Xavier Ellis

Wouldn't make sense, he's been on the list for one year and he was injured for most of that year. Although I still don't understand why we took him over Membrey.

not the right option imho, not many people would've done it, but for some reason we did and Lester-Smith looked at too.
Makes you wonder what they want to change. Walters to midfield almost a certainty. Slightly taller forward line there maybe??

Which is my point about how hard it is to find room on our list for Ellis, personal opinion on Duffy just don't see enough but he isn't that old I guess.

Ballantyne and Sylvia say hi ;)
Ballas was there before. Well Silvia, can work, but I'd guess the better combo would be Silvia in the middle and Walters up forwards. Surely a rotation will take place, but I'd go with mainly that way. But surely the best way has to be found for both. Sop I wouldn't be surprised when I am wrong and it went the other way...

Im with you, 46 goals from Walters this year... He wont be playing midfield.

Given the incoming interchange rules I reckon a player's versatility is paramount. As a consequence, I reckon players like Walters, Fyfe, Sylvia, Mundy, Mzungu, etc will be playing in more than one position in order to facilitate 'positional rests'.

Of course, it will be a case of Walters resting in the midfield to prevent fatigue from all of the goals he'll be kicking ;)

This only makes sense if you think that he is coming in preparation for McPharlin to retire and we need some one to tide us over until Smith is doing the Job. It Does leave our back line undersized but it the only thing that makes sense.

That makes no sense at all. He's a completely different player to McPharlin.

Agreed. I can only think that it is about freeing up MJ to move in the a more conventional back type role, or some other back line reshuffle. Certainly we don't need more rebounding backs. That is unless one of them is being traded.

All in all I am not a fan of this pickup.

Unless RTB likes the idea of MJ up forward and Ellis as the Birchall role

why are we even considering injury prone players like ellis and gumbelton?

they will be on a 3 yr contract and turn out to be list cloggers.

We wouldn't offer either of them 3 years surely?
But I think the premise of your post is right, especially with Ellis. If we can't trade Mellington and then delist him with a year left on his contract just so we can get Ellis onto the list, well I can't see the logic of that.

Agree with this.

Gumbleton and Ellis could well turn out to be decisive errors if FFC sign them. They have career long questions over their durability. The Fremantle style of play will not do their bodies any favours.

Ellis doing a medical test... This will be interesting!

Solid utility, puts his body on the line like Hodge it's just his body can't cop much of it. Was vital in our 2012 QF, but then Maxwell had to go and jump on his knee.. we then played him injured for the next 2 games. Clarko rates him highly, played him injured in the 2012 GF and even this year rushed him back ahead of a lot of depth we thought were ahead of him.

Lyon will like him because he's versatile. Back flanker, inside mid, outside mid, tagger, defensive forward... Hopefully you guys can get him on the park if you do pick him up.

I appreciate you guys won the VFL final. Who is your midfield depth outside the 22 fielded in the GF? I thought Ellis and Savage would be essential as midfield depth but your club doesn't think so. Jed Anderson showed a lot of promise. Is their much else?

Health permitting I wouldn't mind if we grabbed Ellis but this made me laugh.

Aaaaaand before you know it...

A couple of lines in a radio interview is front page news on afl.com.au

Gees he sounds good. We should grab him. Gotta love trade week.

Whitecross to come back from injury. Cheney/Suckling/Duryea in defence would push Hodge/Burgoyne up the ground. Anderson has played. Woodward/Hallahan/Langford should take the next step next year.

Not that solid, but I have a feeling we'll pick up a Mav Weller type like we did with Simpkin this year.

Whitecross won't play next year.

He should be able to. He did his ACL in the QF last year and was back round 10ish. This time did it in PF and I reckon we'll give a longer time to build so around round 18-20.
You should assume that his recovery will be a year. This is the average. Having rehabed in less than average period the first time doesn't mean he will again.

X-Man has a pinpoint left foot. He goes in hard and uses the ball well, adds good defensive pressure. He also has an excellent footy brain. Many people from inside Hawthorn rate him for his footy smarts.

It's a massive gamble if you take him as he has played 16 senior games in 3-4 seasons. If he's fit (which is a HUGE if) he would be a good player across half back flank!
