Cats push for big Victorian club at KP

bloody stupid. lets sacrifice revenue for the game so they can get somewhat of an advantage

yet we couldnt play there or anywhere else even if we asked

They're not sacrificing revenue though...

how so?

given revenue sharing now, fixturing and stadia return is in the interest of all clubs

Stats are in here. Geelong don't make any money from Etihad games, they actually lose it. they make around 800k from a game at KP.

Etihad clubs forget that stadium needs to make a profit

Geelong played there [Etihad] twice in 2012 and cleared $11 per head from an average crowd of 44,000.

In the same year, the Cats made $12 a head from two home games at the MCG from an average crowd of 65,000, which seems to support Sergeant’s claim. The discrepancy appears to stem from the make-up of attendances. Two-thirds of average Etihad crowds are club members, who do not contribute to the gate takings. With one in three being paying customers, returns diminish when tenant clubs play low-drawing non-Victorian clubs.

It’s another story that Geelong can make a cop of $36 a head from their home games at Simonds Stadium.

whats the end profit of a 60k game at the MCG versus a 25K at skilled?
12 bucks per head at the G = 78,0000
36 bucks per head at Skilled = 90,0000

Very rough guess using figures above from 2012.

But even then if you are expecting 60k at the MCG, the Kardina crowd would be up to around 31k

So based on that you would see at Kardia game make around 1,116,000 based on those figures.

They are sacrificing revenue, but revenue is only one part of the equation. /CaptainPedantic

50,000 people at Etihad Stadium or the MCG is great, but the cost base is a lot higher and the crowd make-up (ground members, AFL members etc.) limits the match day revenue anyway.

20-30k @ KP is money for jam. It's like Subiaco except with lower revenues and much lower costs.

Capacity?
Simonds Stadium 33,500
Metricon Stadium (Gold Coast) 25,000
Spotless Stadium (GWS) 25,000
Aurora Stadium (Launceston) 21,000
Blundstone Arena (Hobart) 16,200
Marrara Stadium (Darwin) 15,000
Manuka Oval (Canberra) 13, 550
Cazaly's Stadium (Cairns) 12,000
Traeger Park (Alice Springs) 10,000

Next bullshit arguement?

This isn't a proper stadium?

Its capacity is less than Kardina Park yet it was recognised as the world's most iconic and cultrually significant new stadium in the world. I guess someone forgot to tell them proper stadiums hold 50k or more.
