Nothing stunning here, except having done the Tigers four times and Essendon and the Swans 3 times. If only we could get Collingwood on the list more often.

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

Rooey isn't a full forward and he spends a lot of the time up the ground so u cant expect him to kick a lot of goals. Also his goal kicking doesnt help either :P

His conversion seems pretty poor, I'm wondering though (attn: Champion Statistician Extraordinaire Squiz!) how Roo's conversion rate sizes up against other Key forwards of the modern era?

Milney has moved into the top 150 goalkickers (of all-time), level with John Nicholls and Paul Williams, and one behind Barry Breen and Jacko.
That is just really amazing! He'll still incur some creative bagging from opp supps for being crap - regardless of the stats. If he was a different player for a different team what dsort of coverage would this get, I wonder?

Then it's decided he can't retire for another 6 seasons.:D

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

Late mail - the comeback against Hawthorn (at 1/2 time) was the fifth best in the club's entire history :

1 48 St Kilda 1.8 (14) vs Richmond 9.8 (62) 1975 11 Wav

2 34 St Kilda 2.8 (20) vs Melbourne 7.12 (54) 1974 2 MCG

3 30 St Kilda 4.8 (32) vs Hawthorn 9.8 (62) 1976 12 OO

4 29 St Kilda 4.2 (26) vs Footscray 9.1 (55) 1972 3 Mor

5 28 St Kilda 6.3 (39) vs Hawthorn 10.7 (67) 2008 16 TD

I should've started following the Saints earlier - four big comebacks in five seasons.

What's amazing about this list is that you have to go back to #14 to find anything from our golden years of 2004-06 and to number 9 to find anything from the 2000s at all. Sure, we've won a lot of games but the rule of thumb has been - put a four goal space on us, and you've probably got us on toast. Nice to see we've broken that thumb.

Spot on Fez.

With that win against the Bombers that was only by a point.

So to turn around a sizeable deficit and come away with a sizeable win is something that hasn't been seen in a long time.

Even the steadying win against the Blues when they came at us with a fantastic sign.

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

Don't know what sort of Statistic it is, but Sam Fisher has the highest average weekly dreamteam score of all defenders.
And STILL won't make the AA team...

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

Lots (over 250 times in our very long history). Note (in the dark dim days pre-Telstra Dome) we also used to play in the wind which often favoured one end of the ground. The Moorabbin wind was a ripper - whoever designed the grandstand to not block the southerly wind was a numbnut).

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

And STILL won't make the AA team...

The commentators hardly seem to notice how good the bloke is. Cannot believe he didn't make it last year so nothing will surprise this year.

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

If Milburn makes the AA team before Fisher there will be holes in several walls in my house. If Harley makes the AA team before Fisher the selectors will be recieving death threats. If Enright makes the AA team before Fisher I will be burning down AFL house. If Andrew ****ing Mackie makes it before Fisher there will be no survivors. Unfortunately judging by last year all 4 will make it ahead of Chips >: [

Fully agree regarding Milburn, Mackie and, to a lesser extent though, Enright.

Harley, however, had a very good year - maybe even better than Scarlett.

Harley is good because he reads the play very well and, as we are constantly reminded of by Robert Walls and company, marks more balls from opposition passes than any other player in the AFL.

Scarlett is good because of his speed and athletic ability. He can run forwards off their feet and be far more damaging with his attack than his forward (whom he'll often take care of on the way).

One could argue that Fisher is a combination of both. He is a first class defender by now, he has very strong hands (only Richo and Riewoldt have taken more marks this season), is quick and has an attacking mindset (one of the best goals I have seen was his run over the entire ground with a quick one - two pass in the middle in 2006 against Geelong).

Were he playing for Geelong, his odds for AA would be 1.00.

Re: Lies Lies Damn Statistics

Interestingly (to me anyway) this is the 5th season in a row that Milne has played 21 games or more.

I had not realised he was so resilient, but the recent fracture at Subi shows he's got some guts.

Saints have more finals game experience than any other team in the 2008 finals.
