This is my main gripe also and besides Fisher everyone else is stagnant, Dow and LOB get a free pass as 1st yr players but we are asking to much of them currently and they have been good.

We just have to many holes on our list and to many recycled players that are just plain rubbish and it is going to take more than the next 2 drafts to fix it.

McKay all but said that we've targeted B graders to fill the list around the kids.

1. Board - as has been previously posted each member is contributing for free and doing a decent job implementing, commiting to and supporting a rebuild and reset - lucky to have a couple of them tbh. Great move to ditch that idjot CEO of Australia Post btw.
2. Coaches - too early to make big calls for all the reasons previously posted ad nauseaum elsewhere - most so called proven coaches want a decent list to start with anyway. Assistant coaches - Barker shoudl find a new home and whoever is running midfield needs a kick up the backside.
3. Players - will take another 3 years minimum to get to ground zero as far as sustainable competitiveness goes - embrace the journey.
4. Other ( you forgot this category): Carlton needs to own its own VFL Club ASAP and Football management needs to be 21st centurised - Macca can go take his 2 weeks BS with him and the whole fitness/physical development regime needs an overhaul/cleanout - if Bolton and SOS don't insist on this fitness dept fix - I would be surprised

1.) The main change we need to make is not to act on past history and throw the baby out with the bath water after 2 to 3 years. (Malthouse was not as bad as people thought).

2.) Bolton must tilt the balance away from teaching towards coaching. That means less theory on Monday and more learning on the job by dragging players on match day who miskick, don't tackle. Skills training with punishment for missing targets. Double for senior players

3.) Bolton needs to be surrounded by *-*- streak. Please employ Brendan Mcartney. Fearless attack on the ball etc.

4.) Medical and recovery needs review. I

5.) The club needs more dynamism in its marketing. Can not become elite by competing for inner melbourne sponsorship Dollar. Align our marketing with our strengths in Australia's education, science and medical hub.

6.) The mantra of we need 24-26 year olds is "pie in the sky stuff". The good ones will not come. Do you really think Wallis, Dalhaus and Guthrie will make a difference? So...the solution is overpay for a Gaff type but don't give up draft picks

7.) President needs to get on the front foot. He has not done a terrible job but I am not sure he embraces the essence of leadership

We could easily replace nearly all of Kerridge Lamb Mullett OShea Graham Rowe Lobb Thomas G-Mac ASOS Wright Shaw this trade/draft period.

Replace them with 4-5 very good ready to play 22-26 year olds and 5-6 talented kids and then it's fairly close
I like your positivity Soapy, but could we really land 5 quality 22-26 this trade period.

It would be fantastic if we could, because I really think this is impacting the development of our kids.

To be honest, I am out of ideas. I'm going to hunker down and watch and hope. I can't believe how bad we are. But the plan I think is still sound - we just have to survive it.

Yep

SOS will take care of recruiting I am sure of that.

Bolton is the man to bring them up and i believe will grow with the kids.

My No.1 focus would be on medical and fitness staff.

Too many injuries, well documented and we are and always have been (last 15 years) too skinny. Every single player, is skinnier and weaker than comparable players in their age/position/height bracket.

Board:
Too many inactive members on the board. President is a mute. Bring in the defibrillator.

Coaching Panel:
Have a lot to answer for. A team that is lazy and unskilled. Development is non-existent.

Players:
Went to training a few weeks ago. They were 'goofing off' almost all session. Maybe hard work on the track will reflect on game day.

Board:
The only things i really want from our board is to 1) pick quality people in terms of list management and coaching department, and 2) drive an agenda of integrity across the company (players and business). Current board gets a pass in this regard.

Coaching panel:
1) Playing first year players too much is an issue for me. They haven't earnt it so the coaching panel is alienating older players even if they are shit. O Brien has earnt it in one game only - the last game. He has been carried in all the rest. I like O Brien so don't get me wrong on him - he is jut getting a free ticket.

2) Think we are playing too tall in both AFL and VFL. I think they are botching all development in the VFL for players, particularly forwards with playing soo many talls. Side gets butchered with no runners. Fwds get no supply to show development.

Having said above, i rate both Silver and Bolton and think this is obvious to them. A correction will come for 2019.

Players:
Absolutely fine with the players. Just need time to develop into 22/23 year olds and wait for the Thomas's, Kerridges, Mulletts, O'sheas, & Grahams to be shipped out.

The only thing killing off a shot at a flag is injuries to Marchbank,Kennedy, Pickett, Byrne, & Docherty. We need better luck with injuries. 3 of those are very injury prone.

1. The Board
Think if they are keeping us operating well and keeping us well staffed then they are doing fine.
Reports suggest things are realistic which is great.
Too many emotionally driven leaders in the past. Out of touch with everything. Chest beating bravado. There is no room for that. We need to have a plan, be analytical calm and stick to our guns. I think emotion needs to be kept out of this and keep things logical and business like which I think is what is happening which is good.
Give us the best staff and practices in the business and they are doing their job.
I've liked appointments to our recruiting staff, I think they have great backgrounds.
If we're the best staffed for long enough then we will become the best.
Keep the cashflow, deals and sponsorship going strong.

Problem is not here.

2. The Coaching Panel
Happy with the coach. Not sure about those under him, I think we need to keep taking opportunities to poach players and coaches from successful clubs. I don't think the coaches have had the opportunity to succeed yet. Lets see what they can do with a good mature list. Footy has never been more of a team game and there is that much for the coaches to organise now in footy you really have to be switched on. Perhaps this is all good, at this point in time our results have nothing to do with the coaching. I think the coaches have done alright in "stemming the bleeding" game style wise.

