Does someone want to start this off by posting the fixture (eg venues, times etc). Maybe the playing lists also?

Good idea.

The SA squad of 25 I think was published in the advertiser today and I must say its a powerful squad. Here they are:

(Sturt)
Angus Monfries
Ben Eckermann
Marty Wilson
Adam Thompson
Danyle Pearce
Benet Copping
James Mcleay
Matthew Brockhouse

(Glenelg)
Daniel Meyer
Brad Sugars

(South)
Lee Saunders
Ryan Griffen (c)

(West)
Jordan Russell
Henry Slattery
Cameron Wood
Adam Hartlett

(Norwood)
Nick Batchelor
Heath Grundy (Vc)
Chad Gibson

(North)
Toby Stribling

(Port)
Craig Taylor
Kyle Jenner

(Eagles)
Nick Salter
Scott McMahon

(Central)
Shannon Hurn

Pretty damn good list there, ones to watch out for (most of them really but the key ones are:

Angus Monfries - Skilful midfielder, pretty quick, gets a fair bit of the ball and kicks goals from the midfield.

Ben Eckermann - True rover type, sorta like a Byron Schammer he is too young for the draft this year but is a pretty good player.

Danyle Pearce - This guy is a freak, only just saw him recently when he played some SANFL and he got 22 touches and 2 goals, quick aboriginal midfeilder, kicks the odd goal, cross between Mcleod and S.Burgoyrne sorta. One to watch.

James Mcleay - Strong marking CHF, currently playing CHB for Sturt in the SANFL atm to cover for the injured Troy Chaplin. Is def a better forward strong mark kicks goals.

Daniel Meyer - Havent seen him play as of yet but is supposed to be pretty good.

Ryan Griffen - Likely top 5 draft oick this year, running half back flanker, got some height reminds me of a young Nigel Smart/Peter Dean type. Captain this year too.

Cameron Wood - Beanpole ruckman, gets heaps of hitouts, ok around the ground not the greatest but has a tonne of potential.

Adam Hartlett - Full forward strong body good mark and kick.

Heath Grundy - Solid kid has played the entire season for Norwood in the SANFL at full back, good solid honest defender.

Shannon Hurn - Machine. This guy is gunna be good is inelibible for the draft but is tossing up between cricket and football. Already signed as a rookie with the redbacks he could well be a top 3 next year if he plays footy. Solid strong half back marshalling the defence at his own accord. Gun.

Things have certainly turned around 100% if the Sturt zone is now the major source of SA talent.

Copied from footyman's thread, the fixture.

Thanks Thunderstruck, was looking forward to seeing the final 25. Reckon you have nailed the players to watch. Griffen impressed me last year, and McLeay, Meyer and Monfries look good to me. Nick Salter looked OK on a HFF in one of the games I saw. Haven't seen Wood but he could be the key.

I reckon SA might cause a surprise and win it this year- I think they have a very good squad with a good mix of talls and smalls and some genuine pace.

Wont happen sorry, its out of VIC C and VIC M like most years and as usual i think that VIC M will come out and win although they lack a abundance of talls.
Plus they have the Calder boys, the Calder side at full strength would no doubt beat WA,SA and VIC C them selves lol.

cheers

VIC M and VIC C are always strong at under 18 level no doubting that but this is the side that came runner up to WA in the under 16's last year, well most of them anwyays, and it is def better than our side last year that had Cooney, Waters and Symes etc in it. Very strong side, I expect them to make the final even if they dont win it they are too good not too.

Good luck to all the young fellas from every state, hope they can show the talents they all have and get drafted later in the year :) it certainly is the auditioning stage for their careers.

Players to watch
These are the absolute guns of each side, of course there are no guarantees these guys will be the best players, and plenty of others will step up and make their mark.

Vic Metro
Metro's side doesn't look as powerful as in recent years. I have queries over their key defenders and lack of pace in the midfield. However, they are usually the best organised of the 4 sides.

Fabian Deluca - 27 Jan 87, 201cm, 96kg - Brother of Adrian, tall mobile ruckman who can also go forward. Will probably be a first round selection, has a lot of scope for improvement.

Ben Sharp - 10 Jul 86, 187cm, 81kg - Classy onballer who wins a truckload of footy and has excellent disposal, particularly by hand.

Matt Little - 3 Jan 86, 183cm, 79kg - Small full forward who is the leading goalkicker in the TAC. Incredibly sticky hands and a wonderful shot for goal

I think that these three plus Cloke Jolly Moore and Nayna will be the Catalyst for Metro

Do you mean the player profiles? Yep, maybe not as many, but I'll have info on any players on the fringe that are picked up.

However, I probably won't do them until November after trade week.

I'm sure plenty of people will be covering the Nationals, so I'll only be saying briefly who I thought played well.

Jordan SMITH 2/4/86 181 77
I'd be surprised if Jordan was that tall. Don't read too much into the height/weight measurements as they are often inflated to appeal more attractive to recruiters.

Good call dasler, I reckon he'd struggle to make 177.
Whilst I don't agree that they are often inflated for the reason stated they are invariably wrong and taller rather than shorter.
The bottom line is, certainly from my experience with the WA sides, that they should all be accurate as each player is measured and weighed as part of the program.

I attended the NSW v NT game at Port Melbourne before heading to the MCG.

The game itself was a cracker, with NSW leading all day before two great goals from Aaron Motlop (brother of Daniel) put the NT in front. However, NSW fought back and James Bennett snapped the winner with less than a minute to go.

Not sure of the other result yet, will post it when I find out.

For NSW ruckman Earl Shaw was very good, whilst burly centreman Ed Clarke also starred. Others to impress were Murray CHF Adam Prior with 3 goals, and James Bennett, who kicked 2.

For the NT hot prospect Richard Tambling showed glimpses of his enormous talent without ever tearing hte game apart. He was still pretty good though. Harold Calma had a very good game and Mark McLean showed some silky skills.

Thanks GH.

Can't believe how slack the AFL is with no results posted as yet.

I see your afternoon was worse than mine but not by much. Least that PP is looking good still. You might Deledio and Franklin at this rate.;)

Ed Clarke not in NSW best????? Do me a favour.

And Stapleton couldn't possibly turn the ball over, miss kick it or fumble it more consistantly if he meant to. I'm sure the kid goes okay but not today. Getting it 20 times and giving it away 17 is not good footy IMHO.
