To answer your question, there is no hand to hand combat in football. Barring your rare cases these days with fist fights, which I haven't seen for many years, just jumper punches.
Barry has competed in Boxing before, he knows what to do.

I truly wish Big Bad Barry the best in his upcoming fights. The guy can punch. As has been suggested in an earlier comments, Barry will be a legend in his own success. Good on him to. You can only fight who is put in front of you.

For all the MMA haters; please keep your boxing prowess out of mma judgement. It has been proven time and again it is a different sport so please be mindful. Any great boxer ceases to be that when he cant stand the way he chooses in a fight.

A take down threat changes a boxers stance. Point me towards a boxing attacking or defending style that can stop a GSP from gaining top position? When you find it, tell the other welter weights in the division, you're analysis would be petty helpful.

I'm not a hater, but boxing and MMA are different disciplines. It's not about which is the more kick-arse form of fighting, it's about competing within set rules. Boxing permits striking only with the fists - that's the discipline of it. Much like Soccer doesn't allow use of the hands.

As a mad UFC fan and boxing hater I have to agree with this. I can think of 2 Boxing names (Tyson, Ali) that are house hold names.

Most non MMA fans would not know a single fighter.

Oh please Mohammad Ali is a boxing legend. Different type of sport, you are showing your ignorance mate. You may like one sport better doesn't mean that the other means nothing or that you can really compare them. Boxing is more than throwing your fists. I personally do not like the sport, but my father was a boxer and he knows what he is talking about, at least he doesn't shoot from the mouth about things that go over his head.

You mean the fight where the rules were set up so that Inoki could lie on the ground kicking Ali in the leg for the entire match while Ali wasn't allowed to pick him up.

Because Ali initially came in thinking that it would be a worked match with Inoki, not an actual fight.

The thing about it is, there is also boxing in MMA as well as numerous other disciplines, so technically MMA is the superior fighting sport in terms of difficulty of training and learning of techniques, it's just a fact, but whether it is better depends on who you ask. And Jon Jones would beat the living shit out of Ali in his hay day, but that's just because fighting has evolved since then.

I like both boxing and MMA but prefer boxing.. Just. I know it is complicated and skilled stuff but i really cant stand the ground game in MMA, often they can just be lying on top of eachother which really is quite fustrating while others love it and think it is an art form.

Boxing has had more 1mil+ ppvs in the last 4 years than any other 4 year period in history. mma ppvs on the other hand have dropped over 50% since 2009. Only 4 mma ppvs have broken 1mil and 3 of those where headlined by a Professional wrestler.

mma is the latest poker, its a fad that has peaked and will fall away to niche sport.
