I'm actually tearing up hearing about the talks parents are having to have with kids - thank god I don't have to worry about that

Any money we will 'draw' Syndey in round one of next season.
Sorry to interrupt but I'm bemused that Pickering approached Sydney last year.
He also approached Gold Coast weeks after we won the '09 flag. Guy McKenna revealed this after Ablett officially signed and I was staggered the media didn't make more of it.
It's one thing to be approached with an amazing yet unsolicited offer. It's another to have your manager call clubs out of the blue essentially asking them to bid for a star's services.
He is a snake oil salesman and has completely played both of our clubs like fools. Not cool.

Just pulled my kids aside and pulled down my life sized card board cut out of Buddy from the rumpus, and explained whats going on. My 6 year old son turns to me and said "We should've had one of Hodgey anyway Dad."
Maybe we all take a leaf out of his book.![]()
Funny, that's more or less what my six-year old daughter said. I told her that Franklin was going to play for another team; she announced that she never liked him much anyway and preferred cheering for Luke Hodge and Cyril Rioli.

Yeah my son now wants number 33 as he is still relatively young
But isn't that saying that much of it is 3rd party and not under salary cap? Which means the offer to match may be within reach. Dunno.

I get your emotion, mate, but Buddy is no genius, he's not capable of planning something.
He's just a dumb footballer.
.
On reflection, and reading the various reports, this whole thing has been a long time in the planning. Now, taking that as a given, what we have is a situation where the best interests of the club aren't being considered by Buddy and his management in any way. Firstly, strung us out with a week to make the best of it. Secondly, and most damning, the whole scenario has been constructed in such way that Hawthorn loses everything i.e. a cynical 150 year deal that basically Hawthorn would be insane to match. The Swans gain everything, we lose on face value.
So I say to you people who are magnanimous about Buddy leaving, or can 'understand it', from a list management/trading perspective, think again. The guy has thrown us under a bus. We cannot expect to get anything barring some crap compensation for this, unless something extraordinary happens. If he loved the club and wanted the best for us and his fellow players, this could have been brokered an entirely different way.
It's the very definition of a self-serving deal from both Buddy and the Swans. And as for the Fat Controller, your legacy continues to grow. Frack off to the tennis job or whatever role you're now going to slide into now you've placed your indelible stamp on the game.
I'm perplexed that more non-Geelong supporters are making a bigger deal of Franklin defecting than when Ablett did.
Say anything remotely critical of Ablett and you're quickly shouted down and called bitter etc... Apparently Ablett Jnr won all those Premierships off his own boot and owed the Geelong Football Club nothing, good on him for getting an obscene amount that's coming out the pockets of all the AFL clubs.
Whereas with Franklin everyone it seems is up in arms calling him a merc etc.. when I really don't see what the difference is between the 2 defections, they're exactly the same from where I'm standing.
Will be very interested with the AFL findings once they investigate - assuming they make the details public.
I was thinking the same thing but listening to Andrew Ireland and Eddie McGuire on AFL360 it does look like Sydney has more concessions than other clubs in this area on top of COLA and God knows what else. Ireland made it clear there was a lot of marketing in the deal and Cordy from the Daily Telegraph said something along the lines that many deals would have been cut with 3rd parties to be able to broker the deal. It looks like it has been in the making for a long time.
I think it's because we (cats and now hawks) presumed that they were going to franchise clubs that weren't a threat during their premiership window and thats why very few begrudged gaz, buddy on the other hand is going to a club that can effectively win anytime over the next few years and that's a knife from a guy who ad nauseam spoke about his love for the club
