Young star considering boycotting draft

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I think it's reprehensible that a young bloke has been tarred with the brush of being selfish and arrogant, on the back of a nothing article in the Herald Sun that doesn't provide one single quote, even from "an unnamed source", or one single scrap of evidence.
People will believe anything they read in the papers.

I think it's funny how everyone in this thread has ignored the fact that there is not one single quote or scrap of evidence that Coniglio has even considered boycotting GWS.

There is very little substance to this whatsoever.

OI! Stop putting facts into the story, you know that's not the way BigFooty works.

This thread is astounding. Some of you keyboard warriors lapping this article up are pathetic.

I havent read the article my self but this rumour has been around before I think. My post was more of a general statement saying that you should play for the team that picks you. Everyone knows that when you go into the draft you have no control over who you play for, unless you are a F/S pick.

I am sure there a hundreds of players that would be scared about going into the draft, especially ones from WA and SA. If he does decide to commit to the draft, and sticks to GWS, then good on him.

I remember reading in the Draft by Emma Quayle, that Brad Ebert didn't mind where he went, but he defenitly didnt want to go to WA. He then gets picked by West Coast. Ironic.

It is pretty pathetic to be honest. You play for the team that picks you. While I will never play for a AFL club because I am in a wheelchair, I would keep my allegiance to the club that picks me. If it was Port, so be it. Yes I would hope the Crows pick me, but that rarely ever happens. Dyson Heppell is the only player that comes to mind recently. Surely he knows that GWS will be a powerhouse in 5-6 years time.

Could do a Chris Judd. Comes from Melbourne, picked by West Coast, has to go the other side of the country and then plays in two grand finals with them. Wins a brownlow and a premiership. Has does everything he could do with them and then decides to move back home.

I have no doubt this is what could happen to him as well. He will have other clubs drooling over him, especially WCE and Frem. If he gets picked by GWS, he plays with them for 2-3 years, and then demand a trade back home. Frem and West Coast would want him, but GWS would demand something huge in return.

Still should stick with GWS though. He would be crazy not to go there.

Pretty sure darling supported wce

There probably will be a sweetheart deal In which Rhys Palmer goes to GWS and somehow Freo end up with this kid. Clubs have made in house deals with other clubs not to draft players certain clubs want.

Or GWS could just take Palmer and give them nothing (AFL conjures pick from thin air).

I remember that draft documentary, didn't Headland wear a fremantle cap to his draft interview with the Lions? It didn't help him.

He needs to "do a darling" (no pun intended) ... and do a darling... on a school camp

Put other teams off him and let him sliiiiiide down the drafting order

a "conjured" punch in the head maybe too? .. doesnt really need to get hit (unlike another) .. just feed some crap to the West Australian about some altercation and get a doctors note, story will spread like wildfire across Australia .... God knows journos dont mind lies and publishing more lies from a known liar .. cue school girl of the St Kilda variety

Him declaring he doesnt want to go to GWS is just the beginning if he really wants to stay in WA then <insert unfavourable story here> in the next few months, is it illegal? .. players tanking the draft .. has it happened before?

Theres an easier way. Befriending Kim Duthie on facebook!

Should be Dropped from the WA u-18 Side then if he does not want to be Drafted

So would've that been the same case a number of years ago when FIGJAM Buckley cried about only wanting to play for Collingwood. In the end he sooked so much that the bears made a deal to off load him after a year. Think it was also the case of Jason McCartney who's father wrote to every club telling them not to draft him as he wanted to play for Collingwood, and the AFL let him have his way. If this kid doesn't want to play for a made up club and be forced to live in the sticks of Sydney where he'd be too scared to go outside with fear of being assulted or robbed by the millions of bogans that live there then let him go to at least a club in a state where he feels he'd fit in.

It wasn't him, Jason was an Essendon supporter as a kid. You're probably of this Adelaide kid, Chambers?

Yep, Brett Chalmers.

Maybe he should just move overseas, fall off the radar for a year, get his name changed, nominate for the draft and get picked up as a 4th rounder by WCE of Frem, then change his name back ...

1) move overseas for a year and fall off the radar
2) get his name changed
3) nominate for the next draft
4) give WCE or Frem a call on the day informing them of the said new name
5) WCE or Frem pick him up with a 4th rounder
6 $$$ Profit $$$

why not just sit on there list for 2 years then leave them and go anywhere he wants after that?

Sounds very immature

Nothing better then screwing GWS or GC lol

Who do you believe. Dad or the Hun?

Clearly the hun is just making up shit since they cant find out any information on what GWS is doing

First it is found out that GWS has never made any offers to Ward,
Now we find that the hun made the whole story about Coniglio wanting to dodge the draft was a complete lie.

If true, it's a spit to the face of every kid who is not quite good enough but still would do anything to play AFL.

So if he manages to slide he'd end up at GCS (fledgling club #2) or Port/Brisbane (not so hot right now).

Pretty poor post.
Not only did you get McCartney wrong (it was Chambers), but the Buckley from Brisbane to Collingwood saga was nothing like you say.
Brisbane knew nothing about Buckley but made an under-the-table agreement with North who did, to take him as a zone selection, then on-trade him to North after a year. The trade had been signed off by Buckley before he was even at Brisbane, but then Collingwood came knocking, offered more and were more clever, and Buckley already had his heart set on moving after the Brisbane had previously agreed to it.

It was a messy situation, but Buckley was just a kid everyone wanted and got bad advice from those around him.
