Just curious if any of the neutrals actually want Carlton to win? Or are we that much hated (envy) around here?

Who you all tipping?

Obviously Carlton ;)

But I am not as confident as the last 3 years going into the season. Missing a lot of key players but I don't think that counts as an excuse, if we want to talk up being a top 4 side, we still should win.

The game will be won in the midfield.

For sheer amusement value, Carlton thrashing the Tiges. For some reason, the idea of Tigers winning is less funny with the Blues lacking a backline and having a modest pre-season.

Either result is good fun though, considering both sides have been pumping up their own tires. A lot.

I'd quite like to see the Tiges get up, just because I like the underdog.
I actually think Richmond are a genuine chance. Carlton undermanned and underdone, Tiges flying in pre-season. I'm tipping the Tiges.

Why would anyone envy Carlton?

But anyway, hope Tigers will win, and I think the Tiges will win. Shown good signs in the preseason, healthy list for the most part, will molest Carlton's woeful backline and I dare say they'll almost hold their own through the middle through Martin and Cotchin. Hopefully their own average backline can hold their own against the mosquito army, et al.

The media really have swayed the opinions of opposition supporters. If anything, Richmond have played down expectations. It's journos that are hyping us up.

It was until your President decides to give an interview which allows today's HUN to have this headline;

Gary March says Richmond primed for giant step

Seriously why does he feel the need to give an interview at this point of time?

Sponsorships sown up, club heading towards record membership, coach and leading player signed to new deals (and no leaks prior to the signings), promising pre-season form.

It doesn't need the President to remind the footy world of Richmond's ability to talk itself up......and then fail to produce.

I think Richmond will win this week and are on the right track, but the club can publicly pat itself on the back when it wins finals.

Carlton are the class team here, even with a few injuries they should put away the Tigers, even if only by a few goals.
In horse racing terms Carlton are coming down in grade, and Richmond coming up in class, and not very often the proven horse comes undone.

Think: Carlton
Hope: Richmond

Mostly i hope for a good close game, but think Carlton might sneak away in the end and win by 3-4 goals. Hope Richomond for the underdog thing and maybe crack the higher ranks open a bit more for a more interesting season. That said if Jack Riewoldt kicks a bag and i have to look at that smug head after the game i might break the TV.

Bloke excited about his footy team, on the eve of round one. Not everything in life is business champ.

My money is on Richmond, Carlton might take a while to warm up maybe.

This is the first game in a while between these 2 sides that I really think/hope will be a close game. I think Reiwoldt will kick a bag and tiges will get up.

Carlton by a lot, ****ing hate Richmond and Richmond supporters. Love to see them begin their meltdown towards 'microwave membership madness' nice and early this year.
