Your clubs 26 and under side

Remove this Banner Ad

Based on the 1994 cut-off date in the OP.

B: Daniel Cordy Scott
HB: Williams Gardner Dale
C: Smith Dunkley Hunter
HF: Vandermeer Naughton Lipinski
F: McLean Ugle-Hagan McNeil
R: English Bontempelli Macrae
I: West Richards Khamis Schache

Others: Weightman, Cavarra, Hayes, Sweet, Young, Garcia, Butler, Bedendo

The bolded are currently in our best 22. That side would probably knock off most the bottom 6, given 15 played on Friday night. That's a pretty good bench too, with all of those players very close to senior selection.

Our best 26yo-and-under side would be comfortably better than the one we fielded that beat GWS up there last round:

B: Wilkie Howard Paton
HB: Coffield Highmore Sinclair
C: Billings Steele Jones
HF: Butler Battle Gresham
F: Membrey King Higgins
R: Marshall Clark Crouch
I: Long Lonie Bytel McKenzie

From the team that played GWS (best 22 bolded)

Out:
B Hill
S Ross

J Webster
S McKernan
P Hunter

In (best 22 in bold):
R Marshall
M King
B Crouch
Z Jones
B Paton

The only ones over the age of 27 in our team against GWS were Hunter (who turned 28 a month ago) and Mckernan (30).

Just a few short months ago we would have assumed our future was stuffed and once we tumbled would be in no man's land for a while. But our view of the future has since changed.

If you look at the above best 22 our entire starting forward 6 are currently in the best 22 (Jones dropped for this week but has been regular b22 this season) and our starting 6 backline has arguably 5 of our current best 22. And even sub 10 gamer HEdwards showed the goods while Gov was out injured.

Even the midfield has a number of regulars in Kelly, Sheed, Nelson (tagger), Williams with LEdwards now just breaking in and Foley unlucky to miss this week.
But unlike the backline and fowardline the midfield is lacking star power apart from Tim Kelly.

The future seeming a lot brighter than we had thought (and dare I say it, it's looking bright).
Injuries really does give a team a chance to see what they've got and indeed to blood some youngsters.
It's not coincidence that in our 2018 Premiership year we debuted the highest number of players in the AFL.

FB: Chapman Pearce Logue
HB: Hughes Cox Young
C: Acres Serong Aish
HF: Henry Treacy Frederick
FF: Schultz Sturt Switkowski
R: Darcy Cerra Brayshaw

I/C: Meek Crowden Walker Blakeley
Sub: Bewley
Emerc: Valente, Duman, Giro

Need tall forwards (again) and some midfield class for rotation. Drops of quickly after the starting ones.

True. Well except for

Mundy
Walters
Lobb
Taberner*
Wilson
Colyer
Well.......

Sean Darcy is our main ruck and in his 5th season, was immense in the final quarter vs Heath grundy in the ruck

Saying that, freo kicked 14.7.91 vs the magpies.

Lets look at the Goalkickers....

Lobb 3 goals
Schulz 3 goals
Henry 2 goals
Bewley 2 goals
Switkowski 1 goal
Traecy 1 goal
Brayshaw 1 goal

Crowden 1 goal

Not a bad list of goal kickers.

All those blokes bolded and underlined are aged 24 or under.

I could of added bewley but he just turned 26 years old 2 months ago. Lobb is 28 years old.

This is the legacy of Ross Lyons youth policy of 2016-19. LOL.

FB - Noble, Keane, Maynard

That HF line has me all nostalgic

Geez, a lot can change in 6 months when a few debutants show what they’ve got at senior level.

Three quality ins in McCreery (leading the comp for tackles inside 50), Bianco (the most special of the debutants), Lynch (broke even or beat O’Brien and Gawn in last couple) for Ruscoe, C Brown and Tohill.

New 22 would look like this:

FB - Noble, Keane, Maynard
HB - Quaynor, Moore, Murphy
C - Poulter, De Goey, Crisp
HF - Daicos, Kelly, Bianco
FF - McCreery, Cameron, Henry
R - Grundy, Adams, Sier

Int - T Brown, McInnes, Wilson, Macrae, Rantall, Lynch.

Chuck #1 pick Nick Daicos in there somewhere for good measure.

Getting in while these guys are still 26

Plowman McDonald Parks
Williams Weitering Saad
Martin Stocker Fisher
Cuningham Curnow Petrevski-Seton
Owies McKay McGovern

Pittonet Cripps Walsh

Bench from
Silvagni Kennedy Dow De Koning

Honey Durdin Fogarty Kemp Marchbank Williamson Ramsay Durdin Philp Setterfield Gibbons Cottrell Carroll

The only player of note in our 22 not 26 or under is Jones.

This!!
No De Goey (so no forwardline). Sorry Cox..LOL.
No Moore or Howe. So no defence.
I can’t believe I was the only one who tipped Freo in my comp. Was a gimme
Freo missing a few as well - Fyfe, Brennan Cox, Hamling, Young, Hughes - all best 22 players.

Swings and roundabouts.

FB: Cole Barrass Nelson
HB: Witherden HEdwards Rotham
C: O’Neill Kelly Duggan
HF: Ryan Brander Rioli
FF: Petrucelle Allen Waterman
R: Williams Sheed LEdwards

I: Foley Jones Langdon Cameron

Would need a small forward or two to run through the middle with this 22, but not too worried with our midfield depth overall with Trew and Jamieson tracking along nicely in the reserves, while Connor West looks like an absolute beauty.

Yes they were. But a full strength Freo are twice as good as Coll. Pies stink. And without 3 of there only 4 decent players (Pendles played) Freo should have started strong favs IMO

Don't rate doch?

B: Jones - Butts - Doedee
HB: Parnell - McAsey - Milera
C: Sholl - Schoenberg - Cook
HF: McHenry - Thilthorpe - Rowe
FF: Gollant - Fogarty - Murphy
R: O'Brien - Pedlar - Berry
INT: Keays - Hamill - Worrell - Hately.

Would be how it'd roll out at the moment.

FB: Hardwick, DGB, Day
HB: Jiath, Sicily, Scrimshaw
W: Bramble, Worpel, Phillips
HF: Impey, Kosi, Howe
FF: Moore, Lewis, Brockman
Foll: Reeves, Nash, Newcombe
Int: Jeka, Morrison, Cousins, Hanrahan

Squad: Greaves, Maginness, Pepper, Morris, Saunders, Downie, Mitchell, Callow

Backline is set and is elite.
Midfield is starting to come together, it's probably 1 classy ball user short but it's got some Size, Strength and Speed.
Forward line needs work, the KPP look promising but truthfully we only have one lock in Moore.
