Will we have salary Cap Issues

With some player's contract up next year (Pendlebury, O'Brien) and possibily recruiting a "name" player, will we need a Geelong mindset where players will take a cut to stay together? Like Dawes is suggesting.

I think that we may have some relief with 10 year players like,
L Davis
A Didak
B Johnson
D Jolly, and one over 30 player Tarrant where only 50% are included.

But I am concerned with GWS and Gold Coast and perhaps other clubs with more room in their cap may entice some of our players.

Do we need to be concerned as at this stage we are only losing Brown?

I am most concerned about Pendlebury. His one year contract extension spells trouble to me.

Free agency comes in at the end of his contract and on the open market how in the hell will we find the cash in the salary cap to keep him.

I know he said he wanted to see how the new player CBA pans out. I think this will play a big part as players are wanting more freedom to be able to have personal sponsors that are not included in the salary cap and are not stopped by the clubs who may have a competing sponsor - like Adidas sponsoring us & Nike sponsoring Pendles.

I have heard mumurs he is not that happy with how the club has handled a few of the sponsor issues and contract negotiations, however the new CBA may solve all that and allow him to earn more freely outside the club. If it doesn't, that may make it difficult to keep him around.

If the CBA is favourable, that combined with the general extra earning potential Collingwood brings and of course success on the footy field, hopefully means he will stay.

Think it has to be 10 years at your club to qualify

It is. 10 years at the club and over 30 y/o but Taz is eligible as it does not have to be consecutive.

Tarrant, B.Johnson & L.Davis are the only ones that qualify. It'd make a lot of sense for Collingwood to sign Swan on a four year deal and back end the contract to take advantage of the veteran rule.

The CBA and veterans rule will help us. Collingwood is one club that handles it's contracts well, so I'm not going to worry much about it, especially when pretty much every player is already signing for less than what they can get elsewhere, they know they've got something special happening.
