And when he got his opportunity he rewarded us with an abysmal 4 disposal game. I just don't think he'll make it. Agree he should get a couple of games before the end of the season though.

Be interested Dannnnnn to know at whose expense you would slot him in though.
I can't think why we would give games to a guy who seems a monty to be delisted, at the expense of
getting more game time into kids, or finally starting to sort out our front 6 and structure.

He has had plenty of tries at AFL level, and produced precious little. He is a fair VFL player, but for mine that seems about it.
If he does not have an AFL tank after all these years on lists, sorry it ain't ever going to happen.

I can certainly see your point, but I disagree that he's been given ample opportunity this year. It's been by a long, long way his best year at VFL level and he's been rewarded by a solitary AFL start. Yes, it was a very bad game, but others like Tutt have played stinkers in their first game back as well. For what it's worth I don't think he'll make it - his tank is too small and he doesn't seem to run to the right spots - but you have to admit that, if he could make it, it would make our side look much more balanced. He has one of the biggest and most penetrating kicks at the Dogs, along with some of the best burst speed. He should be given another opportunity before being delisted for that reason.
I do agree, however, that he shouldn't be handed games in favour of the youngsters who we know will be around next year. Given how quickly our injury list is growing, though, we're likely to gather a couple more injuries before the end of the year. Right now we haven't got many 'guarantees' that we need to get games into sitting in the reserves since we're pushing our depth with Smith, Williams, Higgins, JJ, Goodes etc all having been out for extended periods. These are the sorts of opportunities I believe we should be using to give players like Pearce, Vez, Howard and the like some opportunities before it's all over.
Just as an example, many people here had Grant delisted months and months and months ago, and I can guarantee that, had they been coaching, he wouldn't have been given games this year. Now he's in the side and we look much better with him in it. If Vez, Howard or Pearce click, for example, we'll be much better for their inclusion. We can't afford to just throw them away without a reasonable trial in what could be their final year, especially since they could offer exactly what we need.

I don't know why Jones is seen as the centre half foward for the future, he has no endurance and rarely takes marks hitting up at the ball. Full foward suits much better as he doesn't have to run as much and his best strength being his pack marking is much more valuable inside 50. If Williams was fit I'm sure he would played there all year.

... Have you watched Jones at all this year?

You basically just described the exact opposite of Jones.

I was one of those Dannnn, I figured he's got no major deficiencies other than his inability to put on weight and a weird kicking style. But didn't think he was going to ever turn it around mentally, well not at our club anyway. That said I always felt once I showed him the door that he'd comeback to bite me so hard.....haha

I don't have the same feeling with Vez??

I totally agree with you, but I just don't think we should be in the business of delisting guys that would fill a need should they click all of a sudden before giving them one last opportunity to prove themselves. I think it may be over for Vez, but I just think we need to give him one more opportunity before we delist him.

Surely your joking? Leads up the ground well and takes good contested marks. He is 5th in contested marks at the moment too. Need guys like Jones taking big marks on a wing/CHF. If anything - keep him away from FF as he is a pretty average set shot.

Anyone who says Jones is a bad set shot or even field kick mustn't have seen him this year, has kicked something like 19.7 from set shots, misses the odd stinker but he is actually a reliable set shot now.

I don't think our positions are that far apart Dannnnnn. I thought Vez was worth a try when we traded him in. When I said he had been given ample opportunities I meant over his time in the AFL system both with us and Sydney. Like I said earlier, if he does not have the tank to play AFL level by now, he never is going to.
I don't believe that his potential to produce the odd cameo effort between extended rests on the bench justifies a senior recall, particularly given how many young kids there are in the squad right now. If he takes more bench or uncompetitive/unproductive time, others have to take up the slack adding to their work load. If he as a more senior player can't even pull his own fair share of the work load, it is unfair to others to play him. Sad but that's how I see this situation.

To me it is not just because he put in one absolute shocker, it is the pressure he would put on others. Even at VFL level he seems to spend an inordinate amount of time resting on bench or field.

My take is Vez simply won't make it, and will be delisted.

The others you mentioned.... Howard... I am still not convinced, I would seriously consider any offers we might get for him.
Pearce, I am still quite hopeful for. He needs more time both to develop, and for the coaches to assess his potential. He certainly should get one more year at the very least.
I was pretty firmly in the 'Grant is gone camp' a month back. Now I am on the fence at least. Still has a lot to prove for mine. He needs to make last Sunday's game his weekly norm, not just an occasional cameo.

Should we target Daniel Currie?

Yes, Minson is getting tired and I think Campbell has alot more development in him, but it should be done at VFL level.

I'm a massive fan of Currie. If we lost Minson he'd be great for us.

I really want to get my hands on pick ten, would a deal like Minson for pick ten + Sam Darley? Or another fringe player.

Then get Currie for very little of North.

So a bloke who has never played a single game of AFL to be our first ruck? I like Currie as well but be realistic here.

Minson won't leave either.

People want Boyd to be out key forward, has he played a game of AFL?

Boyd could very well be the best player in the AFL. I doubt Currie has the same potential

I think you're looking at it wrong. It wouldn't just Currie for Minson.

Pick ten (Lennon/Taylor/Kolodjashnij/Bontempelli) + a GWS player for Minson is fair IMO. Then get Currie to come in and he and Campbell, when he's ready, can ruck.

BTW I don't think we will trade Minson, just food for thought.

Jack Watts is out of contract... What would be his current trade value?

Was thinking if BMac can turn Grant around... Maybe he could do the same with Watts. Similar types of players in my opinion.
