I don't get the thing with numbers. I couldn't care less who wears 17, 5, 22 or whatever number. Each player has to make the number their own. They are not sacred (except maybe 42 for sentimental reasons).

How so? Someone's got to get the number, and it might give Beamsy something to aim towards if he's got SSB's legacy to live up to.

Something tells me that Beamsy won't mind the hype and expectations that would come with wearing the number 17 too. He looks like he would look pressure in the face, stare it down then get a tattoo of it on his back

Gold! I tend to agree with you and VV. :thumbsu:

Why do you guys care so much about what number a player gets? You are all just going to overhype them anyway..

Im sorry mate but with 100 odd years history numbers take on a sense of signifcance, but hey when you get there you'll understand

I'm sure it happens with every clubs supporters. I see no reason why it wouldn't also occur at Essendon. That is, unless the bombers supporters aren't as enthusiastic at getting behind their teams players. If the player is good enough, they will be able to cope with the expectations.

I'm not overly phased by who gets what number but there is some nice sentiment to a champion player passing his number on to someone he thinks would carry it well like Buckley, Archer and Hird all did last year.

So if you are to work on that theory, you'd probably tend to think the #17 would go to someone already on the list like a McCarthy.

However if the club has decided young Beams has the attributes of Scott Burns then he can have the number. I'll barrack for the kids whatever number they wear.

For me, give 17 to J Mac. Really impressed with the fella especially in the finals series. :thumbsu:

I wouldn't mind it.

If it's the case give J-Mac 22. Although I reckon he may stick with 27.

Reitire that number #17

Ditto. Bucks made No.5 not the opposite.

hmmm i would put Gavin Brown and Darren Millane as most courageous

Ask Scotty who he wants to have his old number.

Whoever Scott chooses to wear his old number is the correct choice.
