Does it mean he's forgone his free agent status though?

That is interesting. Does that require St. Kilda to sign off too? Does that mean we need to trade?Does it mean he's forgone his free agent status though?
Why would they get Delaney for nothing?
In effect, we agree to give them Delaney for nothing (something, like a late pick?) and in return NDS is a free agent?NDS's agent was on the radio this morning and it indicated that if both parties agree, NDS can be a free agent. North's offer would obviously be close to the St Kilda mark, but also a bit longer ( 2 or 3 years).
If NDS leaves, it will be as a free agent, due to St Kilda getting a better compensation and Delaney for nothing.

Certainly our ideal outcome.I think we'll make an agreement along the lines of:
Saints let Dal come to us as a free agent (we keep our 2nd rounder)
We trade Delaney to them at reduced price (3rd rounder pick 38ish)
We then keep 3 picks inside the 40 and we get nicky dal.

Certainly our ideal outcome.

But you need to consider the alternative. If NDS isn't a free agent, we'd have to trade for him, and a second round pick would be the least we'd have to pay. It works out.Are we saying here that the Saints will make it a condition of releasing NDS as a free agent that we give Delaney for cheap?
Considering the number of clubs that have enquired I was hoping we'd land a second round pick for him.![]()

I see what you mean. Still, NDS for nothing + a second round pick for Delaney makes me happy on the inside. A man can dream.

Would have to be a tough choice for Nicky Dal. Be a one club player or head off for potential success.
Not an easy decision to leave a club you've been at for 10+ years.
And he clearly wants them to get something out of it if he does leave.
For sure we have to. I am just saying from our point of view as supporters, it's too early to discuss the 2014 FA names, as we don't even know which of them will still be free agents come the start of the year, let alone the end. That's not to say the club shouldn't have a quick chat to their managers.so Aylett, Holyoak and Joseph waited for the 10 year rule to be formalised before deciding to speak with Davis, Wade and Rantall and one or two others, I think not. now (if it is not too late) is when we should be sawing some seeds with potential FAs for next year.
tough choice but the saints are not bending backwards to keep him either and reading today's herald sun they are thinking of trading Montagna if the right deal came up.
