I'm proud that my club is tanking!

To think the other AFL clubs have to subsidise this rubbish club, is a disgrace. The sooner football socialism ends the better.

Football will be a much better game when this literally bankrupt and morally bankrupt club gets the arse, along with their spineless supporters who can go off and support netball.

It's not worth it i reckon, how many times has the best player in the draft been the #1 pick. Riewoldt for sure, probably no others.

You can still get awesome kids with lower picks, and the wins a team can get late in the season can set you in good stead for the preseason.

Oh, and y'day we beat the Hawks without our two #1 picks.

Tanking does stuff all. Wher did it get us in 04 05 06? Getting a decent coach and game plan and players with heart is what wins you games.

Dee's fail all 3 of those departments.

to be fair, the boys try their heart out, no matter what Bailey does, as you'll see by their faces after the Richmond loss

Oh well at least I know we'll have the best midfield in the comp by 2011. Scully, Trengrove, Davey Blease, Grimes and Morton all banging it down to the excitment machines in Jurrah and Watts!

Exciting times ahead for the Dees!!!
Most of that is based on hope. Scully and Trengrove maybe the first two picks but they're not certainties to be guns. Personally I think Davey is overrated, he'll be way past his best in 2011. Blease hasn't played a game yet. From what I've seen he's exciting but doesn't get the ball much. Grimes will be good but I don't think he's going to be an elite midfielder. Best midfield in the comp by 2011 is a big call and a pointless call at that. We'll wait and see. Watts...well it's too early to tell. Jurrah will be a good player nothing more nothing less. Your forward line is a big big worry so even if you do get a good midfield you'll still need to fix the forward line. I don't know much about your backline.

Oh my, some of you Demon fans are delusional.

You's aren't tanking, you are just a very ordinary football team.

I might use this tanking excuse for some of our performances.

These comments are spot-on, it may surprise some Melbourne fans, but you are not actually tanking, the reality is you have a shocking list that will take another three drafts to rebuild, tanking is so over-rated for teams that are ACTUALLY very ordinary to say the least.

Cooney won the Brownlow last year

But yeah, players like Bartel, Pavlich, Judd, Goodes, J Selwood, Buddy etc etc were not number ones.

Ablett jr and Cousins were father son ones.

It is a good indicator though. Gibbs, Murphy, Hodge, Fraser and others are amongst the best in the competition too.

It's something that also bemuses me.

Look how long Carlton have taken to even compete for the top eight, even with all those number 1 and first round draft picks.

And as we all know, a losing culture often leads to dwindling memberships and dwindling sponsorship, not to mention there is no guarantee whatsoever that whoever you pick will become a star and that lower draft picks will be worse.

Exactly, Carlton with all those picks are only just making the finals, yet still a bit off the pace and they also got to add one of the top 3 players in the game to those draft picks, something I can't see Melbourne ever managing to do. The whole time they had been tanking other teams have been able to drop out and then get back into the 8 and compete while still getting good players.

Look at Adelaide, they actually have quite a young playing list who personally I would take over the youngsters Melbourne have stockpiled and they have basically been a finals side for the last decade. Think of all the number 1 picks who were not the best player in the draft, there are heaps...tanking is yet to reward anyone imo.

Yeh Adelaide is an amazing club :thumbsu:

Meh, but by getting all those early picks, we've leapt frogged sides like North and Richmond, whose constant mid-table finishes have denied them enough quality youth/kids, plus Richmond kept doing stupid trades like giving up pick 19 for Jordy Mcmahon ...

If Richmond actually had an more 'extended' bottoming out period like Carlton (and Melbourne now) they would be in a much better position then what you are now.

Your use of analogy fails you.

Of course not having a burglar alarm is an incentive to be robbed.

If you were a burglar and there were two identical houses except for the fact that one had a security system, which would you rob.

That's not the point I was making. The point is, you shouldn't burgle anyway. It's morally corrupt, not to mention legally wrong. Same point. You shouldn't tank, whether there is a priority pick or not. The analogy is perfectly sound in the context I used it in.

F*ck off you unlisted prick, according to your name (which implies you go for Carlton) you were and still are to ashamed to show yourself after 5 seasons of no effort, no reward and as AFaiL's sig says 'they know we're laughing'.

And all our spineless supporters who donated $1,000,000 within a week, even after last years two million. It's not our fault that past administrations have destroyed us and that the man who has brought us relative success is in Thailand fighting for his life.

Oh, and by the way, you call us spineless when your supporters can only admit they go for Carlton and only wear the jumpers or colours when they win.

Actually he is an Carlton hating troll (his user name Blue-SPOONER is a deadset giveaway) ...
But you make a great point with the rest of your post though.

Not that you would (or should) care, but my respect for West Coast has skyrocketed in the last fortnight.

Great footy club. :thumbsu:

nah most of us would probably care including myself its great seeing any club rise from another poor finish to win 2 in a row including one top 4 team without arguably 2 of our best players.

hopefully it is a set up for a top 8 run next season.

Like a steaming pile of shit attracts flies this thread was always going to attract the anti-tanking nuffies, been an amusing couple of minutes though, i must admit.

Yeah fair point about Cooney's draft. Sylvia looks like becoming a wasted talent though...and Adcock is just too injury prone.

I do have an admiration for how Adelaide have done though. Didn't need to bottom out to be challenging again. Got the right mix of experienced players and young up-and-comers, and it helps that Neil Craig is one of the better tacticians in the business.

Scully and Trengrove over a couple of late season meaningless wins thanks.

The Dees are taking advantage of the last un-compromised draft and are that close to getting picks 1,2 and 18 to add to our expanding young talent.

I'm sure if your club was in the same position, you'd expect the same tactics displayed by Melbourne.

You can have the number one pick, you wasted the last one on Watts. Picks 1,2 and 18 going to Melbourne will mean the quality will go deeper into the draft.

if you'd watched us this year, you would see that Sylvia has finally lived up to his potential, and had we not been tanking, he's be the main part of the Demons related news this year
