I can’t remember a worse batting lineup. Handscomb and Harris have played tests but clearly on the decline. Harris not helped by so much time carrying drinks. Our best batsman is Maddo who comes back from long term injury but is a duck or hundred type player.

Unfortunately Puck is a lost cause and Kellaway is a solid support act but we’ve got no one to make runs at the other end. Matt Short makes more runs for Adelaide than Victoria.

Then there’s the no6 averaging 26 and the no 7 averaging 19…

Do not write the Vics off yet,a great effort by their bowlers to keep them in the game and perhaps we have the same problem as Australia when we mention batting. Was there for first 2 sessions today as mentioned in the other thread and really enjoyed the day.A bit in it for the bowlers I like but this looks like a real contest and hopefully our batting does not let us down 2nd innings but lets get the remaining 4 wickets at first especially Bancroft.

I'm curious as to what happens with your surplus of bowlers?
Boland and Siddle won't be around much longer. O'Neill, Perry, Elliot, Sutherland, Crone, Murphy, Warren. Young bowling brigade with huge upside. Lots to fit into ideally 4 spots. One of that lot likely to head interstate for more opportunities? I noticed Elliot wasn't selected for round 10.

Rogers and Sutherland need a kick up the arse.
Get your selections right. 5 bats and a long tail.
It is four bats, plus Short, Harper and Sutherland.

The side has been seriously unbalanced with the insistence on playing 5 specialist bowlers*, imsisting Harper is a better than number 7 bat.

Ideally Kellaway as a youngster bats at 5 or 6. Instead he has batted at 3-6 or dropped because of our weird structure.

* please don’t tell me Sutherland is an all rounder. He is not. He’s a decent bowler and with a different selection policy he’d bat at 9. Perry has a better technique and arguably temperament.

I wonder whether Vic has been ordered by CA to play 5 bowlers.

The Coach is a deep thinker about the game. I refuse to believe he is comfortable with Merlo and Short types in FC cricket nor that he comfortable going into matches with sometimes just 4 capable batsmen.

The bright lights for me this Season were O’Neill, Murphy, the return of Maddo and continued development of Kellaway.

Much for CV to think about and hope the best for t(ose playing red ball cricket os in the off season.

Crone feels like a good Grade cricketer but unlikely to step up. McClure looks much more promising IMO, and both are obviously behind Perry, Ferg and Chief.

Elliott is a good player but hasn't found his feet in red ball cricket, struggles in the second XI at times too.

Yep. Think Elliott is next in line for another crack provided he works his backside off before next season.

But our bowling has not been the issue. And Im guessing the mighty Siddle will not be called on as often next season.

Our big issue is the batting.

Hope I don't sound like I'm whingeing.

I love watching our team and am really grateful for the terrific streaming service. I am already looking forward to 24/25.

Should we have a look at Phillipe for the keeping spot?
Nope. Harper the much better keeper and Philippe averages a measly 2 more over their careers.

This is the same across every state team across the country. Every team's pace bowling stocks are chock full of reliable blokes with depth ready and roaring to be called upon. Then there's the batting....even WA, seen as the pinnacle of domestic cricket of late have as brittle a batting lineup as anyone. At one point in the WA thread some posters were calling to drop players like Cartwright and Phillipe and just play hopeless kids.

PS I do come in peace, I visit other teams threads often as I keenly follow each state's progress and domestic cricket in general.

Gee…I wonder why that is?

The comp seems very weak. Of the Top 20 run scorers this season none have career averages of 40 or higher.
Handscomb, Harris and Bancroft all around 39.

Excluded O Davies has he debuted in the last 12 months. He is at 52.
