Ok, in my opinion, they're ALL bad.

BUT, Glenn Manton is completely and utterly useless. I had to turn the sound off on Saturday.

I think he has improved a bit and says a few interesting things, but, yesterday, Wayne Carey crapped on for 5 minutes about how "Jones" won a couple of finals or maybe late season games for the Eagles by going forward and kicking bags of goals-did he mean Hunter???

Then he went on about how well Thompson was playing as a forward. Who the hell is Thompson??? Maybe Graham??? The other commentators sat their and didn't say a thing!

This year, we are suffering the worst group of commentators I have ever heard.

Wayne Carey is EASILY the BEST special commentator in the game...EASILY THE BEST. If you don't think so, then you're obviously on some medication. He is right 99% of the time, and a great insight.

Glenn Manton though was what the? on Saturday...he fell in love with the word 'junk time'. When he bought it up it made no sense. "insert young players name here is another player who is playing good in what we call junk time, but he would love junk time as it is a time when he can play good footy, when other players don't care about junk time" - a quote from Glen Manton...20 secs later, the word was bought up again.

To me, their is no such thing as junk time Glenn. There is on average 30 mins of football a quarter...not 20 mins + time on. If anything is junk time, it is a) when the umpire has blown his whistle, and players stand around. b) after a goal is kicked and the ball is bought back to the centre, players are getting back into position. Junk time is the time lost Glenn, not time on!

does anyone else think there is unwritten code amongst commentators that you don't correct your colleagues mistakes on air because it makes them look bad? The amount of absolute howlers of mistakes that aren't corrected at the time despite a box full of so called experts is unbelievable. I reckon their egos are so big it is probably written in their contracts!

They are absolutely horroble right now.

That was my first Manton 'experience'. I can't put into words how awful it was. How is he employed? Who listens to that and thinks he should paid?

Russell is a mess. All round rubbish human being.

Osborne is a twit.

It has got to the point that Dermie is one of the better ones. Carey is quality. Darcy is fantastic.

The rest are utter sh1t.

Please tell me you're joking....

Not at all.
IMO he is the most bias commentator going round, with his consistant ridiculous "surely that's a free kick" statement being pumped out every 20 seconds and in general favour for the team he barracks for.

Even Eddie is not that bias!!

Carey must have been watching the Pies game while he was commentating in Adelaide, because he really had no idea what he was saying for most of the game.

As for "junk time", I believe Dermie uses that term for the time during a match when the result is certain, ie. where one team is flogging the other and the team getting flogged gets late, cheap goals during "junk time".

Robert Walls for mine, he's a complete tosser, and is biased towards all Victorian clubs.... w***er with a capital W.
true. robert walls is a tosser. cant wait for the much anticipated return of the great sandy roberts.

thank god his commentary career didnt last long, but listening to paul salmon on triple m a few years ago was painful, to say the least.

Perhaps instead of trashing each others fav commentators we should start a thread with their mistakes and contradictions picked up each week, proof with time and game, then we'll see which ones are good or not .Cary said in a preseason game "he is great at making ball for the space"and no one picked it up.

They're more 'special comments' than actual commentators

But the worst ... Chris McDermott by a million miles. Changes his tune every five seconds, biased, arrogant, just plain dumb - and a total media sl.t to boot.

My favourite - Luke Darcy. I reckon he's terrific from what I've seen so far this season.

Stop whinging about the commentators. Turn the sound off. Improves TV footy by 1000%. Can't believe people still listen to the morons.

Wallsy, just an all around f#$kwit

dwayne russell, as i said in an earlier thread his useless trivia is a feeble attempt for people to positively recognise him for it and call it his trademark.

and huddo, the little man with the big head, they pad his jackets to make his oversized scone appear in proportion with the rest of his body, my hatred of huddo comes from his continual company line defence of umpires no matter the circumstances.

and andy maher (i'm sure those 9 letters in unison are enough to make the hair on the back of anyone's neck stand up)

We've heard the worst, what about the best? I don't have the opportunity to see much footy on fox but as for 9,10, abc radio, 3aw i'll go

1. Tim Lane (though i think he was better on the radio and i did prefer his cricket work)
2. Dennis Cometti ( Is this contentious? I thought everyone loved)
3. Daylight
4. Blight (Never heard a bloke so angry)
5. Rex (His work before and after a game makes him the best personality though)
