i was going to write my own comment about how i've turned off the views of journos over the past year and a half, but this says it so perfectly.
rating less and less what they have to say, questioning more, finding more fault, wasting less time reading it.

Still believe we can make the 8 obviously I am delusional but in reality I believe in what we are doing I was told weeks ago that 8 wins is our target so lets see. I love all that has begun to happen wait to you all see what Ive seen, Can we really make the 8 probably not but while we are winning anything is possible. I dont see the same negative agenda towards Richmond that others do.

If we are not performing then there are few on field positives to talk about and the negatives are the only things that will keep us in the papers.

If we ever rise up the ladder they will sell the shit out of it. I always thought Channel 7 pumps us up when we are worth being pumped up.

I agree. There is no media bias against Richmond. The Victorian media and the media in general would like to see an up and running Richmond because they coud sell the story. Melbourne jump into contention....so what? North get going....so what? Richmond get going....headline copy!!!!

We're pumping games into the kids anyway.

We are winning games by playing kids, Damo is awarding the best players with gametime. We want to install a successful culture. So wins are paramount. I dont want to be the side tanking for draft picks, because its not always fool proof and we dont need to embarrass the club that way.

Everybody getting a game deserves one at the moment. Whilst I agree that we should be pumping games into kids, we should also be continuing to reward the guys who work hard and keep performing with games. Playing guys in the 1s just because they are kids dosent really instill a hard working culture. Everybody should be made to earn and then keep their spot in the side, regardless of whether they are 18 or 30.

the season is shot play as many kids as possible play them in different positions lets see what they have to offer.
tambling is one who has supposedly had injury all yr send him of for an early break or operation or whatever. dont rush foley back give him the extra time those who need ops can go early give cuz a break play morton midfield etc etc its the ideal time to do these sorts of things.

we are coming off a spoon yes we all know melb would have finished above us if they were dumb enough to win a couple of games. and we are heading for another spoon have few quality players and lack depth in almost every position except small forward or small back.

There are two differences between winning games in the second half of the year a few years ago and now.

One has already been highlighted, in that we're playing kids which will use the confidence and grow for it, not 30 year olds in the twilight of their carreers which have no improvement left.

The second is that, in my opinion, our recruiting is not top notch. Last draft is an example of this, where pick 71 has turned into an absolute steal. I'd love to have a look at other picks around there and see if they look anything like what we've found in Nason.
Before, we'd win the meaningless games but more importantly BOTCH THE RECRUITING AS A RESULT. I really don't think we're going to screw up our recruiting as a result of a pick one or two higher this time round.

It was 2000-2002 that they finished at the arse end of the ladder, during which time they picked up Goddard Riewoldt Ball Kosi Dal Santo.

In the 5 years before the Saints picked up these guys: in 95 they finished 14th, in 96 they finished 10th, they finished top in 97 and played in a GF, 6th in 98 playing in the semi finals, 10th in 99 missing the finals by 1 game and %.

Come 2003 they won 11 games finished in 11th, 3.5 wins ahead of Geelong & 4 wins ahead of us, 2004 they finished 3rd, 2005 they finished 4th, 2006 they finished 6th, 2007 they finished 9th missing the finals by half a game, 2008 they finished 4th and last year they finished runners up.

So outside the 4 years where they finished 14th(95), 16th(2000), 15th(2001) & 15th(2002) they haven't finished any lower than 11th since the middle of the 90's. Thats 11 years of mid table finishes or better and yet people like to use them as an example of how tanking works. fremantle argueably didn't tank, they tried to get their players with a winning mentality but never were good enough to win that many games. they finished bottom half got a fair few years and they're rebuilt. no need to aim for the spoon imo.

If you have the chance to add more "ilk" to your team you take it. Chances are we are going to trade some of our players for picks. We probably wont get the PP but saying pick 6 is just as good as pick 4 is wrong.
