Brad Hill journey. He's going to have to turn down a lot of money to stay at this stage right? Someone will get close to $2m a year the way he's playing. Ironically, having possibly 3 bags under the belt makes it almost harder to turn down like 800k a year.
Early dynasty into early retirement money is the dream career

As is the case with most footy "journalists" they are nincompoops and Mitch Cleary is an elite level nincompoop.
As much chance of Dan Curtin playing with the Lions as Logan Morris is of playing with the Crows.
Mitch Cleary is an attention seeking w***er. There is zero chance crows would entertain a Curtain trade and he is contracted till 2029. 2nd Brisbane have to have the cap space to be able to match and they have already said they wont make him the highest paid player at the club. This is the whole point of free agency compo, the better you are the less compensation you get. sucks but you rather be in brisbanes situationI still don't get the Brisbane matching theory. If Brisbane can offer close or the same doesn't he just stay? My understanding is he is only leaving for alot more money
It's not a Butters situation where he is leaving to live elsewhere and Port have the money.

It's irrelevant if we have the money in the cap, they either will offer him that money or they wont, this matching the bid stuff is absolute non sense, theres no example of anyone paying more than what they offered to "match a bid"We have the money in the cap to match Adelaide; we just don’t want to spend that much on one player; the risk is we match and he then turns around and agrees to stay on that amount
exactly this, the matching the bid stuff just gets thrown around willy nilly, its literally not logical absolute nonsense, a club can only match the bid if they want to pay the player that in the first place, just saying we will match the bid after offering 300k less is absolutely illogical BSI still don't get the Brisbane matching theory. From the sounds.of it, its.either Brisbane or Adelaide.
This is the problem when you have a strong team and a number of young players who are going to demand top coin in the near future, one or two will fall out the back. In hindsight Im sure they wouldnt have taken Allen as a FA and given the money to Bailey.
Especially compared to the mid/forwards where we are struggling to give them all game time at the momentLions are on record as saying we wouldn’t have given ZB 1.7 or whatever crazy number the Crom will pay.
We are in a win now window and would be rolling out a 20yr old and 19yr old as our kpfs. We also would have run out of kpps as we have 4 or so best 23 kpps injured.
Allen was a no brainer.

What makes it all much easier under those circumstances is premierships. Its much easier to be magnanamous with multiple flags under your belt if you need to let a player go. Not perfect but its not such a sour tasteFrom the sounds.of it, its.either Brisbane or Adelaide.

Errr Duhhhhh Da Lionsss coulda given Allen's $900k pa contract to ZB and kept hiMmmmm!!!!!!
What do people think would happen if we give XB $1.7m?
Harris Andrews, Will Ashcroft, McCluggage presumably will go "wow Zac, you definitely deserve to be paid $500k per year more than us, we won't ask to renegotiate our contracts!"
Another St.Kilda list management masterstroke![]()
AFL 2026: Mattaes Phillipou contract St Kilda extension million dollars a year
“My understanding is that extension is around a million dollars a year.”sportnation.nz

Does any player at Brisbane think Allen is worth 900k? There would be plenty of better performed players on less than that at the Lions who could be thinking the same thing. Rarely do players count other players money.Errr Duhhhhh Da Lionsss coulda given Allen's $900k pa contract to ZB and kept hiMmmmm!!!!!!

$10M over 7 years so $1.4M. You need to overpay for FA so it doesn't cost the club any trade capital. That's the point of FA and what the AFLPA want, you guys did this with Allen and Draper last year. If Brisbane match then Bailey will stay, the only players who was matched and then there was a trade were Dangerfield and Cameron. Baily is an A grader but not elite like those 2.Lions are on record as saying we wouldn’t have given ZB 1.7 or whatever crazy number the Crom will pay.

Wouldnt surprise me if its more than $1.5mil$10M over 7 years so $1.4M. You need to overpay for FA so it doesn't cost the club any trade capital. The devil is in the detail with the Cameron trade and Bailey is a very good player but hardly comparable to Cameron. If he didn't want to leave then he could have accepted the match and stayed. If Brisbane match then Bailey will stay, there will be no trade as he has stated his preference is to stay.GWS matched and forced Geelong into a trade for Cameron and got three 1st rd picks as a result (and Cameron wasn't desperate to leave GWS). Precedent for both avenues.
If Bailey goes, the options are to loose him for pick 20 odd via free agency or loose him via trade for a couple of first round picks... pretty obvious what Brisbane will be fighting tooth an nail to ensure happens.
