How well the Kangaroos go next year will largely be dependant on the fortunes of Smith and Hansen, ala Chris Judd and WCE 2002. We all know what the Simpsons, thompsons, Harris etc etc can and will do... so these 2 IMO are the difference between top 8 and bottom 4.

Agreed, and add two other names to that list as well, Blake Grima and Aaron Edwards, is the difference between us, bottom 4 and top 8

Interesting interview with Laids in this mornings Age. He again concedes that they got things wrong last year regarding fitness and game plan under the new rules - he further adds that he knew they were in trouble (gawn) at Round 4 and started planning for 2007!! He then advises that this year is different and it will all be spot on - I'm convinced ;)

He then proceeds to wax lyrical about Aaron Edwards and advises that he has kicked 5 goals in an AFL game! What the?????

He played 4 games for West Coast and averaged 7 possessions, 4 marks a game and kicked 2 goals in total in the 4 games.

Is Dean even sure who he recruited???

I think a lot will depend on how quickly the younger players can become consistant contributors and how well the new recruits take to gel with the rest of the team.

A problem we had this year is that we had a very unsettled side. Other than the midfield, our forward and backlines were all over the place.

In defense, we had Pratt, Perry, Petrie, Gibson, Lower, Green and Hay play there from time to time and they have not played much if any games there, many of them being first year players in the seniors. It is hard to gel as a cohesive unit when you haven't played much with the guys next to you.

It should be a lot more stable and settled next year.

Our forward line this year really had a lack of options, Rocca only played a handful of games as he was put out to pasture and we really only had Thompson as a target which makes it easy for the opposition to cut him out of many of the contests.

Adding in Edwards who was very lively in the VFL will be interesting, if it works out at AFL level. Hale is being taken out of the ruck and being played as a key forward aswell, along with Jones it gives us a few options. We have also drafted Ross, Thomas and Warren who can play smaller forward roles which could help to release Grant and Harvey into the midfield where they are far more dangerous.

The wildcard will be Hansen for us, I think he can be pushed down back or up forward as a third tall, I doubt he will be able to play in a key position in 2007 but I think if he is playing as a third tall he could play on lesser players and have the opportunity to run around and cause some havoc.

I think we will improve significantly, just feel the lack of experience may cost us a bit in 2007. If Laidley says the team will play more direct, play more aggressively then I think we will do okay because we played our best footy this year when attacking.

Not sure what dean is smoking in relation to Edwards 5 goals, maybe he is practicing his round one speach. :p
