I know this has been asked a lot over the last 18 months since Wood came to us, but I think with the NAB Cup GF a week away, and the season only 3 weeks away time for an answer.

Not only judging them on last nights performance, but on what I've seen over the last 18 months, I came up with the following;

Wood;

Strengths; Agility, Tapwork, Size
Weakness; Marking, Kicking, Intensity

Bryan;

Strengths; Intensity, Kicking, Marking
Weakness; Tapwork, Speed around ground, Agility

If I had to pick one, and we do for next week and beyond, at the moment;

MY CHOICE IS CHRIS BRYAN FOR THE GF AND ROUND 1.

Thoughts?

Actually Wood's marking is Quite good.

Those I hate to admit it but Bryan would be ahead of Wood at the moment.

Wood is good Tap Ruckman and has Size but his big Flaw is his lack of Intestacy and want for the Ball, Where Bryan gives a Contest and Can get the ball more those he can just have brain fades and Just bomb it to no where

And if Fraser is to play as the number 1 ruckman we can't have 2 players who lack intensity.
Wood will get better, I like him and only hope that hunger kicks in and he finds that intensity.

Pretty much agree with that. Wood's marking in the last two games has been poor, but generally last year it was good. Took some booming contested marks at times.

Bryan is just a journeyman, and frankly, I don't think he's much more than pinch-hitter at AFL level, but at least he's got mongrel and will give you a contest. Wood's got so much more ability, but doesn't seem to have the drive. He needs to get it fast.

I still have hope that Wood will make it. But he's entering, I think, his fifth year of football. Time to start converting some of that potential.

Bryan should play more games this year.

Wood is still young and has a long way to go. But he'll get there.

To me Wood seems as timid as a church mouse and at times seems totally disinterested in whats happening on the footy ground , where as Brian is definately improving all the time in intensity and also his kicking has come a long way , he does'nt just bomb it long anymore ,his long and short passing has been exceptional by his standards last night and last saturday in the vfl praccy.

Wood clearly has the ability, but as others have said, lacks the toughness & desire. I really hope he improves, because he could be an outstanding player.

Bryan has definitely improved over last year. His decision making was much better, he did some intelligent passes & hit the targets. He's always going to be limited, but at least he's ferocious in his intent & gives 100%.

Someone needs to inject Wood with adrenalin. That will get his heart pumping and doing the team things.

Bryan plays the final

Its that simple bryan plays the final and then in round 1 if he plays like he did last night

Bryan's kicking is a strength? There's more to kicking than being able to boot the ball 50+ metres. He misses targets and pretty much always tries to boot the ball as far as he can. Makes bad decisions with the ball, his kicking is good from a set shot, that's it.

Wood's kicking is better than Bryan's, he is just far more clumsy and lazy than Bryan and doesn't get enough of it.

As far as I'm concerned both are liabilities around the ground, Woody just edges out Bryan due to his superior tapwork.

I am starting to get a little annoyed with Wood.
He just doesn't have the intensity, he is ultra timid. He seems scared. Bryan is not great at all, but at this stage is is far infront of Wood. In saying that he is much older.

Neither - Play Keeffe

STUPIDITY

sorry dave its the only word that comes to mind
Why Not? Well I guess it's too late in the NAB Cup for him to get a Game but There was talk early of him getting a game and he been playing Quite well in the VFL Games

No dave, keefe has looked good against mediocre 18/19yo VFL kids

He is no where, NO WHERE near ready for senior action. He is only 80 odd kilograms FFS.

I know you hate bryan and love wood, but Bryan offers more as he is in form right now.

Please stop over rating kids who dont deserve that amount of pressure

I heard Keeffe was 91 Kilos. I have said Bryan should play in the GF with Fraser/Wood and I was saying Keeffe if he was going to play would of been in RD 1 of Rd 2 of the NAB Cup

I hope Bryan plays all year and Wood doesn't get a single game.

Harsh, and I rarely take such a blunt approach, but Wood just doesn't cut it. Waste of a draft pick (I mean, swapping it for him), and from what I saw yesterday Bryan has improved over the preseason which should mean Wood never plays again.

Woody is a great kid, I still think he'll come good. Only 21 still.

The lack of intensity and fire was a problem at Brisbane though too, I never gave it too much thought and assumed he'd get a bit of mongrel over time.

Yeah he is still 4-5 years away from his Prime but he does need to get some Mongreal in to him

Cam has fitness issues I reckon. He does some good things (is the best tap ruck on our list by miles), can usually kick the ball well, can take a strong grab, can drift forward for a goal.

Trouble is he sometimes looks very weak. It's kinda the curse of the 'athletic' ruckman. Josh also suffers from time to time and looks like a 202cm boiled leek.

Wood turned 22 on Wednesday, so he's got a bit more time before the deal is either viewed as a bust, break-even or win. And in fairness, he hasn't been that bad (remember Richards, Flaps, Loggy Smith, Michael Gardiner??)

With Bryan, what you see is what you get. Expect zero hitouts, stupid free kicks, blind long kicks to nowhere in particular, some great physicality and some good long goals. The sublime and the ridiculous...often in the one play!

That is 100% spot on Figgy, but right now Bryan provides the better back up for fraser.

hopefully by early year wood find forms and take overs but right now it bryan

Wood;

Strengths; Agility, Tapwork, Size
Weakness; Marking, Kicking, Intensity

Bryan;

Strengths; Intensity, Kicking, Marking
Weakness; Tapwork, Speed around ground, Agility
I'm thinking...

Wood:

Stengths - Agility, Speed, Tapwork, Kicking, Marking
Weaknesses - Intensity, Size

Bryan:

Strengths - Size, Intensity, Marking, Kicking
Weaknesses - Tapwork, Agility, Speed

I honestly think Wood's marking is fine, and while his height is great as a ruckman, he still doesn't have Bryan's size per se. He's got plenty of development left, and plenty of time to do it in.
