Nothing, because the government is weak!
These non-rule abiding anarchists prove that nothing is written in stone

I followed this up today with the Department and Channel Nine. Channel Nine went on about business decisions and having to pay Foxtel for games.

I recieved this response from the Department:

· The anti-siphoning list is a legislative instrument made by the Minister. As you note in your email, the current list includes the semi-finals and final of the ICC One Day International Cricket World Cup, along with each match of the tournament involving Australia.

· Under the current anti-siphoning scheme, there are no requirements on free-to-air broadcasters to use the rights they have acquired to listed events or even when they do, to telecast those events in full and within a certain timeframe.

· The government appreciates that this can lead to scheduling decisions by broadcasters that sometimes frustrate sports fans.

· In response to these and other issues, the government intends to substantially overhaul the operation of the anti-siphoning scheme. The details of these proposed reforms were announced by the Minister on 25 November 2010: http://www.minister.dbcde.gov.au/media/media_releases/2010/103.

· These reforms will enhance the coverage of sport on television by requiring free-to-air broadcasters who have the rights to nationally iconic or ‘Tier A’ events to televise these events live and in full, with limited exceptions.

· These Tier A events will include the semi-finals and final of the ICC One Day International Cricket World Cup, along with each match of the tournament involving Australia.

· The implementation of the government’s reforms will require legislative change and these amendments will be introduced into the Parliament during 2011.

Just going to call them for the sake of it. Channel 9 shit me to tears.

Has anyone followed this up...they did show the nz vs sl match last night...whats stopping them from showing ind vs pak tonight!!! :thumbsd:

Ok the match of the century and CH 9 aren't showing it? This is a ****ing joke, this is the greatest rivalry in sport. Amazing over a billion people are going to be tuned into this game and yet we in Australia aren't going to be watching it.

This was the basis for Foxtel's "use it or lose" approach to the negotiations over the revised anti-siphoning list.

so they show nz v sri lianka but not india v pak?

sounds a little bit racist to me.

I spoke to some bloke in programming, originally they put me through to some recording saying the final will be televised, I assume this means they've been getting a few calls about it. Anyway the bloke in programming says they only paid for Australian matches and purchased the rights off Fox for the semi-final assuming Australia went through. He also said Farmer Wants a Wife will probably rate higher anyway and that they're a business and showing the cricket won't make them any money cause they said the rights for the match were worth a million.

But ask yourself this... why do you want to let yourself be surprised? When its going to be a safer bet for sport to be more and more be on Pay tv?

EDIT - What Im trying to say is: Why are you so disappointed that India Vs Pakistan is on Pay tv? With the anti siphoning list thinning like Chris Judd's hairline, the TV in your loungeroom serves as a video screen for 1. your foxtel box, 2. your blu ray player. 3. Whatever is free is effing useless

So they just assumed we'd get through to the semis? lol.....

Well we didn't and now they will cop it from everywhere.

Get stuffed 9 you ratbag, Don Burke rooting, cockroaches!

You forgot Darryl Somers and Hey Hey Its saturday! :thumbsd:

Why on earth did they bring that monstrosity of a 'show' back?

Couldnt they see from the Reunion Reminiscence that we saw the reasons why that show died itself in the a** the first time it was euthanised?

I know what you mean X, but it is a ****ing joke, why do they even pay for the rights to the cricket if they aren't/can't be bothered to show the important games? I mean this match last night had over a billion viewers but yet us suckers in Australia got to see jack shit, unless you can fork out the $$ for Foxtel.

Not everyone has or can afford Foxtel, it's just a complete disgrace and they aren't even showing the final of the WC, ****ing disgraceful.

Channel 9 are showing the second innings of the World Cup final. Still a joke though.

WAS second innings of a major final? We should all bow down to CH 9 and worship them for that, you are right it's a disgrace not just a joke.
