Though our criteria in those days was a minimum age of 32, except for Spiro Korkoumelis..

Pick 10 could be Matt Crouch, a guy who could be the Selwood of this year's draft (outstanding year from a non top3 pick). Or it could be Darcy Gardiner who is a great key defender. Heck, it could possibly be a Dom Sheed type , but giving up a guy like Armo who has years left and will be a solid mid is a pretty big price to pay for an untried 18 year old. The difference between 21 and 19 is extremely minimal. .

That is definitely true, but it could be argued that Crouch would be in Top 5 consideration if it wasn't for his hand.

I feel we need another pick inside the top 10, use our first pick on Aish or another of the strong mids (best available really) and then pick 10 (like people are suggesting we should go after) on Darcy Gardiner who is suggested to go either just inside the top 10 or just outside.

From an outside perspective, I don't blame him. I think that's the sort of deal that would be pretty much fair and equitable for both sides.

Not saying we should do it, especially after Mac's game on the weekend (although I'd be hoping for more of the same between now and the end of the season- he had a game like that against Carlton, but then it took him all this time to play another one like it, so he ideally needs to start playing them more consistently, not just once every couple of months), but for those like me who loved Mac, at 200cm, taking those marks at the highest point inside 50 on the weekend, that is of course what Boyd brings to the table, being almost an identical height and weight already and being renowned for taking numerous marks at the highest point, inside 50, like Mac's ones, each week (and then going back and slotting the goal almost every time- apparently from anywhere up to 55m or more out), but while having much greater acceleration off the mark than Mac has, making him also very dangerous and effective on the lead.

Mac gave us a glimpse of some of what Boyd will be likely to bring to the table for whichever club picks him up, potentially week, after week, after week, for 10+ years. Apparently no-one anywhere near his height has dominated at the champs like he was dominating (before his injury) at any time in recent years, including the likes of Patton, Tom Hawkins, Jack Watts, Travis Cloke, Lance Franklin, etc, so the hype about him is not based on nothing and that is why it will cost a lot to get pick one off GWS. He just kicks bags of goals pretty much every week without fail and has the physical attributes to be likely to dominate at AFL level as well (and earlier in the year reportedly took 10 marks against Collingwood's VFL team, to show that he can already compete very well against men, like Jesse Hogan is for Casey).

Any legit chance we have to get Boyd to build our future team around needs to be given the utmost due diligence, IMO, as it's the sort of opportunity that in my experience (of following the drafts since about 1996) comes around very, very rarely.

I think 20 is his real lowest. Obviously his combine results and the rest of his TAC Campaign will be important as well. I would be thrilled if he is available though.

On Dunstan, I've gone cold on him. His running has come under question and at AFL level you HAVE to run. There's no excuses, even Tom Boyd works hard and gets up the ground.

No we tell West Coast to get stuffed, and offer them a later pick. If they don't take it Brown goes into the Draft with a price on his head.

I think we're paying too much here...IMO McEvoy is worth Pick 1 (even Pick 1 & a sweetener...if the way he played on Saturday is any indication)...Gilbert & Pick 21 for Pick 10?

McEvoy, Gilbert & Pick 21....Pick 1, Pick 10 & Pick 36/Josh Bruce...to be looking at trading McEvoy, it has to be one-way traffic.

There is a lot of speculation that Gardiner MAY still be growing and that he MAY be taller than 192, but is there any confirmation.
I wouldn't expect his agent to be bursting that little bubble.

Salem is yet another calm and collected midfielder. The Dragon represented Vic Metro at the Under 18 Championship and while he put in an average performance, his draft stocks should not plummet. Firstly, he is a super kick of the football. Salem is a terrific ball user, he is able to link up from the midfield without much trouble. He is easily a 9/10 kick, he has first-rate efficiency. Furthermore, Salem’s decision making and vision are faultless. Like many high quality AFL midfielders, Salem manages to slow down those around him when looking for options. He is composed with ball in hand and the vision he has is exemplary. Salem has fantastic vision, if there is an open man, he will find him and spot him up. To add to this, Salem is a strong tackler. His defensive pressure is helpful for his team and it often forces opposition players into bad kicks. Also, Salem has great agility. He has a competent sidestep which he can use to get around players. The biggest thing that will hold Salem back is his athleticism. Salem is not overly quick and he does not possess a large endurance. His inability to burst away from packs the way others do holds him at a noticeable disadvantage. That said, the intangible and tangible qualities that Salem possesses should see him selected in the first round of the draft.
