How old is he, like 25 or something? A lot of guys don't grow into their bodies till around that age, and once they hit that age, their durability increases and the soft tissue injuries become less frequent. McPharlin was pretty injury prone when he was younger too and although he is still to some extent, he definitely has a much more durable body then he did in his earlier days. Ellis still has some chance of being an A grade player. He has time on his side and his best has shown he can be. I'd also back us in to get his body's right. We've shown we won't risk a body until they are absolutely right. If we can get him up for when finals come around, his precision kicking could really help out. Anyway, just thinking out loud.

To me he seems like a step 2 type of deal. If we have to give away a bunch for a Sam Reid type that will change our hunger to grab him. If we give up some young mid/backs then I would think he comes more into consideration. If we are trading away a deBoar or Mello type then I would go to the draft rather than to Ellis.

Don't know why people are so against Ellis. I'd take him.

When I think of Ellis, I think of a weak and fragile footballer. I can't see what he adds to the side. Maybe he is an OK kick?

Someone like Sylvia, you can see he has potential to be a strong/explosive player who can tackle hard and bust games open with his offensive weapons. I don't see anything in Ellis apart from depth. Maybe that's OK if he is relatively cheap, but I'd still rather pay a kid minimum wage than the 300k we'd have to pay Ellis.

^^ My thoughts exactly, dont get it.. but the more im hearing the more it seems we will grab him if he passes the medical.

Danyle Pearce on the outer? He is a soft outsider that was fumbly like a 16 y/o boy trying to undo his first girlfriends bra for the first time. Xavier is in the same mould but went within a whisker of a Norm Smith. Proven big game performer.

Just guessing but I was in the stands and myself and a few other said he lacked composure more than anyone that day. His fumbles and his much vaunted left foot were glaring. Replace Xavier with Danyle that day I would still be too drunk to post on Bigfooty I think.:(

It is Football - Hawthorn proved what good kicking is worth

It is relative.

Fremantle just played in a grand final after enduring a season with regular best 22 players out injured.
A grand Final team doesn't necessarily have to trade a gun player to get a player they want.
A player that is in the range of 23-30 in a top side can be a prized recruit in a lesser team.

Further, in regards to draft picks, if a club has an early pick but require a particular player who has proven form and can secure that player from another club, then they would do the deal.
People sell things that can be of nominal value to them but high value to the buyer.

Not relative at all, the blokes negotiating the trades these days aren't morons. You wont get something decent without giving something decent.

That's a touch over exaggerating. We would all be drunk has Fyfe kicked straight, ballas turned on or even the umpiring werent so pathetic. Pearce played every game this season, was massive on terms of speed and outside helping hill develop even more. One year won't be the end all, for him that would be over the top

I agree he had an above average season but I was a little dissappointed with his kicking over 23 rounds. Wasn't nearly as good as it was hyped.

But in the GF Fyfe et all had a very blustery swirly breeze to contend with. Roughy said after the match along the lines of "It was a case of kick it straight at the goal and hope for the best because the wind was too flukey to know which post to aim at". Pearce was like a deer in the headlights all game, I'm not saying he was the lone ranger, just that Xavier is his only obvious upgrade imho.

This post here is 100% quality :thumbsu:.

Victim of injuries and poor coaches. He'd be a star in this new Fremantle. Did I mention he got a Brownlow vote?

And he played well against Collingwood too...:)

Maybe this could validate those who are looking at a Hill trade, could Ellis be there to fill in his position, whilst we trade Hill+Mello/Michie for a big fish?
Zero chance. We won't be involved in a big trade, Bond has stated free agency is how we improve our side. We will only trade on a needs basis eg. Mellington wanting out
