2014 Membership Tally - Final Tally - *47,557

Thanks to Chism and Thylacine60 for directing me to this thread! Much appreciated! A number of arguments in this thread explaining our poor membership level (club disconnect with fans, scheduling; Etihad as home ground; interstate members, on field (lack of) performance, etc) are certainly valid but can also be applied to other teams as well (thereby - to some extent - balancing out the effect). The reality is we lag SIGNIFICANTLY behind the other 4 BIG Melbourne clubs!!:

72,170 Collingwood
66,169 Hawthorn
63,939 Richmond
57,516 Essendon
46,327 Carlton
These figures include non-access memberships. We were fourth for access memberships sold last year. Ahead of Essendon who presumably sell more non-match day memberships. They can cost as little as $50 or $55 for Australian residents. Carlton's costs $95. They're doing something right if we make more revenue from memberships.

Etihad appears to hurt Carlton and Essendon who had just 44.000 and 43,000 access memberships last year. Both should be up there with the other MCG tenants.

Presumably the extra cost of non-access membership is benchmarked against other clubs, and still found justifiable.

Presumably they aren't pricing high just to appear more exclusive.

A_McKay thanks for your valuable and relevant comments. I haven't had time to go back through this thread but is there a reason Carlton doesn't sell non-access memberships? Is it an example of Carlton being behind the times?

We do sell non-access memberships. They're terrible value for money. $95 for a fleece blanket and the usual trimmings.

The interstate isn't much better.

Hey, you don't live in Victoria! This is a membership that will grant you 3 or 5 games to a home game in Victoria. Pretty helpful hey...

Other clubs interstate memberships get them into games in their designated state. Why is it we can't do that? Pretty basic I would have thought.

The problem here in WA is that there are 3000+ carlton members and the Eagles and Dockers only release 500 tickets to the away team, the way Port and the Crows are going I imagine it will be similar in SA.

Yeah that's an issue. Sydney definitely doesn't have that issue. It annoys me that I have to pay for the two games in Sydney this year despite the fact I'm already paying for a membership that's really of no value to me.

I'm a long time interstate Blues member. As I don't get to Melbourne very often I'm happy with what it offers (only beef is that it membership pack slow to arrive - my son is a Doggies member and gets his membership pack ahead of me).

They're essentially useless though. Paying $150 odd for a scarf basically.

I sign up on principle but I can definitely understand why others don't.

It's going to be built at the Burswood complex isn't it?
Yeah they have started the ground work but because it is built on a old tip and wetlands so it needs quite a bit of prep work.

James Packer and Crown Perth will be laughing all the way to the bank with a government built stadium plonked next to his casino and hotel complex.

What's the latest finish date? The pr suggested 2017.

I thought it was 2018 but I am not holding my breath.

I think it will be a 60k seater but with the dockers and eagles already having large waiting lists for memberships then I would have thought a 70k seater would be the best way to go.

West Coast are looking at moving their HQ and training base to Lathlain park home of the Perth Demons in the WAFL.
