I might have missed this being mentioned in this thread, but Rendell after the draft stated that he wasn't so disappointed in trading away #50 now because he would have taken Lyons with that pick anyway. Alex Browne, who was strongly linked to us at #61 went to Collingwood at #48. So maybe Daffey actually had a bit of decent inside information there.

I know this lad very well. Great skills, footy smarts, courageous and an absolute ripper kid. But please be realistic. Pick 61 is what it is. Jarryd is a bit of late bloomer, only 1 year at TAC level, no Vic metro selection and at this stage not quite in the ‘elite’ junior class. May not play senior AFL footy next year but with a bit of luck he will be a gem for your club. I wish him well. A great kid from a great school (De La Salle Malvern) and a great junior club (the mighty St Peters JFC East Bentleigh). Your club has done well. A bargain at 61.

Thanks for the input... I honestly dont think any one expects Lyons to play AFL in his first year. I would love to see him play the year with a strong SANFL club and taste a bit of finals action. Problem is you would think at least 2 maybe 3 of the Port boys selected will get picked up in the SANFL draft before him. Hopefully most rookie selections from Port and Crows will come locally otherwise if another 4 or 5 mature interstaters get picked up he may well find himself at my mob, Souths, which will be a bloody tough gig for a young half forward flanker. Would love to see him at Norwood with the great man as his coach:thumbsu:

is matty's interview online anywhere? i cant see one on 5aa or the bigpond website

I thought the Crows may have thrown up an interview with Jarryd by now but can't see anything on their website.

I know they probably don't want to hit him too soon with all of this and I would understand if he wants to concentrate on the big move but as he was only 1 of 2 draftees I want to see and hear from him on his reaction to becoming a Crow and what it means for him to play AFL under NC and his first impressions of the club and the town.

I think I can do the interview for him.

'Yeh, I'm absolutely stoked to be drafted. Adelaide looks great, I met all the players today and they were all really helpful and I can't wait to settle in and get into training.'

Would have flown over on Sunday or Monday, joined the boys on camp and will be returning with them for Thursday training when we'll see an interview.

No, it was just on very quickly on 5AA after the draft. Couldn't have been much longer than a minute. Rendell didn't have much to say at that point and just kinda mocked the whole thing.

"You must be pleased"
"Well, I think everyone says that now"

He said he does go for the local boy if its 50/50 but didn't say whether it affected his choice of Smith.

That was about it.

So tell me Jarryd Who is your favorite Crows player and what jumper number do you want?

One last question who do you wish to play for in the SANFL next season as all new recruits get to pick where they go.:p:p

If it's the one I'm thinking of, I recorded it and put it in the draft thread at the time. I'll see if I can dig it up.

Jarryd was interviewed on 5AA yesterday if anyone is able to find the link. There was also an article in Saturday's Advertiser detailing his diary of last week if that is online.

we may not expect him to play this year, but he does.

good on him

I don't really see any reason why he couldn't, he's already of a reasonable size, so assuming he's good enough and doesn't get injured like the rest of our 1st year players tend to do, he's every chance to get a game or two I think.

forgive me for laughing but i couldnt control my cynicism - and nothing personal against Lyons - you can virtually substitute any 1st/2nd year player's name - unless of course we have a million injuries

I do, there aren't any more games this year.

Looks to have that ability to wait just a fraction of a second longer to dispose of the ball in order to ensure he hits a taraget, very similar to Stiffy in that regard. Hope he gets a game or two.

I can not see Jarryd or Brodie playing next season. the list is full of kids and they are just another two at the bottom of the pecking order. Neil will be looking for them to force their way into the side, they wont get handed debutes like guys were this year due to the amount of injuries. If you look at the absolute best 21 (plus sub) and you will see that there are another 10 guys looking for games who are ready and able.

If the crows have minimal injuries and are able to win the games they should next season I dont think we will see many changes at all unless forced. The sub rule could well be used to trott out the youngsters yet by some clubs, its hard to tell.

But then again, young kids form is inconsistent - some may not last the whole season...and Brodie & Jarryd maybe performing well enough in the SANFL to justify a game or two.
