Holy crapballs (as my nine-year old says)! We're up to our necks in it this year, aren't we? Our golden age was defined by sound drafting and development. Perhaps us embracing the FA/trading era could yet bring the biggest windfall...

Call me an eternal optimist; hell - call me delusional for all I care - if we manage to pull of the biggest trading coup in a single AFL season, AND we have some luck re form/injuries with said recruitments to the point that our ruck stocks and key backs are replenished for the next six or seven years, we could bloody well go all the way - starting from NEXT year!

Boy oh boy, wowee!

BULLISH Lions coach Justin Leppitsch declared the addition of premiership talents Dayne Beams and Allen Christensen had delivered Brisbane a midfield capable of playing finals, not just next season, but for years to come.

Agree. Next year is looking very exciting if we can pull all these trades off.

Very lucky we are up at the right time to take advantage of FA. Player movement is going to only become freer and you'll find that the big teams will only get bigger.

Brisbane have a midfield and nothing else. I think we are bit better placed.

No near convinced this a good signing but will give him time to show what he can do in the hoops.

Like your optimism but even with all our trade period gets we still have zero forward line pressure, very little speed off half back, and are tactically genuinely light years behind the best few in the comp. We're nowhere near a flag perhaps with the rise of Cocky and a few others we might be in a few years.

It was in 2010, Selwood got it because Ablett was looked over in games he shouldn't have been.
And Adelaide stripped Gunston of his award. Wouldn't have been surprised had they done the same to Dangerfield last month. Glad they didn't though.

Particularly Dangerfield yes, but im not sold on the rest yet. And I think the game has moved way beyond the 'one player can make us great' notion.
Yep of course one player can't change everything, but 4 players in the right age bracket/stronger bodies/more experienced- 3 of them into the area where all our problems start-one who is very good, the others are good players who just have to do their part. Add that to more games in the kids, a fit Duncan.
Comon Partidge-you are getting excited!

P and Biggy together in tandem always spells disaster. Strong recommendation that the Vardy, Menzel and Cowan continued injury nonsense goes to the same old arguments thread. It has been discussed ad nauseam.

Understand your cynicism. Everyone here would have felt it after 2006? Rnd 6 2007? This club is capable of a quantum leap. They have form for it.

you needed to trust my mail - the strike rate is astonishing good

So you don't rate Lang and Gregson's forward pressure? Don't think Lloyd will add anything to the coaches box?

C'mon Blighty'sCats. We still have Enright, Mackie, Bews and Thurlow running off half back with a couple of half decent bigs too. 4 in fact with Taylor, Lonergan, Kolo and Henderson if we get him. In terms of forward pressure, if we get Dangerfield and S.Selwood, then J Selwood and Danger will both spend more time forward, just adding to our forward pressure. I would have thought Lang and Gregson showed some forward pressure too. Add Clark and the two other monsters in Vardy and Stanley operating up forward in rest periods from ruck, and Blizavs solely on the ball putting pressure on there better ball handlers, with Murdoch and Motlop on the outside, you have to be delusional to think we wont be fast enough or pressuring enough to compete with the best.
A squad like Backs Kolo, Henderson, Taylor, Lonergan, Mackie, Enright, Bews, Thurlow
Mids Selwood, Dangerfield, S.Selwood, Guthrie, Duncan, Caddy, Motlop, Blizavs, Bartel
FWDS Hawkins, Clark, Stanley, Vardy, Menzel, Murdoch, McCarthy, Lang, Gregson,
Ruck options Smith, Stanley, Clark, Vardy
Extras: Smedts, Cockatoo, Gore, Cowan, Horlin-Smith, Kersten, Bates, Cunico, Delaney and any further draft picks. Not a bad looking depth for finals footy I'd suggest.
More optimism from the masses please, top hat or no top hat.

I can see why you would have your doubts but aren't you a little excited?

For me, finals is a pass. Then push for 2017 and beyond.

I'm genuinely excited. 2006 was an unbelievable disaster. No one saw 2007 happening.

A year is a long time in footy
