I'd be devastated if we went for Ratten. Would see it as a massive missed opportunity to right some wrongs of the past 5 years.

I'd like us to throw the kitchen sink at Eade, tbh and get another really capable assistant.

Case studies are dangerous I know, especially based on an end of season game, but watching the players start to get Hocking's message in that final game and change the way they played made me think that a strong senior assistant from another club could get us back on track.

I thought we were damaged enough to need a former senior coach to really right the ship but now I'm thinking one of the highly credentialled senior assistants like Cameron or Burns could do the job. While a senior mentor type to assist in that case would be preferable just another good thinker from outside our system (yes I'm thinking of Bassett) would probably work.

I would still prefer Eade to take on the job with an experienced senior assistant, but if he can't be persuaded then the other newer option could work.

Politics might yet play a part with Port having to justify their decision to the AFL, which might require an experienced hand on the helm in some shape.

Here is one of my main thoughts that doesn't want me to get Eade

What KPF has he developed? I want a coach that will make Shchulz and Butcher kick 100 goals between them in 2 years time. I don't think Eade will be able to do that.

We need a coach, regardless of senior assistant, ex coach etc, that is going to focus on what we can do, and stop chasing our tail trying to immitate others - its a sign of lack of confidence. I think as he grew into the role its something Hocking showed ... in fact I actually was watching the latter quarter and a bit with a bit of excitement for the first time in a long time (not sure if it had anything to do with a line bet I was riding home).

If we can improve our skills a bit, and encourage our players to play with flair and take game on, we will be more enjoyable to watch, and more competitive. If we are more enjoyable to watch our crowds will improve, and if as I suspect we win more games this way, we will be heading in the right direction.

Put the last game straight to DVD and send it to our preferred candidates.

There'll be a bidding war before you know it ;)

But realistically, any prospective coach could see plain as day that there's a huge amount of young talent in our team.

Seriously Rattens defensive structures are horrible if you want someone to take you to the ultimate success he isn't the bloke

His forward structures are worse IMO!

if eade decides that he doesn't want to go for the gig, what other senior coach would you prefer that is likely to go for the job (this is simply for those who would prefer a senior coach over an untried one)? Harvey and Ayres have been pretty quiet on getting back into coaching, i'll be getting a bit concerned if eade comes out and says he won't be putting his hand up for the job

If you ignore our geographic location and club profile, and look solely at the list its surely a better gig than Melbourne/Bulldogs last year.

This whole "port should take whoever they can because nobody wants to go there" nonsense is ridiculous.

It's an AFL head coaching job.

People aren't going to turn it down if they have ambitions to head coach.

Exactly. Melbourne and the Dogs didnt have any trouble filling the role this year, and they are the equal to us both on and off field.

In the end if they show that Ratten is the best man for the job then i'll be ok with that. I just think the whole trial by media circus wont help at all.

His 1996 Swans team had Tony Lockett. His good Bulldogs team had Barry Hall. He may not have developed these guys, but he had them in the side. He obviously sees value in them.

Rocket Eade is the man. I honestly can't see any good reason why he would not be coaching us next year. He wants to win a flag after going close several times at 2 clubs who hadn't won flags for generations as well as taking on the position when both clubs were on their knees. Port is a club that knows how to win flags. Sure it's in the shit now, but with all the changes going on and the Adelaide Oval a year away, I seriously think it will be an exciting place to be. A few good additions to our list, fitness, some luck with injuries and some decent coaching I can see Port going places.

I seriously doubt that Eade would find the collingwood job more enticing than ours. The only way he doesn't come is if he can't leave melbourne IM(uninformed)O.

So get him.

GET HIM.

PS: I vote every port BF supporter bands together and goes onto the Carlton board to tell them they should hire Primus without an interview. (Of course I do actually believe he is better than Ratten )

True, but does that mean we will be trading for one and getting Butcher out as soon as possible

Still

Cameron>Burns>Eade>Tudor>the rest

If we go down the 2 coach path (senior and new), then my preferences are:

Eade then Ratten then Ayres.
Cameron, then Burns then Bassett.

I've stuck by this club through thick and thin but if Ratten gets head the job my loyalty will be severely tested...

That's my thinking, I'm probably going to upgrade to the club 1870 memberships next year but if he gets the gig I doubt I'll bother, I'm more likely to completely lose faith.

Were did you pull that BS from.

Terry Wallace lost 2 PF's in 1997 and 1998

Ratts hasn't been good enough to get to a PF

Eade won 1 in 1996 and lost 3 in a row with the doggies in 2008-09-10.

Good point. Rocket has lost more finals than the Plough. If that's a heavily weighted element of the selection criteria, then Eade should win the job by a mile.

Scott Burns is the pick I reckon. Hasn't lost any finals yet, but he's still worth a chance.

Interesting to read this time last year Blight and Wallace were saying Ken Hinkley was an absolute must for St Kilda.
