Good that the club identified we needed a big competitive ruckman in Flynn but on the same token, wouldn’t it have been wise to get another one as backup given Flynn’s injury history?

That would have meant 2 genuine ruckman, Bailey Williams and Barnett developing. 4 in total on the list which seems reasonable.

Hoping Rawlinson proves me wrong but that last spot would have been handy for an SSP.

Next couple of weeks looking good for a few of the lads. Hewett having surgery in Melbourne this week

Injury list

Oscar Allen Knee 8-10 weeks

Rhett Bazzo Groin 6-8 weeks

Jai Culley Knee 1 week

Matt Flynn Knee 6-8 weeks

Elijah Hewett Foot Post-bye

Archer Reid Knee 3-4 weeks

Liam Ryan Hamstring 2-3 weeks

Dom Sheed Foot 1-2 weeks
Archer Reid only 3 to 4 weeks away has me excited.

Yeah more likely 2 weeks and Sheed is back in.
I see this happening as well. As much as I've enjoyed NOT watching Sheed blindly kick it forward this season, he'll still provide respite for our midfielders. But he absolutely MUST play WAFL first. Make him hungry.

I vaguely recall Simmo saying he'd get some WAFL games when he returns, just before the season started.

Wonder how long they gave the ballet rehab? 2 weeks?
Would be almost 2 months, he saw the specialist at the end of Jan.
They would have provided timeframes and markers for when things should be improving if the rehab was working.
I suspect they didn't get those indications during the rehab which is why it seems like a quick switch to surgery.

Wonder how long they gave the ballet rehab? 2 weeks?

It was January 31 when his sesamoiditis was revealed and that he was going to seek the assistance of the ballet specialist which he did shortly after

It was a week ago (19/3) the club said he was having surgery as one foot hadn’t responded as they’d hoped

So about 6 weeks

I actually think a fully fit Sheed adds to a team but I actually wouldn’t mind seeing him earn his way into the team from the start instead of coasting for a couple weeks and then get put on the burner for lack of form.

Sheed needs to get mentally fit.

Only way that happens is when all you WA mob stop buying beers for him, slapping him on the back and bringing up 'that kick' in 2018.;)

Need to start buying him soda water and asking when he thinks he will be fit to play.

Culley needs to take it slow. Dodee just reinjured his ACL at the Lions.

They have the premiership window clock counting down, we dont.

That’s a real shame for Doedee to partially tear his ACL when he was on the cusp of returning

Should be noted that he did his ACL last year in R12 which is a full month after Culley did his and he returned to playing (in the VFL) a week or two ago. So he’s come back nearly two months sooner in his rehabilitation than Culley is planning on

I don’t know how much work Doedee did so can’t comment on him but I’ve seen Culley at training since late November. He was fully running before Christmas, was doing lateral movement in early January (maybe earlier) and was fully included in all skill sessions excluding contact work in February

He’s been participating in match sim for at least 3-4 weeks and has been doing additional work before and after each session that I’ve watched

They’ve definitely held him back as he’s looked ready to play for a while now to my untrained eye. With Doedee’s setback I can understand why

Be a big moment for him next week if he does get the all clear to play WAFL and I expect he’ll be on managed minutes when he does as they ease him in

Total medical negligence rushing a player back 9 months after an ACL knowing what we know about ACL rehab. I can only hope that Doedee was told the precise rerupture risk numbers going back that early and definitively said he wanted to risk it. Even in this scenario I would have hoped the medical staff would have saved him from himself. Despite the media reporting a “partial tear” I expect him to have another full ACL reconstruction and miss another 12 months.

The thing about ACL’s is the graft itself can be vulnerable to re-rupturing in the first 12 months after re-construction until it settles.

That was the big talking point in 2019 with Rance eventually abandoning his comeback attempt after rupturing it in 6 months.

Shame about Doedee, but watching Culley come back and build fitness and strength before matches is encouraging. Seeing Nic go down for a second time was horrible, and for those who have long memories, watching Brad Smith go down twice and not end up even playing 1 AFL game was heartbreaking for me. Lets not do it again
