Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Kennedy is literally the most important player in our team. It would have been fine if we had lecras but to loose both just makes it impossible. Im not going to tip us beating a top 8 side away from home now until we get some players back. **** this.
I say given the stretch we have to face we first bring in Mcinnes. If that fails we go the extra runner with the resting ruck and Darling having to basically play a FF role.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Despite the flying start, this isn't going to be our season.

Mitch Brown wearing an eye patch would have been better than JK running around on that ankle for 3 quarters..

The only other option is to not bring in a tall and try Newman or Neates or someone like that.

This is a huge injury, the one player we couldn't afford to lose. It's not come at the worst time though, he'll be back for the business end.

I'd have thought that an inexperienced small would be an ideal sub. As opposed to having a A.Selwood or a Butler.

The three tall forwards has been an effective policy, less we increase Cox and Naitanui's game time.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Send Hurn to the HFF , is getting tagged out of games past two weeks and with Butler back and Selwood into the back half , we might gain a weapon with Hurn playing a different role up forward . Wilson / Stevenson could also takes Hurns place down back also .

Whose will it be Macca?

Carlton have had seven 8-10 week injureds.
Collingwood are also having a shocking run of injuries.
Hawthorn have lost their first ruck-man
Geelong are still tending to their losses from last year with no ready-mades stepping up.

It's going to be a real war of attrition this year, considering just how many are going down.
Interesting though that teams who had a good run with injury last year, are being hit hard this year.

When have they ever had a ruck? McCaulay isn't exactly a good player. They actually got Roughead back and still have Hale.

That's a good point, noone is really having any miracle runs right now. Such a long way to go, this season more than every will fall into the 'marathon not a sprint' category.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Our gameplan requires the ability to chase and put pressure on. McInnes is far too slow(at this stage, simply due to his age) to enact that properly. Brown is not. How can you not see that? Brown was bloody unlucky and is not the awful player you want to seem to make of him.

Perhaps people like you might have learnt their lesson when it comes to players like Masten/Hill/McGinnity etc etc.

Haha I've been saying Masten was best 22 for ages, I even said it when he was dropped to the WAFL last year, said he just needed fittness back. I was happy when we got Hill too, no need to group everyone together.

Regardless of our differing opinions on Brown, he's out for 2-3. So it doesn't matter how good he is, he isn't going to play.

Here's some of my posts from we we drafted Hill:

People saying categorically that he wont push for a senior game with that ability are just hoping he fails really.

Some very good signs. How many of our best 22 have better footskills than him? and how many are faster than him?

Even some second and third efforts in there. He's got a future at our club for sure.

What's with all the hate for Hill?

His only issue seems to be application and he was coached by Eade at a Victorian club.

Woosh >>>...>>>>> Eade.

Have some faith that our club will be able to get if not the best out of him, then at least significantly more than the Bulldogs got out of him (helps a lot he's back in WA and not in Vic).

....

I'm happy with Hill, if his head is straight he can play round 1 and last the year cf a rookie it's a good choice.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Worst loss we could have. We need to make sure he mends well. As for his replacement, no point trying to fit a tall in, we more focus I50 to Darling and Hill and have Cox, NN, Lynch rotating through depending on matchups. Get another runner in to allow guys like Shuey, Kerr to spend a bit more time forward.

I like the way you think! we have absolutely nothing to loose except another player to injury!! We could like has been said bring in Brennan for schoey, and move bunga up forward! EMac will be back this week! the thought of bunga kicking a few 60m goals gets me up and about which is extremely difficult given that as a female I don't posses the correct anatomy :D

Umm , you have shocked us all ... you certainly know a lot about the game as many female supporters do !

I have seen Hurn play for Peel through the centre and kick some long goals , but I just cant see Woosha and Co going this way unfortunately .

Hurn would have the strength and kicking ability to not even worry about having a FF .

That's all I'm saying and at least you'll be getting Kennedy, Nicoski and Embley back.
You have had a great start to the year and can afford to lose the odd game without it jeopardizing your season.

I for one won't be thinking we're over the line when we have to play you at Patersons.
I doubt any team will.

HB waters - emac - mcginity
C rosa - priddis - masten
HF hill - lynch - stevens
FF cox - darling - hams

RR nicnat - kerr - scooter
INT gaff - butler, smith, weedon (sub)

anyone else want a go? i'd rest shuey, we can't afford anymore players to get injured.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

I don't think Fraser McInnes is quite ready to make the transition to AFL level. He is averaging a little over a goal a game for Perth, not exactly eye-opening at WAFL level.

It's not just the number of injuries, but more who they happen to. LeCras, Nicoski and Kennedy kicked 147 goals between them last year. The teams total was 356. That's a massive chunk of scoring power we need to make up for, and despite the improvement of Darling, and the addition of Hill, our team will greatly suffer.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

What about Simon Tunbridge?

I do not know much about him aside that he is a rookie and supposedly a key position player that was last year developing on GWS list.

Given that I live in Melbourne and have nots seen any WAFL games I am wondering if he could at some stage come into the calculation or if he is still to raw?

I understand and that's why it hurts when structures are thrown out of place for those key players.
When Carlton lost Waite and Jamison last year, we had to re-structure both lines to make sense of them again, yet you can't really adequately cover whichever way you go about it.

Fortunately for WC, you have good talls that may not take up all the slack with Kennedy out, but the team still looks to have a good balance about it.

Basically that backline except J.Brennan for McGinnity. Bring McGinnity in when we play a team with decent midfielders like Carlton/Collingwood.

Agree with resting Shuey for a week for Stevens, but Sheppard should also come into consideration if we need another outside running player (already have Kerr & Priddis as hard inside mids plus Shep is impressing in the WAFL).

Question marks over Weedon, I'd prefer Ryan Neates based on current form.

I have watched a few Perth games and would have to disagree. Fraser has been leading well with good pressure when doesn't get the ball delivered to him. Moves and chases very well. Don't just look at goals kicked, the Perth midfielders are playing for themselves would be kicking much larger bags if he was playing say for Claremont.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

Oh. Sh*t.

But we still got plenty of marking talls upfront with Cox, Lynch, Hill, Darling.

This could be Darling's time to announce himself in the AFL as one of the brightest sparks of the future.

He's been playing in the backline at Perth. I'd have McGovern as a more likely prospect up forward.

Re: Kennedy Out for 6-8 weeks

The problem is now that Darling will cop the opposition's number one defender on a weekly basis until Kennedy get back. So far he has been thriving off the third- or fourth-best defender from opposition teams. Will be interesting to see if/how he steps up.

I have also noticed our forward press has not been very effective as it was this time last year. This injury to Kennedy is another detrimental blow to our structure and game-plan.
