That's not true, Brown is regularly the premier Goal Square Gorilla shut down specialist, he never gets high possessions so the Supercoach crowd think he is bombing when in fact he's just Prestying the best forwards in the land

Brown is very underrated on this board. He is still our best key defender (assuming Reid as a forward)

There are very few teams who don't have a better tall defender than Brown.

Please name those sides?
Don't include poor one on one defenders who only provide good rebound. Teams need both stoppers and players who can provide the rebound

I can only think of the saints and the bulldogs as teams without a KPD better than Brown

I will agree to disagree. I think he would be up there in the top 5 - 10 best key stoppers. It is very hard to find statistics to back my school of thought.

What has Brown done wrong apart from 2 games last year. Think Roughead the Coleman medalist only managed 2 goals on him last year in 2 games (one of his goals came from a rucking free kick) so yeah he is s**t.

It is not you just look at the fact that apart from Cameron and Tippet no KPF kicked a bag last year against the Pies. Apart from Buddy who played on Heath Shaw

I'm saying Brown is a solid player, some rate him too highly imo. Never said he was s**t or that he doesn't play good games sometimes.

You said that there are only 2 clubs in the comp with a better key back then him. Who is better at Carlton? Richmond? Brisbane? Hawthron? North? Port Adealide? He is a consistent performer who does not get meany goals kicked on him what more do you need from a full back. No good having guys like Thompson and Rance that just leak goals but run up the field and get the ball as a defender defending first is what is important then comes attacking after that. No good just attacking.

Sorry but what do you mean by 'vanilla'?
I've never heard of it before lol

The term?

or Flavour?

Personally I love the flavour and am not sure why it used to describe a plain or non stand out player.

Ie a Vanilla mid has not stand out attributes find hundreds of them at VFL level just consistent performers but don't have the ability to break a game open or swing momentum for a team.
Having the odd vanilla mid is ok but too many and you run into trouble imo.

I don't see what he'd bring over Lumumba and Young, let alone our younger players who will start to demand games in similar positions (Seedsman, Freeman, etc). Decent depth I guess, but he's not going to leave WCE to play in the VFL.

(And before Lynch gets brought up, we recruited to have him play AFL until we realised he was cooked.)

He still is a better one on one defender than Reid

Isn't Vanilla the flavour of plain ice-cream?

Rosa wouldn't be high on my list.

We have a lot of young players coming through. Like mentioned a over re: Lake at the Hawks, unless we get a certain best 18 who strengthens our team or fills a glaring need then there is no real reason to chase players from other clubs at risk of stifling our own player development or eating into our salary cap.

Is there such a thing as "plain" ice cream?

Vanilla is much underrated, except when it comes to rap music.

Just read an interesting article on the AFL website discussing Geelongs loss to Port Adelaide, they highlighted the fact Geelong had 7 players under the age of 23 playing tonight and their lack of experience. Which got me thinking, I wonder how many we have playing at the moment.

By my calculations we also have 7 which just goes to show the strength of our young list and where we are headed in very exciting.

Langdon
Frost
Witts
Grundy
Thomas
Fasalo
Elliot

I'm a bit concerned about our height dynamic on the list. I know we tried to resolve it with Scharenberg and Karnezis...but we clearly have too many sub 182cm players. I don't think we can have more than half of these guys in our top 22.

Therefore, which ones go or could be traded??

Adams
Kennedy
Blair
Sinclair
Elliott
Sidebottom
Marley Williams
Josh Thomas
Fasolo
Dwyer
Marty Clarke
Kyle Martin
Yagmoor

The tallest guy of this lot is 181cm.

That is 13 players (nearly one third) under 182cm.

Then we have Freeman and Ramsy at 183cm and Broomhead 184cm.

I would say the first 10 are all worthy of a game...but I don't think we could carry any more than 6-8.

You can't have a forward line of Kennedy, Blair and Elliott.

You can't have a midfield containing all of Sidebottom, Thomas, Freeman and Dwyer.

Then you can't have a backline with Sinclair, Fasolo and Williams.

You need depth...my problem is that there is too much quality here. We could get something for these guys and you don't want them rotting at VFL level. Then they just have no value at all.

What are your thoughts?

I jus't can't see us carrying 1/3 of our list at this height.

This is true, but I think what we have coming through is a lot stronger. Still haven't seen Scharenberg or Freeman, but then there is still Kennedy, Adams, Broomhead, Karnezis, Martin and Marsh who we are excited about. Then there is still Seedsman and Sinclair who are out.

With the surplus of tall defenders we seem to have, its the perfect scenario to secure another 1st round pick.

Nathan Brown at this point has currency, I have no doubt there would be suitors come knocking with a first rounder in their pockets.

He just lacks that mobility that Frost and Keeffe posess.

Its harsh but it could end up being the way we have to go, as has been previously stated we cant just carry these blokes as reserves.
