This is why the discussion re Cam Smith is strange. People assume that he just would have gone on winning tournaments and majors but the sport of golf is hard and as we have seen reguarly not many can stay at the top.

This may be unpopular take but I'd love to see Rory crash and Patrick Reed win just to shut up the LIV discussion. Don't think there's being a better player on any of the men's tours this year than Reed.

LIV came at the worst possible time for him tbh.
As soon as he signed, he was content that he could golf, have fun with his family and friends in Queensland. He even said so in an interview. His swing hasn’t been the same since.

It’s not - Phil had 6(!) runners up at the US Open. He could play those courses.

No one's disputing he couldn't play them, but his driving accuracy was the difference between pinching one and none at all.

In 2006 when he had the meltdown he only hit 2 fairways in the final round. In fact the only reason he had a chance was because of his otherworldly short game, which at Augusta you can get away with (that doesn't make it better or worse, you would never get moment like his pine straw shot at the US Open)

I wasn't as against Rory winning, but my non negotiable was him coasting to victory drama-free on the last day.

We are in serious danger of that now.