Problem may not be here though assistants may need reviewing at some point.

3. The Players
Massive lack of ability with our players. Most of them are too young and they haven't developed a harder edge, discipline, strength, size and endurance. This will come but most of them are a few years off. When you invest in draftees, the odd one is a freak and he plays well in the first year or two and in good sides young players fit in a lot better but that's not us. We need to understand that draftees take 3-5 years in general to impact in the AFL.

Players need to work on their efforts. Doing the stuff that's not fun and you don't like doing like chasing, applying pressure, going in hard and being physical. Do what the coaches ask and what the leaders ask.

Lack of leadership. Clubs have raided Hawthorn's leadership and results are showing. Lewis at Melbourne. Mitchell at West Coast. Hodge at Brisbane. For 20 years we have lacked leadership and it's a big part why good coaches fail at Carlton and why players develop poorly and why we keep ending up with lists with talent but they are soft and lazy and ill disciplined on and off the field. We could do no worse than to go out and pick up a specialist leader. I'd be looking at McVeigh from Sydney. GWS are a prime example of what happens to a club that has all the talent but develops without leadership. Strong and demanding leaders are what we need.

Our players need to keep playing games and being pushed in the right direction by those around them. Train hard and develop their bodies and fitness.

Time and games are the man thing. 50-100 games in these players and we will see results. Replace the older, clapped out and the club rejects with younger more talented players and we will see results.

We need to find 3 gun midfielders and 3 gun forwards by 2020 or 2021. Most with pace. That's the equation, that's how and when Carlton become the side we want them to be.

Not the first time this has been noted …...

Board - no issues , they have given SOS & Bolts the space they need.

Coach / Development - huge issues !! Example Weitering has gone backwards every year. I think our game plan is 1960s , go back and take your kick. Where is the run !!

Players - Cripps , Curnows x2 big ticks. Fisher ok ish , Simpson gives his all but it falls away from here. A bunch of high draft picks that may or may not make it !! Sorry Kreuzer but Phillips needs to 1st ruck. Get back Docherty , Marchbank , Pickett.

Please go after Wines , Gaff and / or Shiel !!

Board - Reckon we are moving in the right direction with our approach to appointing the right football people. As long as the board sets the direction then gives the football department room to do their job, they can stay. The only time they interfere in football related matters is when there is governance issues or the football department is not acting according to our set principles.

My concern are the football related staff that have been there since before our new approach to appointments was implemented. Looking particularly at John Barker and Andrew McKay, along with the medical staff.

Anyone who has not been appointed since Bolton took over as coach needs to have their position reviewed as though they were going through a job interview. Need to make sure they are the best we can get, not simply there because they always have been and we are too lazy to check what else is available.

Finally we are too far behind other clubs for innovation and fan engagement. Hoping Liddle can steer us in the right direction. People love our club, hope the club makes it easier for that to be conveyed. Fan interaction with the club is critical for financial success and the ability of the club to remain a relevant powerhouse of the game.

Coaching Panel - Happy with Bolton and the general direction of the list. Need to ensure we have the best assistants available to ensure we can develop the list better than we have in many years. Also a former (preferably successful) senior coach as an assistant would be handy to pick up on anything Bolts is missing. As long as they can leave their ego at the door and not undermine him, they can be the voice of reason and maybe have different ways of getting the message across to those that need more one on one attention that a senior coach doesn't always have the time to help.

Players - Happy with the recent draftees and most of the trades. Part of the problem was trying to find quality experience, we have had to take what we could get to some degree. Massive list changes will take time to settle, we are on track to build that critical mass of good kids. We need to keep more of them on the park, hence the need to critically review the medical department. The older players that are not up to standard are still providing some value, they will be moved on as the current kids overtake them.

Need to spend time and money sorting out the Northern Blues set up. A strong second level team is critical for success and we have been appalling in this area for too long. If the club needs to bite the bullet and go it alone, happy if we spend the money. Very hard to develop AFL ready players if the support and structure is not there at the beginning level.

Any players not working outside the club should be involved in the community/schools for a set number of hours each week. They need to understand there is more to life than football and they also need to stay in touch with the real world. Sitting at home when not at training or playing is not healthy and does not give them any life skills for their post-footy years.

We are doing plenty of good things, still room for much improvement.

Board: I think we are going in the right direction here as we are taking more contemporary approaches to appointments etc. Still needs to be reviewed and we still have some dinosaurs in the park.

Coaching: Happy with Bolts, Teague and Bruce. I believe we are heading in the right direction and looking to find very good assistants. Would be very interested to know if we would look at finding coaches for individuals. Not all players will respond to a coach, so finding which coach / player combinations work and exploring positional changes or to simply convey the message.

Players: We are growing the talent, they are getting the games into our youth and we are carrying players who are injured (physically / mentally) into games. Our list is improving, talent wise and more will be moved on this offseason. We need more mobility, physically and vision. I would like our players to shepard or block more for each other rather than look for the hand off.

Totally review the medical / fitness section. We can not keep having seasons where we have large numbers of players injured. A more wholistic approach to injury management that encompasses not only the injury but the areas around that injury (the foot bone is connected to the leg bone, the leg bone is connected to the hip bone etc)

Too many inactive members on the board. President is a mute. Bring in the defibrillator.

I guess There is a very fine line between having fun making it a good club to be around and working hard at training to getting better, even the senior players should aim to get a little bit better.

I want more angry bolts, I’m bored of happy bolts. I want 70 percent angry and 30 percent happy

So 50 percent ho hum
