I'd want the team for the first ODI to be:

Warner
Wade
S. Marsh
Clarke
Faulkner
M. Hussey
S. Smith
M. Marsh
Maxwell
Harris
Hilfenhaus

Forgot about Wade. If he doesn't play (even if just for his batting, Gilchrist-style), after how well he's done in the Ryobi Cup in the past 12 or so months, I think I might explode!
And you'd think Starc will be a certain starter after his last two Big Bash games and how well he did in the test match (plus the fact he has an ODI 4-for already).

Waiting for a Victorian to say Brad Hodge
Do you mean the Brad Hodge that is yet again leading (clearly) the most runs for the Ryobi Cup season (with an average of 52, a strike rate of 97- while opening- and a highest score of 144) and who has made about 13 one day centuries in the past couple of years? Shit, he shouldn't even be getting a game for his state with figures like that!
You're right, it would be crazy for anyone to want someone in that sort of form to be playing for their country.
It's much better that they look to others who aren't going as well. I mean it's not like we want to beat Sri Lanka and India (who just won the World Cup and want to take our no.1 ranking off us) or anything.

I mean two years ago we were being told he was too old to be picked for Australia again, yet he's still making runs like it's going out of style two years later and there's no telling how much longer he will continue to do so.

Maxwell is injured fyi.

You'd want to see them rotating through a couple of the younger bowlers. Hopefully Cummins and Pattinson get up for a couple. At least one of Couter-Nile, McDermott and Faulkner should get a game, whilst Starc should also be up there.

Wade made the number one keeper.
Coulter-Nile made a part of the fast bowler rotations.
Mitch Marsh to keep his spot in the side.
Like the idea of Maxwell getting a game as well when he is right.

Got to think Haddin will be playing in the ODI's if he's been named for the PM XI. They obviously don't think they need to rest him too much if he's playing that game and you wouldn't think they'd play him there if he wasn't going to be playing for Aus in the ODI's.
It's one thing to keep him going in the tests, but when you have someone like Wade banging down the door in one day games and Haddin getting to the stage where they'll surely be wanting to usher him out, you'd think this would be the PERFECT time to speed up his exit strategy (which began with his demotion from the T20 side).

McDermott, Coulter-Nile, Starc and Mitch Marsh. Obviously Wade if possible but not likely.

Pretty much agree with those mentioned. Starc and Coulter-Nile in particular I'd like to see, Starc because he's a genuine gun in the shorter forms, and NCN because I can see that being the stepping stone to Test cricket for him (and he's not too shabby in the 50 over stuff himself). It would be nice to see a bit more of Mitch Marsh, though I also think he'll benefit more from FC cricket, so long term probably best to wait.

Wade should be keeper, but failing that, he could probably play as a specialist batsman. Where do you fit him in though?

Aaron Finch would be nice, but his form hasn't exactly been sparkling....

I reckon there's a fair chance that Brett Lee will get picked which would make no sense at 34 with no chance of playing at the next world cup and with the amount of young fast bowlers that deserve games.

It's all about scheduling around the fixtures. Leave Wade out of the 1st ODI (probably going to happen anyway) so he can play Shield cricket. Could do the same for guys like Starc and Mitch Marsh or leave them out of the 2nd ODI unless CA is happy having them playing 6 days straight. Key is allowing some of the fringe ODI players to play Shield cricket.

Wasn't Lee in the ODI squad in South Africa recently but didn't play due to having his appendix taken out ?

Wade, I doubt will be playing that Sheild match. He has practically been confirmed to keep in the T20's on Feb 3.....

which seems to point towards giving Haddin a go in the ODI's...though forcing him back into the domestic scene clearly shows that they are thinking about his future at least. perhaps a mid tournament swap to Wade?

1. D. Warner - Best opener around
2. E. Cowan - Had a blinder in the ODDs last summer. Having a good test summer.
3. M. Wade - Haddin might be an ok limited overs player but he must go. Wade has great form.
4. A. Finch - Been the form limited overs top order batsmen for a few years now. Has youth and good hitting power when required.
5. M. Clarke - Captain.
6. M. Hussey - Match saver.
7. D. Christian - The form all rounder in limited overs cricket. Has batting and Bowling form.
8. S. O'Keefe - The form spin all rounder. Hit a lot of runs in last years ODDs.
9. J. Pattinson - Swing bowler with form and batting ability.
10. P. Siddle - Ability to bowl a line and get wickets and make runs makes him a good fit. Averages 25 with the bat this series adn has second most wickets.
11. B. Hilfenhaus - Genuine swing and accuracy, a real ODI weapon. Can swing the bat, averaging more than haddin this test series and leading the wicket taking.

S. Smith - Handy all rounder. Poor batting ok bowling.
S. Marsh - Good Batsman who is lacking form and fittness.
M. Marsh - Up and coming all rounder. Should play some games.
M. Starc - Handy left armer with limited overs expierence. T20 form.
R. Harris - Very good bowler. Might not be the future RE next world cup.
S. Watson - Will probably not be fit when he returns and will need to find form.
P. Cummings - will he be right to play?
Coulter-Nile - A Good up and comer.

Who I don't want to see
Haddin - Poor form with bat and keeping, too old, won't make the next world cup, not the best wicket keeper around.
White - can't bat at all.
Johnson - run leaker, can't bowl.
Bollinger - Bowls trash and wont make the next world cup. Unless McDermott has fixed him too.
Brett Lee - as good as he is we have a wealth of good young bowlers and he is not required. He won't make the next world cup there for is not the future.

An in form Ryobi Cup team looks like this:

Michael Klinger
Luke Ronchi +
Brad Hodge
Callum Ferguson
Rob Quiney
Dan Christian
Tom Cooper
James Faulkner
Mitchell Starc
Michael Beer
Alister McDermott

Not sure how many of them will play in the internationals.
