You are starting to give me the s***s lady. Joelly Pat was brilliant. Kept Sook to 11 possessions. Just coz his 2 goals came at the end. do not discount Joels game. He pantsed Riewoldt.

Starting to get boring.

And WTF is a player for another team doing as your avatar? This is the Lions board, Show some respect.

Whoa, bit harsh don't you think..

It's cool.

Sure, Bunton will never see one of my birthday parties, but meh :P

I'm pretty sure Bunton was being ironic with his post.

I chuckled, kez, can always find the good in Joel, but he came out last night and played all over Rewy and she's down on him. You always hurt the ones you love.

So good to see Goose playing great football again. Hope he has years of success with Lions.

Hard grind tonight in slippery conditions, that didn't lend itself to silky skills. Brisbane has a developing future.

Good luck next

Loving the disappointment at not winning....hoping the players are feeling the same way :thumbsu: Also shows how well we are starting to play in patches; when we feel that we shoud've won against a team that smashed a top 4 team a week earlier by 12 goals.

Love it.

The Lions are coming........;)

This. It's so disappointing to lose when we really had the game for the taking but how great is it that this is now our situation, rather than wishing for an 'honourable loss'. We are massively improved and still improving.

I love it too.

Our main issue seemed to be the very soft shots on goals we were giving away. Two types in particular - balls coming over the back of a pack to a Saints player to have a shot on goal and two on one marking contests in our forward line where it was two Saints to one Lion.

Maguire, Patfull and Adcock did a great job and shutting down whoever he was matched on, Riewoldt and Milne respectively, but the Drummond, Harwood and Yeo (? seemed rather unsighted, so may have been tagging) combination were just letting their opponents get too far away from them in front of goals.

Merrett's hit was on the wing whereas I was behind the goals, but the replay looked like he didn't make contact with the head. If that's the case he may not even be looked at. Not sure of the rules covering Rich.

Both will be looked at closely & so they should be. The lack of head contact will just lessen the severity didn't look at the ball & just recklessly cannoned into Riewoldt. If it were our players on the end of these actions this board would be up in arms.

While disappointing to lose lots of positives again, with the bonus of getting more game time into the likes of Yeo (moves really well & thought his way through some tight spots), Crisp, etc.

I would like to clarify about a post I made last night after the game about the umpires that I quickly got shut down about. What I said was: "Nobody should blame the umpires for our loss, they were good tonight."

Now, obviously there were a few iffy calls here and there but I at least thought they were consistent and most of the free kicks were there. I think a lot of people on here should not be angry about some of the umpires decisions but they should be angry at the rule book. I have seen Lions games officiated much worse then that in the past and I can think of at least 3 or 4 games this season where the umpires were not as good as tonight.

Now the reason I said that last night was because I don't believe for 1 second that the umpires cost us the game, I just think that we lost to a side that is better and it was quite disappointing because we were a big chance to win the game!

KerryOT, I think you were one of those posters who disagreed with my post so there is my explanation for it:thumbsu:

I think people would just like to see a free kick paid occasionally for Rich bumped and tackled around the head and for defenders arms around Brown when trying to get the ball in our forward 50.
With a free to JB inside 50 and Rich in the centre, both are opportunities to score that we are denied.

Don't know if anyone else saw this, but in the second quarter, there was some fool throwing stuff at the boundary umpire from the top deck. It happened at least twice, and it looked like a corn cob or something.

The strange thing was that security came looking at everyone in section 11 where I sit, but there is no way it came from there, I saw them hit the ground. They came directly from the GABBA Members area, at least 30 metres around from section 11. As section 11 is the first in the general public area, they must have thought it must have come from there, no way a member would be such a peanut:rolleyes:

The second one I saw hit the ground, and it only missed the umpire by a metre or so.

Bad form.

It is all about consistency.

The one that really got me is latish in the game where a free was paid for in the back while the player from St Kilda was kicking. It was there, granted, but it had happened a dozen times almost exactly the same during the match. I was listening to the Sports Ear to the direct umpires feed, and Big Sauce went and remonstrated with McPeanut who gave his primary school teacher response "now there were hands in the back Daaaannnieeel, stop complaining" Big Sauce could be heard "yeah, but both ways"

During the game, Daniel Merrett and SImon Black had a few discussions with McBurney. At one stage McBurney started giving match stats to our players "We have only paid Riewoldt 2 frees in your defensive 50"
How the hell did he know that so quickly?? Worry about the next contest McPeanut, not what has happened in the past:mad:

Possibly Reiwoldt has a given quota per game?

