Excuse me on here.
Like many Hawks, I've maintained an interest in Zac's fortunes.

Will he be both the feelgood and tough luck story of the year, or has he earnt the right to auto recall??

I would say yes.

Once a player forms a key part of Ross Lyon's game plan for a significant length of time, they will come back very quickly, providing they are not coming back from a long term injury and they have shown good form. I was very surprised, for example, that Steven King came straight back into St.Kilda's best 22 on the weekend after his four match suspension. I would of thought Steven King would have had to earned his position back with a couple of good VFL matches, but Ross did not think so.

Sean Dempster came back reasonably quickly once after he had shown he had recovered from his knee, obviously Ross rates him for his very good second half of 2008.

I would say Zac will be fit and ready to fire in two weeks time. No question.

Hope so:thumbsu:

Absolutely.

Whenever Max has been in the team Zac has held his spot so in my mind there's no doubt whatsoever that he'll be straight back into the team for the Hawks game.

He's been outstanding this season and he'll be rushed back into the team because his form warrants it. :thumbsu:

I'm not so sure. There's a hell of a lot of competition down back, and should Hudghton be truly fit and firing it'll be interesting. If that happens, who comes out?

He will come straight back in unless Magurie get in and set but that is not going to happen now. Having said that a few cracks had started to appear in Zac's game. A loss this week will see him back for sure.

I thought Zac had been improving each week.

He's a big body and will look lumbering on occasion, but it's nice to know that a long bomb into the opposition's forward line is just as likely to be smashed over he boundary as marked.

And Max won't be with us forever.:(

I think he is lucky. The Hawks have two good matchups for Max and Zac , In Buddy and Roughead. Had it been some of the other teams the selectors may have struggled to find matchups for both of them.
If Hudghton plays at his best over the next two weeks it would be crazy to drop him for Zac.
Truth is Zac will be Max's replacement and they two don't really fit together in the team that well.

I think he's surprised everybody with just how well he has gone

OK so he's not perfect, but he has been a lot better than I expected he would be and we've certainly needed Cougar's services in Hudghton's extended absence

I've no doubt he is the "Max replacement", and was recruited with such in mind

Whether he can co-exist with Hudghton largely remains to be seen, but I would hope they can

Z Dawson | M Hudghton | S Dempster
S Baker | S Fisher | S Gilbert

Releases Goddard into the midfield, where we want him to be anyway

Dempster, Baker, Fisher and even Gilbo-Plug can all play small
Cougar, Hudghton, Fisher, Gilbo-Plug can all play tall

Whether Zac and Max can live in the same 22 is probably only this season's quandry

I think Dawson has earnt the right to come straight back in, whether he does or not may depend on match-ups or availability of other players.

Formwise he definitely deserves to be in our best 22, he's exceeded all expections so far this year, and he was pretty unlucky to be suspended for that incident. If he was suspended for a really undisciplined act like punching someone, that may count against him, but I don't think it will in this case.

I'd also like to think both Max & Zac can play in the same team, however again that will probably depend on matchups with the opposition. If you had to choose then Max probably deserves preference due to his experience and seniority, but it would also be a tough call to leave Zac out.

One reason we're all asking if Zac will automatically return is the continued great form of Jason Blake. He appears to be the forgotten man. He has slotted into that defensive unit and done the team things so well that all his detractors have quietened. Blake can play key position plus he is superb in the loose defender role when opposition forwards start manning up on our other running players (Gilbert, Fisher, Goddard etc).

Guilty as charged! :D

Team selection is anything but straight forward with us so despite his good form, and would like to think he comes straight back in but it may not be the case.

should come back in and play on roughead! gotta give the boy a chance to face the mob that threw him to the wayside, will have a point ala pebbles

If Hudghton had to play VFL I see no reason Dawson shouldn't if the 22's performing. Gut feeling though is that there'll be room for him somewhere, this weeks side could well be our weakest all year.

Hope he comes straight back in...

Will you guys cheer him/boo him or nothing?
They can't boo him, they didn't want him. When we played West Coast at Subi, just about every eagles fan was boo-ing gardiner n yet it was them who didn't want him. Some supporters r lame if they boo former players that are sent packing by their clubs. U can boo if the player chose to leave tho otherwise i see it as poor sportmanship at its best. So i hope hawks supporters support him in tassie in round 19.

Most of the Hqwks fans on here seem to like Zac and want him to do well, so I'd be surprised if he's booed.

Why should they boo him ? From what I hear, he never let himself go despite playing VFL and was as happy about Hawthorn's premiership as the 22 actually playing that day.

He didn't want to leave, Hawthorn delisted him.

I would like to think that Hawthorn supporters will be happy to see him be as successful as he is (albeit they probably now wish he was still in their team).

It would have been like us booing dean rice or Joel smith, it should not happen. Questionable whether or not it should happen at all.

Smith chased the $$$$$.
