Thats what Hunt will be on and he is not established .
If your a top footy player and wanting to go to the Gold Coast you should ask for $1.5 to $ 2 million per year
That would be fair and the Gold Coast wont be able to attract top footy players as they have only so much money .

First point nobody know how much Hunt will be being paid.

Second point GCFC only have to pay players significantly more than the would earn with other AFL club. Hunt on the other hand,if the move is solely about money, could earn significantly more playing RU/RL internationally so they have to pay something comparable to what he can earn elsewhere.

Hodge
Hawthorn - $400,000
Gold Coast - $700,000

Hunt
Broncos - $400,000
Gold Coast - $800,000
Japan RU - $1,000,000

Firstly his payments aren't included in the salary cap because he is a rookie, they can front load his contract, so if he is elevated they can pay him less.

Whats that got to do with the price of fish?

I did not mention the salary cap, the salary cap has no bearing on what I said.

To get somebody, on the basis of money alone, to move a long distance for the purpose of employment you must pay them significantly more than what they can earn in their current location and at least equal to what they can earn in a 3rd location no taking taxes and cost of living into account.

The opposite can also said to be true, you can pay somebody less to say to stay in the current llocation then what they could earn somewhere else, ie staying in Queenslands against moving to France or Japan.

I read it was $700,000.

Why should they get paid more? I'd be happy just to have an excuse to live up there, lovely weather.

I am not saying it would happen but ..ie : if Didak went to the Gold Coast and was paid less or equal to Hunt that would be an insult to Didak .
Hunt is a " new kid on the block " and Didak is a champion .

I think a marquee player is going to attract something like $1m a year. It has to be something crazy good to get them to want to leave a promising club.

Not sure if the following players are contracted or not but this is what I would throw at them:

McGuane (Richmond) $400k
Warren (North) $350k
Beams (Collingwood) $450k
Whitecross (Hawthorn) $350k
Petterd (Melbourne) $450k
Armitage (Saints) $350k
White (Sydney) $500k
Williams (Bulldogs) $400k
Tippet (Crows) $1000k

That is 9 players that would be about $4m and about half their salary cap for the first year, GC also gets an extra $2m early on. You also have about $550k for marketing allowance so you can probably tack on another $100k on to 5 of the players that need a bit more incentive, but they will have a big home incentive to return, not just a monetary one.

You would think Collingwood, Hawthorn, Saints and Bulldogs would have salary cap issues and wont get remotely close to matching those offers.

Half their squad are going to be draftees so wont be on much more than 60-100k each in their first year, say $80k average for 20 of them. That raises them to about 6m and they have 4m on the remaining 11 players which would be about a $360k average which is very generous for youngish players that they will target.
