I think relatively speaking, Shuey is the more individually credentialed player (marginally) viewed as having greater upside.

He is also worth more on the open market. I reckon MFC would gladly trade pick 2 to secure him.
I don't think melbourne would do it tbh, i know there development is god awful but it's just too big a risk for a guy that is so injury prone and while melbourne needs to be agressive, not pick 2 for shuey aggressive
i reckon anything above pick 10 and you should slam him on the table and run

Internet at it's best. Look at the percentages for Wilson and Brennan.

Lets trade Murray? for what? an expired bunnings gift card?

Surely you realize i was joking. It was clearly, or perhaps not so clearly, a poor attempt to mock how all of our players even though contracted are suddenly up for trade or requesting one.

Gotta love the trade period.

Was in reference of the AFL website. I did see your post. :thumbsu:

How melodramatic.

We're already losing Adam Selwood and Hams, so we should also get rid of Shuey and Scooter for good measure? Cox too? With Selwood and Hams gone, we're hardly going to have a remarkable amount of duckers relative to the rest of the comp
Trading one ducker/stager to another team doesn't benefit the sport, it just shuffles the deckchairs. Sure, tell them not to duck, but to use the fact they duck as reasoning to trade a player is completely idiotic.

Care to respond to the rest of the post?

No youre the one getting melodramatic. The crux of my first post was that we should jump at the opportunity to trade Shuey for pick 2 in the draft. I dont think he is worth pick 2, for reasons stated by others. It would just be a nice bonus that we would be getting rid of another ducker in the process of paying unders at the trade table. Nowhere did i say we should trade him soley for the reason of being a ducker. As for shuffling the deck chairs - id rather the cheats and divers and duckers play for any team other than mine.

What do you think Shuey is worth? Pick 1? Pick 2 and 20? When you give me your value, ill give you the 10 blokes from the 2008 draft that would be worth more to our squad than Shuey.

I'd be certain none of those mentioned will be going.

To me it's a fishing expedition by the media and some Vic teams.

West Coast has lost its long term coach and a significant portion of its support group, so let's throw some burley out and see if we catch anything.

I think you're forgetting how good Shuey is when fit. He is by far the most damaging midfielder we have, and still has a lot of room to improve when he builds his tank and learns to cope better with a tag. There is no guarantee that Aish/Scharenburg will turn out to be guns. I think you're overrating draft picks. A fit Shuey and NicNat are the two most important things for West Coast to move back up the ladder.

I'm super high on the Aish bandwagon so I wouldn't mind Shuey for #2.
I AM PREPARED FOR THE BACKLASH!

Any fan who has a little pride and doesnt adopt a win at all costs attitude cares. Ducking is a blight on the game. Players should be encouraged to break through tackles, or get off a handpass. Instead our group of plodders developed a culture of playing for a freekick, and we had 4 of the worst. Every team has 1 or 2, but the last couple of seasons its been rife in our team. And if we arent ducking for freekicks, then Cox is flinging his arms about and looking at the umpire after every ball up and throw in. I hate soccer for all the staging and bullshit those pansies carry on with, and guess what - weve been the biggest bunch of stagers in the league the last couple of seasons. I seriously hope Simpson cuts this crap out from our game.

Sorry for not looking at our team through rose coloured glasses, but the sport is football.
It's not ducking it's Head High.. free kick. Look and learn from Joel Selwood etc enpugh said.

I reckon that is an awful suggestion.

Yeo being drafted might be because Waters is in doubt , has complications from shoulder surgery and will miss two months of pre season , locked shoulder if it does not improve may be career ending .
I would be hoping that yeo being drafted/traded has nothing at all to do with the half back flank

Pre shoulder surgery combine results from WA testing at ECU Cowan University
20m sprint 2.94 sec
Agility 8.28 sec
Standing vertical 69 cm
Running vertical jump (r) 80cm
Running vertical jump (l) 92cm
Repeat sprint 21.51 sec
Beep test 15.2
No 3 km was tested
188cm
83.7 kg
Result from ECU

AFL combine. 4 weeks post surgery/rehab.
20m sprint 3.05 sec
Agility test. Didn't test
Standing jump : ?
running vertical jump (r): ?
Running vertical jump (l) :?
Repeat sprint 25.16 sec
Beep test 13.1
3 km 11.15
190.2 cm
Result from TeamWA facebook page

Big difference in results from the start of the WAFL season to now but that what you would expect after an injury and not being able to train.
Post result would have got him equal 5th in the beep test, equal 7th in the sprint, 8th in the agility, 1st in the repeat sprint, 2nd in the running vertical (l), 10th in running vertical (l) and just outside ths top 10 in the standing jump.

Would have been interesting to see what a full uninterrupted season of training and playing would have resulted in.

Now that I sit down and look at these results more closely, the pre-surgery results are really good.

I don't know too much about him, but I really hope he slides to the second round for West Coast's pick (doubt it based on phantom drafts).

Kawalsky any idea of the time period between the pre-surgery and draft combine results?

backlash #1, Watched Aish in the sanfl grand final today, wasn't THAT impressed.
Same height as Shuey but to me, doesn't look like he'd bulk up much. Big mids are killing it now. Few weeks shy of his 18th birthday and a 2 time sanfl premiership player though. Another player highly likely to do an Ebert and return home, family name pride and all.

I don't really think any of what I said could be construed as melodramatic, but if you say so...

Personally I care about the West Coast Eagles being successful more than I care about people bemoaning or not bemoaning the fact that we, like any club, have a couple of players who duck their heads to get free kicks. I didn't say that it was your sole reasoning, but for it to be included at all is pretty silly I think, much like those who complain about Smith's and Masten's tats and haircuts.

What Shuey is "worth" and what Shuey is worth to us are two different things, much like how we purportedly demanded a first round pick for Brown last year because his value to us was higher than what you would consider his actual value.
Shuey is our most effective midfielder in that his clearances and disposals give us the greatest value out of any of our mids, hence why the opposition tags him. If you take him out of our midfield group we'd lack even more pace, class and scoreboard effect. For this reason, like Brown last year, his value to us is much higher than what you would consider his value to be in a vacuum.
In another draft I might be inclined to take pick 2 for him, but when the most highly touted draft prospects are skinny outside types (Aish, Kelly) or flankers (Scharenberg, Billings), none of which look like being full-time inside midfielders, how are we expected to replace, let alone improve on Shuey's output in a midfield that's already struggling? And that's ignoring the fact that Shuey is proven quality while a high draftee might not even pan out. With that in mind I'd probably want two top 10 picks in this draft before I considered trading Shuey.

Four main things we should be doing in the trade draft period
1 keeping all our best 24/25 players !
2 draft best available pure mid with pick 6 ( Sheed) no brainer
3 try use some fringe player/s to upgrade our second pick get acres or best available big bodied mid
4 draft yeo with third pick ! Show us fans that the recruiting department has balls .
