Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Think Cox will go into the ruck even less than he is doing now and stay as FF. Lynch will probably come back closer to goals too. Big ask on Darling in his 2nd year to be #1 up forward now.

It sucks, but its not the end of the world. I think we will do ok without him. At least he will be back in time to get some form going into finals, which is the main thing.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Brown is out (as Kane said) and isn't exactly mobile..... plus the talk of him playing chf as a kid is not entirely right. He and his brother used to rotate between ruck and rover up until u/18.

McInnes showed a fair bit of ability below his knees in the pre season.

We have 2-3 games before we can try Browm/Schoey even down there anyway, our only other choice would be to play Hill out of the square maybe?

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

That is a real blow, although JK hasn't been firing lately. It'll be hard to replace his presence around the packs with the ones waiting in the wings though. But I'm sure Woosha and the coaching team will come up with a cunning plan.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Hate it how everybody's so down. We will be alright, we are just as good a chance at making top 2 as we were before. It's not about individuals.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

As much as injuries suck balls, the silver lining is that there's games for everyone now.

Last year we were talking about losing players through lack of opportunity. How funny that seems now.

For what it's worth, I think we should bring in a small or medium to replace Kennedy. McInnes and Lycett aren't ready from what little I've seen.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

seriously what the f*** did we do to piss off the injury gods??? this is just ridiculous!! lucky I have unwavering faith that the boys we have fit can pull us through !!

You suggest Brown isn't mobile but then suggest McInnes is?

Lets be honest. McInnes is relatively mobile compared to most young KPF's. But compared to a mature body, he isn't remotely close. Brown would be faster over every distance measured, run games out far better and be stronger in the pack.

The only potential(and I do mean potential) for McInnes would be marking but even then its probably a stretch. He probably wont play this week(Brown that is) but McInnes currently isn't fast or fit enough to put on big forward pressure, nor is he strong enough to take on AFL Fullbacks. If we cant at least pick someone who is going to physically provide a contest, then we have to look at options other than replacing like for like.

Realistically, if Brown is unable to play, there is only 2 possible players who could come in and provide a similar sort of play. Lycett or Wilson.

My best option would be move Darling to FF, Waters to the HFF, Sheppard to the bench and A Selwood to HBF, assuming Emac comes in.

Bring in Leon Davis...Oh wait...

Brown is not mobile.... and he lasted 5 minutes on the weekend and is out for 2-3 weeks so why don't we think about him when he's actually able to play?

We are not trying to bring in a ff, Darling will take that role, we are essentially bringing in a marking 3rd forward to be an option with Lynch, JD, and a resting ruck in the forward 50.

McInnes showed more up forward in the pre season than Lycett too, from my observations anyway.

Devo.

This will test our mettle. The matter of who takes on a forward role now I personally think is somewhat moot, but for what it's worth I think Brown should be given a run up front.

What's much more important in my opinion is the way that Darling, Lynch, Coxy et al will cope with the extra attention from opposition defenders.

We need Darling to play the best 12 weeks of his career right now, and we need Q, Cox & Hilly etc to really ramp it up a notch.

I have no doubt we will still be extremely competitive.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Darling has hardly played as a true KPP, it will be exciting to see how he goes now taking the best defender. Reminds me so much of Jono Brown in the way he moves and crashes packs.

Give Darling the 50 to himself.

Our gameplan requires the ability to chase and put pressure on. McInnes is far too slow(at this stage, simply due to his age) to enact that properly. Brown is not. How can you not see that? Brown was bloody unlucky and is not the awful player you want to seem to make of him.

Perhaps people like you might have learnt their lesson when it comes to players like Masten/Hill/McGinnity etc etc.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Tragic news.

Our misfortune in the forward line continues with Le Cras and Nicoski getting injured earlier in the year.

This now opens up the opportunity for Darling and Lynch to stand up.

Possibly opens the door for Lycett to play more football.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Let's also remember that we won away from home on the weekend effectively without Kennedy. Keep the faith.

For what it's worth 50% of Kennedy's value to our side and our structure is his height.

McInnes in.

I like your optimism but there is no way we are just as good a chance of making top 2 without kennedy.

It takes individuals to make a structure and you bring someone in who doesn't play the same way kennedy does - busting packs, bringing the ball to ground, chase and tackles.

We can still win, but it makes things that much tougher.

I Rarely find the time to watch the WAFL so i'm not sure, but another of Kennedy's key attributes especially last year was his tackling pressure and forward pressure especially inside fifty, we need someone who also knows how to operate the zone, would either McInnes or Lycett be able to apply themselves as such to the roles?

Irrelevant as Brown is injured.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

What a bummer!

For mine, Cox in the ruck for most of the game with NicNat and Lynchy doing a little bit of pinch hitting when required. Then replace JK with a small or medium player prepared to crumb and also apply pressure in the forward line.

While people talk up the height of our forward line, it's real strength has been the pressure it is able to apply to the opposition back line. The fact that we have big guys able to do it is what is extraordinary. Even with JK we're not taking a huge amount of marks in the forward line this year, but we are creating contest and the ball's coming to ground.

It's terrible bad luck, for the club and Kennedy, but hopefully we will be able to get by without too much damage being done.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

We are already guaranteed that brown, schofield and kennedy are out this week. That is three talls down. Emac to come back in as an auto selection and will take his role back which brown was in to cover. Brennan is the most like for like in regards to schofield and his role. His kicking isn't as good but he is agile and likes to go for a run. Is also quite good defensively so can cover schoey's role to a certain extent.

The other option down back is just having smith playing as the third tall, adam selwood coming into the 21 and someone else coming in as the sub.

That leaves us with the big hole that is kennedy's role. We are better off bringing in a runner than bringing in a young tall who isn't ready for afl football. I'd give darling the role, play shuey from the forward flank and bring sheppard into the side.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Why is nearly everyone on this board suggesting to bring in another Tall???

We have still got Cox, Darling, Lynch which is plenty of height. Would love to have a small like Brad Dick available right now.
