An Eade/Cameron combination sounds particularly good, but I can't imagine Cameron uprooting family from Melbourne for another assistant's job with a less prominent side than Hawthorn. That is, unless succession plans were in place and I don't think that's desirable for us in our current state, nor do I think it's Eade's style.

The Eade/Bassett appointment makes much more sense to me as working for all parties.

I don't think it's realistic to expect Choco to come back in any form, unless discussions are already very advanced for a young coach (Burns) to take over with Williams as support. Personally, that would be the last thing we need as we really need significantly new blood and new eyes around the playing group.

Ratten would be a big "meh" for me, although I accept that he made steady progress with Carlton before this year. Still, on the outside it seemed as though he benefited from the coming together of a lot of good young talent and obviously a superstar in Chris Judd. I'd be concerned at his inability to develop and failure to recruit a tall forward after Fevola's departure and pretty worried about his eye for recruiting, given what seemed to be a mediocre draft for Carlton at the end of last year.

Do we all of a sudden have a new competitor for a coach with choco leaving gws it was suggested on tv last night the new senior assistant gws will take on to replace him will probably be the gws coach for 2014. Could gws approach an eade or burns and will they take their job over ours?.

Roos will be coaching GWS in 2014.

Perhaps a Cameron/Eade combo.

No to Basset unless as a defensive coach - is he better than Gotch?

Basset needs a couple of years in the AFL system to genuinely prove himself at that level before anything more senior. Cannot see him at the PAFC anytime soon. Put him in the 'shows potential' category - Port don't have the luxury of time.

Many more have the credentials.

Ratten..............still a huge NO WAY. Needs months to get his head right - analyse his strengths/weaknesses etc etc etc. Says he's a career coach - doesn't mean he has what it takes.

Hadn't thought of that. ****.

Choco continuing to find ways to screw us over when he doesn't even coach us anymore.

Watching The Sunday Footy Show. Posted this on Roast the Media thread, but can go here too. Damien Barret says that Brett Ratten should be handed the coaching role at Port, and doesn't even need to go through an interview process lol.

I honestly can't see how anyone can genuinely think that Ratten is even close to our best option for coach. Rocket coached the Dogs to 3 straight prelims as well as Sydney to a GF against probably the best Roos side ever. We are a club that knows and expects success which is probably something that ultimately the doggies may have lacked .

Just listening to Malthouse quizzed on his coaching future on 3AW. He made the point that any coach(es) who looks to emulate or copy other teams is consigned to being second at best. He encourages all of his assistant coaching staff to be innovative and look to expose an opposition's weakness.

Hope our new coach puts an end to the past five years of us trying to replicate what the opposition is doing, both in terms of our "strategy making" and our selection policies.

Yes, the guy who achieved one semi final in 5 years is so far ahead of the guy who's achieved 3 prelims and a Grand Final that we shouldn't even bother to interview the second one.

I seriously wonder what planet these media w***ers live on. It's certainly not this one.

What Malthouse said is what a lot of us have been thinking for years. When it comes to onfield matters if you try to be what Geelong or Hawthorn are now, by the time you have achieved it , they would have moved on to bigger and better things. Offield is a different matter. We used to have our own "PAFC way" of doing things but that slowly but surely dissappeared after JC went . Things like continually using the rebuilding excuse for underperforming year after year and playing to minimise losses rather than win have replaced the old way of simply backing our 22 against theirs and turning the game ugly only when the opposition gets a bit too far in front.

... we were unlikely (according to Eddie) to get Eade out of Collingwood
Eddie the politician at his best (worst). Not surprised he's trying to cast doubt about us getting Rocket, he doesn't want to lose him. The club and Eade himself will be the only 2 parties who decide whether Eade coaches us next year.

True. I didnt take it too seriously was more annoyed at these automatic assertions that these Vic based (even if originally South Australian like Dwayne) commentators think that we would do well to pick up Carltons cast offs. Always take anything Eddie says with a pinch of salt.

Seriously Rattens defensive structures are horrible if you want someone to take you to the ultimate success he isn't the bloke