I have no doubt umpires are very concious of how many have been paid each way.
We have seen so many games that appear to have been umpired with bias only to find that the final tally isn't all that unbalanced. I believe a lot of games that are a bit one sided get the free kick count evened up in the final quarter.

I didn't so much have a problem with the free kicks that the maggots gave last night, it was more the ones they didn't. Merrett and especially Brown were man handled all night, Rich got an arm around wrapped around his head in the last and the sook should have given away a 50 when he crept over the mark in the third. St Kilda as a team are the worst in the league for creeping over the mark and not getting pulled up for it.

Really disappointing loss. Considering the forward line didn't really function I was surprised we managed to stay in the game until the last quarter. Great game by Huddo. Banfield continues to frustrate - he just keeps going to ground. Can see the improvement in the side but frustrated that we couldn't finish it off.

Yep, dissappointing...Although start of the year most punters had us as a bottom 4 team.

This season, the way it's played out, you can practically divide the ladder into thirds. I thought this game would show where both teams are at. Both are middle 6 able to knock off big scalps on their day but would just making up the numbers of the top 8 if they got there.. Last night showed we're not quite in that part of that middle 6 but we're getting there.. We still have fade outs where we let the opposition back in.

Banfield wasn't alone in not keeping his feet...At crucial times we went to ground and IMO more so than the Saints did...indicating we got the selection of foot wear wrong.

1 person who was saving our bacon from a bigger defeat.

KPD --> Matt Maguire.

I think we also need a awesome KPD in the future when Matt hangs up the boots.
A lot of talk about tippet but the KPD has me more worried then a KPF.
I think if we had him in the sydney game it would of been closer.

On a few of the players:

Banfield - not sure what he did to get a recall after returning from injury but he should be sent back down until he can show something. Just fumbled constantly and is no threat at all as a forward. Green and Beams both better options.

Nah Quigs reckon you need to watch his game again. He did not get a lot of it (nor did any of the other forwards) but aside from one he snatched at in the last quarter his hands were massively improved. Really surprised no one else picked up on this. He actually did a couple of really good quick-fire get and gives under a lot of pressure. When he did get the ball he looked like a completely different player.

Bewick - another who started with a few nice possessions but after about quarter time his other possessions were not of the quality I would want from an outside player.

Yep got a bit of the ball but I’m getting more worried about his disposal.

Yeo - definately the better of his two games. He was around the ball a fair bit and used it reasonably. Not a lot of class on his possessions but his disposal skills were a step up from when I have seen him before. I thought his positioning was really good tonight.

Crisp - was given a difficult position to impact from in the forward pocket but I thought when the ball was in his area he attacked it with great ferocity. He put on some really nice pressure and showed a bit of pace on occasion which I was a bit surprised about.

I’m super happy with how these 2 are traveling. Get a couple of preseasons into them and they look like they are going to be terrific players.

Cornelius - it is night and day how much better he is moving around the park than this time last year. He worked hard when the ball was in his area and applied some good pressure. He could easily have been credited with a couple more marks and if that had been the case and he converted then people would again be talking about how well he went. I think he is on the verge and could become a really nice player for us if we have patience.

Agree that his work rate has improved out of sight. Really like him, but just don’t think he has the body strength to compete one on one. Is never going to be quick so needs to become a lot stronger and/or become an elite runner. Until then I can’t see him providing anything more than the occasional cameo.

I was going to say this but I wasn't sure if, seeing as I'm not a fan, that my memory wasn't playing tricks and over emphasising his crappyness. Fumbled a hell of a lot but once he had control his disposal was better than what it has been.

Yep, think that an area he can have a greater impact is to be the 3rd one up, create the option by drifting across the pack from the side..IMO plays too much from behind the pack.

Maguire played a great game...his handball to Adcock was a bit brain fade..

Browny still can't buy a free kick to save himself.

All night Brown was getting scragged/held/arms chopped by Fisher with no help from the umpires. Was also blatantly blocked from getting a run at the marking contest on numerous occasions, no whistle. I normally don't say anything because it is par for the course with Browny, but that soft one Riewoldt got set the benchmark of inequality.

No, I'm saying he didn't fumble much at all, was pretty clean.
