My first game...well picture this, 6 year old Hoggy, top of the Ponsford Stand in the second row...Pies have won nine on the trot, it's mid 1990....and f&CkInG STEVEN KOLYNIUK 5$#%@#%#@#%#%@#$%@#$%# runs around Graham Wright to put the Dogs three points up.

I cried that day.

My first game was in 1989 v Footscray at the Western Oval, which is odd because I lived in Wantirna South at the time. Went to one other game that year, v North at Waverley.

First full season was 1990, it was bliss! Went to 10 games that year (including all the finals except the GF), which is I guess a reasonably high number for a 6-year-old.

My first game was either 80 or 81, i was 5 or 6, it was at Vicpark against Carlton. What a great intro to footy, place was packed as it was Carlton, we were in the standing room area near the goals at the eastern end of the ground(forget what that end is called). Don't remember too much about the game or if we even won. But i do clearly remember the massice brawl that started in the crowd, with fists and cans of Heavy Beer flying everywhere.

No way my Dad just told me that was my first game but I can't remember it the first I remember. The first game I remember real well is proably the the round 3 match against the doggies in 01 we won by heaps
madd. all i can remember was scott russell running out onto the ground by himself.. i still dont know why tho.. was he coming back from injury?

My first Match was Round 9 2005 .. at the MCG against the Eagles.

For those with a good memory the eagles were 8-0 (1st) we were 1-8 (16th)... and those mighty pies got up and won !!! was one of the best days of my life !!

I am moving to Melbourne this year From Hobart .. and since that game against the eagles i am 8-0 at collingwood games .. I'm proud of it holding onto it as long as i can !!

I remember that game - It was the 2nd Game I ever went to by Myself and What a Great Win,

I thought we where going to Get Flogged but we Stuck it up them, In Fact I was not even going to go because I thought we had no chance but on the day I decided to go - Bloody Glad I did:thumbsu:

Mine was in 1984 against the Bumbers at Victoria Park.
Those were the good days.
Turn up at 10am. Watch the second half of the under 19's.
Then at 11am the reserves would start.
Followed by the seniors at 2pm.
How l miss these days.

l think we lost that day, but it was the day that Paul Salmon did his knee.
He was on fire that year and had kicked about 4 or 5 in the first half, before doing his knee.

The Under 19s played at the away ground when the First and Seconds played at Vic Park. There was only ever Reserves and Firsts ath that time.

The first match I ever remember watching, on the old Pye Precedent black and white tele was Collingwood v Richmond Preliminary Final in 1973.
I remember because it was when I decided I was a Collingwood supporter.
I played in a local junior side which wore Carlton colours and boasted the Alex Jesalenko as a a former player. Collingwood lost but I remember the absolute sea of spectators.

The first game I ever attended was the drawn 1977 GF.:(
I was billeted with a family from Doncaster and they were North Melbourne supporters. I had to go back home before the replay..thank god.

Despite the draw I thought it was the greatest thing I had ever seen, VFL Grand Final and Melbourne City, the largest city I'd been to being Canberra and before that a cane farm in FNQ. I remember a mob of "Sharpies" going off on the train home and the cops stopped the train a few stations later to grab them...lol.

I have uploaded the highligths of the 73 PF on youtube in four parts

Part 1 is here

but make sure to watch all 4 parts as all the highlights I have shown are Magpie highlights even though the game was a carbon copy of the 1970 GF.

My first game though I dont remember much about it as a 4 year old was last round 1962 at Windy Hill which apparently was a draw.

Went to other games in 63 and 64 but in 65 bought my first membership ticket in an unbroken run. The first game I saw in 65 was Coll v Rich Round 2 which we won.

far out we got some old timers on our board

I first went to the footy at Viccy Park in the late 70's. Its a bit of a blur, but I would've been ten or so at the time. I dio recall a loss to the Hawks and some violence vs Footscray, but it could've been '76, '77 or '78.

My chief recollections are of gravel, sunshine, cigarette smoke, beer & pie aroma and the tiny footy record.

Anyhoo, I tied an onion to my belt (which was the style at the time)....

You won't believe it I actually saw your thread while I was posting.

LOL.

I was checking to make sure I had the Prelim Final bit correct, as 1973 was a while ago. I knew it was a final v Richmond but didn't want to call it an elimination etc. in error. I did a google and your thread came up...I thought it was a bit spooky.
Great memories, while posting I could got a similar feeling I had when I was first discovering Aussie Rules and the Mighty Magpies.

Like remembering an old girlfriend from my youth.:D:D

i think my uncle has the worst luck, every game he goes to we lose, for the last 6 years he has not been to a game where we have won. poor bugga, ill take him to round 2 when we play Melbourne nxt yearm hopefully we win:D

**** off..........are you insane????
Leave him at home.:D:D:D

Early 80s would have gone to plenty at Princes Park with brother and uncle, but first I remember was going to Vic Park and watching us beat North Melbourne in 86. On my grandfather's shoulders for most of the day in the back row of the RT Rush Stand.

I went to quite a few Vic Park matches, but never sat in the Sherrin, Ryder or Bobbie Rose stand, and didn't ever frequent myself with the famous Hill. It was always RT Rush for me and the wonder of standing room. It's sad the stand is getting pulled apart, but I will always have my memories.

Plenty of great watching over the past 20+ years. Let's hope my 25th serious year of barracking produces that elusive flag.

I was at the replay of the Prelim final in 1990, but that's just the earliest game I remember - I was probably at an earlier game.

Qualifying final you mean, we never played in the Preliminary in 1990, we got through via the second semi against Essendon. (belted them then too :p).

My earliest memory, geez... it's very vague probably around 1986 and the time of the New Magpies was when I first started to fully understand it.

Deeper than that though shit I was pretty much born with a football in my hands. :o

I'm bored , so I thought I'd post mine considering I hadn't yet.

My first game was Brisbane V Port Adelaide at the Gabba, Round 16, Saturday night, 21st July 2001 (at 7:40pm) <-- I only know those details beccause I still have my Brisbane Lions 2001 Year book :p. My Grandad took my sister & I, we were with out Auskick group. My parents were up in a corprate box getting "royaly plastered". We got to play on the ground at half time, which I thought was pretty awesome, considering I was really sick for that whole day & night. I remember nothing of the game, just little bits & pieces that happened around me before & after the game.

My first Collingwood game was when they played Brisbane at the Gabba, I think it was around 2004 sometime. We had horrible seats, so I didn't see any of the game, appart from a few black & white flashes in the distance. Collingwood were loosing really badly, so we left early so we wouldn't get attacked or lost at the end.

First game at the MCG was this year :D Collingwood V Brisbane, It was a pretty amazing experience for me. I loved it & wish I could do it more often.
