It really was a weird game tonight.

Geelong showed their consumate class in the face of absolute statistical domination. Any other team in the league (perhaps bar St Kilda) would have capitulated to a 10+ goal defeat on the basis of Collingwood's relentless pressure, hard ball gets and inside 50's.

The fact that Geelong walked away with what was a narrow loss (based on the run of play) is a credit to their never say die attitude.

The final series is going to be an absolutely fascinating spectacle.

Bring it on. :thumbsu:

Collingwood were great. I can't help but feel the Cats didn't regard this game the same way the Pies did.

Great appetizer for what might be ahead on the final day.

This game reminded me a little of the '08 belting. Geelong had a few less passengers tonight and at least stayed in it.. (plus the pies didn't kick straight).

come on mudkipz, they were tough to come back from 5 goals down and lead at half time
credit where credit is due, although i do agree with your assessment, if we could get this goal kicking sorted it would definitely help

Can you blame them? They seem to play a 'blockbuster' once a month.

Didn't think I'd need to say how good they are, everyone knows they are.

Massive momentum shift when the goal umpire stuffed up. In all some very odd calls the Pies way.

hate to say this but imo the flag is the pies to lose, the cats had their best side in tonight and should have lost by 10 goals. Do they have more tricks up their sleeve for next time if they play again? i doubt it. The dogs are the only side that can beat the pies and considering they are hitting peak form now they look to be the legitimate challenger. I would have said the hawks were a sniff but after todays pathetic performance i fear what will happen round 22.

Our kicking at goal is what kept them in it..

disagree with this, collingwood did seem to dominate most of the general play but a lot of there kicks for goal were under pressure, or from tight angles. whereas a lot of geelong kicks for goal came from marks in front of the goals from kicks over the defenders head.

Collingwood seem to beat geelong when its not cutthroat final.. amazing

Pretty disingenuous comment.
The Pies kicked 23 points in a game where both sides had their best side on the paddock and have now won 3 games for top of the ladder status.

Not a final true.
Credit where due though.

It seems like Collingwood are missing heaps of shots every game though.

It hasn't mattered because they've been dominating so much that they've been peppering the goals with shots and scored enough to win games and shut down opposition.

As we found out in '08 though, it can become a problem if you carry that habit into September and waste so many shots. You give the opposition an opening to come back and regain momentum.

We almost did it tonight but had our momentum killed by a poor goal umpiring decision.

Cats had no half forward line. Who is their CHF? Certainly wasn't Mooney or Podsiadly judging by tonight. Johnson was the only one putting in an effort at half forward and even he wasn't very good.

Had 7-8 posters, slightly unlucky.

If we kicked straight it was over at 1/2 time.

Complete midfield dominance over the team that supposedly has an all star midfield.

You've had a good win, but don't get cocky. The Geelong midfield is the best midfield of the last decade and possibly longer. One poor performance doesn't change that.
