I don't think you can be overly disappointed with any of them.

Excepting Watts who is probably headed to Melbourne, the others would all be good pick ups for us.

We need mids so any 1 of Rich, Hartlett and Ziebell would be excellent, although I'd personally prefer one of the latter two. Not sure about Rich - he might end up another Mundy sort, great kick but too one paced. Plus the others are better extractors.

As for Nat, that guy could be anything and on that basis alone you'd have to select him if he was available. Injuries happen to all, and if so, we've got a great spring-heeled ruck ready to fill in and play straight away. Personally I think he'll lose a little of his spring over the years as he bulks up further and will settle into a wingmen/forward who swings up and down the ground like a more mobile, more damaging Adam Goodes/Mathew Richardson sort. He'd be great defensively inside 50 too. He obviously needs work on his kicking and footy smarts but that will come in time.

The other one is Hurley. We need another backmen so McPharlin can play forward. Our forward line is so much better when McPharlap heads up there. But without him, our backline is too undersized and we can't afford to lose a player like Grover as what happened this year - we lost several close games while he was out.

naturally we would prefer rich because he is homegrown, but history would suggest he won't be the only quality mid in this draft

if you have a look at the last few drafts, every couple of years there are 2/3 standout mids taken inside the top ten. judd/hodge/bartel in 01, cooney/mclean in 03, delidio/griffen in 04, gibbs/selwood in 06

rich, ziebell and hartlett are in this type of class

I just reckon we need to add a good midfielder into our best 22 asap if we can. Especially now with Bell, MCarr & Macca all gone.

I know it's hard to get a ready-to-go like Palmer, Murphy, Judd etc with our first pick, but we have to try.

And by the sounds of things, Rich/Hartlett/Ziebell appear to fit the bill.

Is Rich really that good??

From what I have seen, he is not worth all the hype.

Very one sided, lacks a yard of pace....to me he is one dimensional and hardly a superstar in waiting.

Another M. Priddis if you ask me.

I hope to hell the slime pick him.

One mention of his name and they go into a rapture about their new messiah!!

Young Walters impresses me.

Probably a 2nd rounder, maybe a 3rd, who would slot straight in to a FP or HFF. (Sorry Wiz....been nice having you and that..)

A few years in the gym and he may even be a decent mid.

That is exactly what I was about to say, bushie. I'm hoping that Rich has already been drafted before our first pick. I rate Hartlett and Ziebell much higher than him.

Everything rests on WC for us in this draft. If they take Rich, than Port will take Naitanui. However if they take Nat, I can't see Port taking Rich. I think a perfect draft for us would be Watts at #1 (Melbourne), Rich at #2 (Eagles) and Nat at #3 (Port). As I said I don't rate Rich very highly, and with Naitanui you don't know really know what he will become. Either Hartlett or Ziebell would be the best fit for for our midfield, and I would have Ziebell slightly ahead due to his size.

As for Hurley, I don't really want him that much. Defenders can be drafted later on, no point wasting our first pick on him. I don't think he will ever be that great, he will be a solid defender but that's all. He doesn't look to be that mobile, and is quite slow. Not what we need. I would prefer us to draft and develop a forward, and let McPharlin play where he should be playing, at FB.

If we pick Natanui, it is entirely possible that Port would overlook Rich - I heard Kevin Sheehan discussing the U18 players on ABC a couple of weeks back and he didn't rate Rich in the top 3 or 4 players available, so Port may go for someone other than Rich.

sorry for the quick thread hijack, keyser werent you a wce supporter? what happened? sorry i havent been here for a while?!

unless phil smart has another complete brain fade of the stribling/edgecombe magnitude, i think we will be pretty safe in getting a quality midfielder.

hey does anyone think deboer will drop to the second round? i honestly reckon it is a possibility
There is every chance he wont go until 2nd round. Especially since you will have an early 2nd round pick

Oh god dont tell me if you get Ziebell that might give half an excuse to get that bell ringer of yours out of his half a season of retirement.

There is more than a few horde happy to know the bell ringer has retired as well...
I don't think it will be brought back out again, and not for a first year player anyways... would have to be a special player on the level of Peter Bell to have the bell reinstated....

Rich will be the best mid from this draft in my opinion, the kid can kick a pin point pass over 60m. They dont come around too often. He also has great balance which makes him very hard to tackle. I pray he slides to our pick.

Excuse the ignorance...
Can anyone give me a quick summary of Diezbell and Hartlett? Never really heard of these guys? WA, SA, VIC? What are they like?
Cheers.
