Have been told K/Park will loose most of their committe and have not a lot of interest by their members replacing them. Some cash issues add this to their lack of juniors spells some tough times. Hope they do well as they are a good club and we all need get behind them.

Thought this would happen eventually due to their lack of juniors/bad location

This is the fault of the EDFL who let their neighbours Keilor who are no more than 5 minutes away have 4 teams per age group, while Keilor Park struggle to field 1 team. Until the EDFL starts doing the right thing ALL of THEIR clubs, this gap between the have's and the have not's will continue.

You turn kids away from a club they may not play at all... Kids want to play with their mates.

Also it shouldn't be up to the league to funnel players to struggling clubs... It's up to the clubs to make themselves an attractive option to parents looking for a club for their kids

Agree with this.
There are much better ways to do it that would still ensure kids are playing with school mates.

The league sits around and lets clubs like Keilor Park die slowly while up the road at Keilor, they are ready to pounce on the Keilor Park facility and take the place over. You say that the EDFL shouldn't be funneling players; under the current arrangement, allowing clubs to be as big as they want while neighbouring clubs die is inexcusable. The EDFL have a responsibility to HELP clubs. This is not about funneling players. Look at the facts. Aberfeldie, Keilor, Strathmore, Greenvale only retain 50% of their under 16's. This is a deplorable retention rate and these big clubs don't care as it is usually the players with less ability that drop off after under 16's and after the clubs collecting their membership dollars for 8 years in the juniors. If the league controls where players go when they are at under 10's level, these under 10's players will remain at their club and most will play under 18's and remain at their clubs as there will be more opportunities. The EDFL is franatically trying to get the 25th and 26th club into the EDFL, while some of their own traditional clubs are struggling. It's like; the AFL letting the Kangaroos die while they try to get a new club in the league. It doesn't happen. The AFL have an assistance plan to help clubs struggling. Keilor Park had 2 under 10's this year for the first time in years. The league needs to help them as they continue to rebuild. Restrict to number of teams that clubs can have at junior level and the kids WILL go to neighbouring clubs. They will make mates as 8 and 9 year olds and they will want to play with and stay at their club.

I'm not advocating letting traditional edfl clubs die... But the edfl capping other clubs numbers so kids hopefully go to the club down the road where they may not have any mates. It also doesn't teach those clubs anything about being responsible for their juniors... Marby and hadfield have been able to reinvigorate their juniors no reason keilor park can't.

Haddy are just about to start reaping the rewards of their improved junior programs after their 18's have made the GF the past three years... Have also won numerous junior flags the last few years

Also remember a jacana player saying to me the edfl should give them cash to help them be competitive... Haddy northern saints and east keilor have been able to get off rock bottom... It can be done need the club to be an attractive prospect though to encourage players to join whether that be good blokes at the club or good facilities or family t the club or whatever

The EDFL restrict clubs to 4 junior teams at each level. Therefore they already limit numbers. Only problem is they don't limit clubs enough. Why not make it 3 teams at each level. No different to when schools have a sealing to how many kids they can take in enrolments. When schools are full, the parents take the kids to the next school up the street. The kid settles in at the new school and wouldn't think of being anywhere else. Clubs are the same. The reality is, if nothing is done, traditional clubs will die. Look at A Grade seniors. The top clubs, Keilor, Abers, Greenvale, Strathmore, Marby all have huge juniors. A bit like premiers league in English soccer with Man U and Liverpool and Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal the only clubs up top EVERY YEAR. Look at results in Div 1 and Div3 juniors, That is 8 grand finals with 16 teams competing. 3 clubs take up 14 of these spots. Wake up EDFL! Start to manage the league to make it more competitive and interesting. Parent look at results and when they see Keilor or Abers playing in all of the finals, they then make the decision to also go to that club as they measure the club as "successful". The big clubs get bigger and the small clubs die. If the AFL didn't manage the AFL with salary cap, national draft, pre-season draft, club equalisation plans, payment assistance etc. Collingwood and Carlton would win every year. The EDFL must start to manage the league and equalize and make it more competitive.

Well said Front and Square you got it exactly right.Half the junior list at Keilor live outside the suburb and play there because they believe there is more chance of playing in a premiership. The EDFL do have to start restricting team no.s per club and the other thing they can do is grade all junior teams seperately and not by club, this would ensure each team has the chance to play finals making some of the smaller clubs a more attractive option.

This might be a great idea for teams within a certain proximity, but now with Sunbury Lions juniors coming in, restricting their teams would move players back to the RDFL not a neighboring EDFL club.

Having TEAM rather that CLUB grading will change the fact that juniors will not play same team on any given day. The trade off would be if you grade the team you would be to be split up and travel to segeragrated grounds. Not good if you have players especially siblings in seperate grades as you have to travel to watch them. So many familys are single parent and this would be hard for mum or dad to watch all games without the car rally to another ground. I am all for change but we need to be sure of ALL the pros and cons before we get carried away. A intake cap per year at U-10s of say 3 teams ONLY with 80 players total. If you have 60 players retained in U-10s then you can only register another 20 players U-10s SIMPLE. This would only mean the big intake clubs would take players on based on ability alone. At least the PLAYERS LEFT OVER could go to the next club that has no full list.

Spot on! Keep the junior teams together so that families aren't segregated. Just limit registration numbers that each club can have at each age group as you say. How come is seams so simple yet the EDFL are incapable of being proactive, leaders, etc on this?. Chasing clubs from outside to grow the league is one thing, but they MUST help smaller clubs like Jacana and Keilor Park etc first. They deserve to be looked after more than an outside club. They are part of the EDFL and should have more rights to protection than outside clubs that haven't contributed to the league and making it what it is today.

Thanks for the feedback,
The EDFL bend to the bigger clubs as they are well represented and are entwined in the running of the EDFL. Rules committes, Pro bono work all to help the EDFL and in turn sway the board decission their way. This has been happening for years thats why and no other reason. How about having some EDFL board members that have actually run a club recently or even at all. Making decissions based on old outdated values. The clubs also are to blaim for not pushing these matters as a group and try to act for their club only. Divide and conquor is the EDFL way until this changes then the issues will remain as they are.
Remeber what Jerry Seinfeld said "It is not a lie if you truly beleve it is not"

APW with some big moves... Sydenham sign Alan Ezard as senior coach

Now Airport West have Adam Contessa and Sydenham have Alan Ezard oppointed as coaches for 2012 could anybody provide a list of A & B grade confirmed coaches for 2012? Are there any clubs without a coach at this point?

Just a reply in regards to Keilor Park, all these rumours are nonsense.

Every position on the committee has been filled bar the presidency. An AGM will be held next week to confirm this. MOST players have already signed on for next year. KP have never been a rich club, the money situation is no different from any other year. Yes the juniors have struggled for numbers in previous seasons but is slowly improving with the great work by the junior committee.

Just thought i would get things straight as SOME people may be interested.
