Multiplat XCOM 2

It's available for PC in the Humble Monthly Bundle this month, for about $15AUD for anyone that's interested.

Have only given it a quick look - but had a crash to desktop which required a reboot so that soured the purchase a bit.

I just realised this game is made by Feraxis games which has garned my interests as I am assuming it is a real time or turn based startegy game.

Anyone got an opinion on this game for me?

OK obviously a huge imo attached to all this
:)

It's a quality game.

Possibly a little bit of a niche being a turn-based squad-based strategy alien v soldier RPG with a good dose of resource management thrown in but (like the first game) what it does, it does very well.

If you've enjoyed any turn based strategy game like Valkyrie Chronicles I think it's one you should definitely check out... as long as you can enjoy an unforgiving game.

Not many people can play through it in one hit and be done with because dead is dead for your soldiers (of course constant save/reloads is always an option) but if you get into it, it can easily be the sort of game you replay for years trying different combinations and challenges.

Sweet. I love Civilization so since it's made by the same guys I'm definately going to have to grab this game

Finally got round to War of the Chosen, its bloody good, so much better than the base xcom2 which I thought was probably a bit below 1. They've added so much - the 'Chosen' bosses you have to fight against obviously, but also factions and hero classes, new enemies, a long war-esque fatigue system.

But probably the best addition is the variance to the mission types - I found in the base game it all got a bit samey after awhile with only about 4 or 5 standard mission types. WotC has more but also mixes things up in a very clever way - SitRep modifiers that really change the way you play, for example you might start with the entire map and all aliens revealed or have advanced warning that all enemies are of a certain type.

Well worth the price of the expansion IMO, its like a whole new game. Only downer is I'm still on PS4 which barely runs it lol. I need a new PC :(

I was thinking of getting WotC last week but I'm still ploughing through Yakuza and just realised Kingdom Come Deliverance is out next week so I might need to put this on the backburner again.

Good to hear it's a worthy purchase though. Love the XCOM games. I even have the Squad deployment music theme in my gym playlist just to get me amped :D

XCOM2 was really cheap in the recent Steam sale so I got it (finally). Started playing (with WotC) yesterday, and it looks the goods. I think originally I put this one off because of reports of a fair amount of bugs when it released.

Even after getting a new PC, this still made the cut to be reinstalled.

One of my favourite games to jump back into every now and again. Can be very frustrating but also very fun and satisfying.

I have loved this game since PSX original and terror from the deep. I didn't finish this iteration. Maybe I should reboot it since I'm now officially on holidays.
Be rude not too.

I never played the dlc war of the chosen which is also on special on steam, may have to be done.

I got into X-Com games in the late 90s when I got a (legit) copy as a freebie from somewhere. Took me ages to understand the game, and then longer to actually finish it (somewhere in the mid to late 00s). I loved the concept, but so friggin hard back in the day, especially to my FPS addled gaming brain.

I'm a few days into it, it's pretty good. Just finished a mission last night where one of the Chosen nearly wiped my squad, and now 80% of my roster are either injured or tired (need to get an infirmary built).

Oh, and now one of my higher level soldiers is scared of enemy mech units, so he's going to panic every time one of them shows up. I love how creatively brutal this game can be.

Got through this last year after picking it up cheap on Steam. Absolutely incredible game. Played through the standard campaign once, then did WotC once.

However, I can't stop myself from the temptation of save scumming. Just can't help it, even though I know it removes the element of risk. I'm just too damn attached to my squad.

Legendary series of games with the famous RNG that will make you tear your remaining hair out when you miss a 99% shot one too many times.

I played this a couple of years ago... I didn't think it was something I would enjoy but was on special... I did enjoy it... Finished it a couple of times now 😉

Or the reverse, last night I one-shotted one of the Chosen from across the map with my sharpshooter using squadsight and a basic repeater attachment. Couldn't believe it.

It made up for my ranger's melee miss a few turns earlier.

It's all part of the story when they die! I kinda like seeing the memorial wall fill up with names, and memories of how you ****ed up and got someone killed one of your soldiers bravely sacrificed so the squad could complete the mission.

I did finally finish a Classic Ironman run on Enemy Within, never really tried Impossible and only tried Ironman a couple of times on Xcom2.

Was really enjoying WotC and should get back into it and finish it once at least, especially for console players who didn't get to experience The Long War mods, it adds so much to the game.

Sometime over Christmas holidays, War of The Chosen expansion was on sale for about $10. Well worth it for that price and another playthrough.

I am a decent way in to my first WOTC campaign, the game still holds up a second time, and is as brutal as ever, especially early/mid game before your soilders get somewhat OP. I have never played on max difficulty though.

I am hanging and hope they create an X-COM 3 or similar one day.

Another impressive thing is this game also holds up really well on console, I'm playing it on PS5 and it's extremely user friendly and good controls, something turn based doesn't always do so well.

That's when I got it finally :)

The ending seemed to hint at a Terror From the Deep 'remake' as the next game.

As an aside, Firaxis made Marvel's Midnight Suns which is due in March. Similar gameplay, different setting. There's also Phoenix Point, made by the guy who designed the original X-COM: UFO Defence, which is similar but has fairly mixed player reviews.

Love/hate.

I love the core of the game, the strategic elements, the combat.
I hate the timewasting elements, the move limits, the WOTC bullshit.
I love the customization, the visible progress from a rookie to a colonel.
I hate the stress mechanic, the sheer amount of bullshit RNG.
I love the themes, the story, the mickie-mouse level of evil of the aliens and the campness of the storyline.
I hate the glitches, the crashes, the limited save system and the massive, massive, massive load times.

XCOM 2, the game, is one of my favourite things ever. XCOM 2 the bullshit is just the biggest time sink and aggravation I own.

I hate the stress mechanic, the sheer amount of bullshit RNG.
The amount of times I've had my whole squad set up on Overwatch only for them all to miss, or even worse the amount of shots I've taken that are listed as 80+% hit chance when I'm like only 2 squares away and my soilders shoot wide with a shotgun.

That sort of s**t costs you missions or gets soldiers killed unless you are willing to reload the previous save.

Not to mention trying to Hack/shutdown with my specialist. 70+% successful hack chances seem to somehow fail 80% of the time.....
