want to shit on the Crows this year or the Crows might return the favour next year.

The Dogs also think they have the first 'alive' pick in the PSD and want to use it as leverage for a forward.

I hope you are right, but at the back of the crows mind will always be we may end up with nothing putting WB in a strong barganing position. Also, WB are probably the only club who would offer Hudson a 3 year contract. And also how hard is it any way to get a decent key forward. Who have you lured before apart form Rawlings and what a stuff up that was.. The Veal deal.... Huddo in the pre-season would be as good as it will get for you boys. And as far as the crows getting even, Port would be happy to step in and help you out if all got messy. If the Dogs dont steal him, they are paying way way too much for him, with 3 years 1 million and all. He would be great for your midfield

Karma, being a bitch to another club in trade week will come back to bite you in the ass next time you're not on the bottom of the ladder.
I agree. This is not about this year only. Its about maintaining a good working relationship with other clubs because the wheel does turn and you never know when you might need to deal with that club again. If you burn your bridges now, you will pay in the long run and its hardly something you wish to happen.

I think we will get something for them but I am certain it will not be anywhere near their market value and that is the most concerning thing for me. We will get something (I suspect picks) for both Meesen and Hudson and its up to us to make sure we use those picks well and come out in front.

The best we can hope for is a couple of 2nd rounders for these guys. We won't get fair value for them and as a result the trade week will be a big fizzer for us :(

Once again, for the trillionth time, Rucci has written a story on the AFC, that he would like to (due to his hatred of our club) see happen. That is, we lose Hudson and Meesen for nothing.

However, history shows that more players change clubs via trading than the pre-season draft. That is because, like previous posts have stated, clubs like to keep the peace with each other so that they can continue to deal with each other harmoniously.

Now, I'm not saying that what Rucci wrote won't happen, but the most likely scenario is still that Hudson/Meesen will get traded the week commencing October 12, and we will get something back in return (good, bad or ugly).

I was thinking, though, regarding Melbourne's pre-season pick 3. Surely they'll save that for someone better than Meesen? Won't they? I would have thought that there are more fancied uncontracted players on the market than Meesen?

We'll get something for Huddo but all we'll get for Meesen is a bag of beans IMO.

Meesen has shafted us 3 times IMO

Firstly, when he was drafted here, he never put in like a normal draftee has. Yes he's had injury but his attitude was so poor at one stage when playing for Norwood rserves that the AFC had to rebuke him for his lack of effort and intensity.

Secondly, he walked out on the club rather than have a crack at showing that he should be in our side as a ruckman - weak as piss.

Thirdly, he then chooses a club so low on the ladder that we have no trading leverage at all to even get a smidgeon of his true value.

John Meesen - man of no character. :thumbsd:

We need a ruckman, jeff white is getting on and jamr is rubbish. We are probably looking for Meeson to be the number 1 when White finishes up anf for PJ to be the back up. Would adelaide be happy with pick 37 for meeson, its better then nothing. Or would you prefer Mark Jamar for him:D
