Same thing happened to me when I was with my girl in the city a couple of weeks ago. There were a couple of young punks talking shit as we walked past, don't think they were junkies-just kids who listen to too much hip hop trying to look tough, I fired back because I reckon I coulda taken them both but not knowing whether they had knives or other weapons I just kept walking in the end. I felt kinda shitty afterwards and my pride was slightly dented but I dunno, I'm too old to be getting into that crap now and nobody fights fair anymore so it just wasn't worth it.

2) Walk away and risk your GF having a talk about you not being "a real man".

Agree with the OP. It's not fair on the good people of society who have to put up with this sort of stuff.

Yet how do you clean up society, from this point of view? You can't have police patrolling every single street and train station (though you'd often wish they would).

Not all drug users are bad. In fact, most of them will be friendlier to you than any normal person. That said, there is a bad element out there. I have almost given up going to town these days because of the violence and the attitudes of some people towards those they consider easy targets. My little brother has recently turned 18 and has been the victim of these ****up thugs on more than one occassion already. In recent weeks I too have had a knife pulled on me and been threatened by groups of thugs. Our legal system doesn't want a piece of it, and cops if they're not too scared to do something aren't that keen to arrest these small time trouble makers because it means they have to stay late to do paper work. Something needs to be done. It's time we take back the streets - I agree.

Back in the late 90's it was ****ed. Junkie on every corner shooting up and you'd find guys just lying on streets looking dead. These days it's a ****ing cruise down there. I like to call them upper class junkies, they have evolved.
