All this talk about taking risks, I don't get it.
Wouldn't we want to be taking safe, long term options?
Merrett, Templeton, Karpany or JKH in that order for 26th would be my preferences, unless there's a freak slide (see Jack Darling pick 26).
A forward should be taken at 55, more of an athletic one, not a big lumbering thing IMO, we can take a project ruckman in the draft, if one of Ryder or Daniher goes down long term, then promote.

There's so many options lol
I'd like to see Marsh 26, Conlon 55. Then we can pick up say Brown or a mature VFL ruck in the rookie draft.

A mature ruck on the primary list is better than one on the rookie list

True, I dunno I think Daniher, Marsh and Conlon together could become a formidable forwardline in a few years.

I think one of Marsh, Bellchambers and Daniher would be even better

Thats a good point, but if Conlon's aerial ability and "x-factor" is as good as reported we'd be silly not to take him. Before he was injured he was being touted as a potential top 5-10 pick and the 2nd best forward behind Boyd.

Nah he didn't really find the ball in juniors either. He's always been an impact player who struggles for consistency. I'm not saying it won't improve but knowing where to run to find the ball has never been a strong part of his game at any level imo.

I will partially agree with Paddy. Rohan like Sam day is one of these guys who are hyped for their glimpses despite never dominating games, and therefore are selected on PURE POTENTIAL, not on performance. In saying that I was impressed with Rohan's leading patterns against Fremantle - Definitely knew how to make space. We will find out more about Rohan in 2014.

This is the first I can remember that the Top 10 is still fluid a day out from the draft.

As Snoop Dog told me in his phantom thread, it all hinges on Brisbane. This is what's expected:

Boyd, Kelly, Billings, Bontompelli, K Kolodashinj, Aish, Scharenburg/McCarthy, McDonald (f/s), Freeman, Salem/Scharenburg

Paige is one of those parasites who spends hours pestering people who know things, then passes it off as her own work.

Beat me to it. Also, like the other gutter journos around these parts, she takes enormous pleasure in the ASADA dealio. It's incredibly frustrating to read, especially when she calls herself a serious football journalist.

It all hinges on the dogs and then the pies. If the dogs reach for bontempelli, then the pies might get aish and then the knock on effect for everyone else could mean a better mid slips if Brisbane go tall

whats all this talk about risks and crap, with every player you pick there's always a risk involved, like joel selwoods knees, or the time jack watts was taken at pick 1, bit of a risk but made a massive risk cause he went to a shit club, if geelong had pick 1 that year he would of played in a flag and would be 5 times better than he is now, its my opinion (which has proven over time to be right) that if your a crap club down the bottom you take a proven hard nut player whos played senior footy against men who will be read to go asap. non of this developing crap, your club needs results now, Melbourne stuffed up big time when they took thompas over wines, wines was a ready to go Joel Selwood.

some risks are higher than other's and some are perceived risks built up by people around the traps who know jack all or in some cases made up lies (Dyson heppells op problems) ,
there's such a thing as a calculated risk (scott gumbelton to freo) one of the reasons i loved wines last year was that he was built like a brick house and could already play against men. i hope we take the biggest strongest tank thats there a pick 26, not some 199cm 80kg bloke who will play 5 games in 5 years and then have 2 average years after that, in saying that, small forwards aren't meant to be built like brick houses ( except paul chapman ;) ) so with jkh from what iv seen he could play 5 to 10 games next year witch id be happy with, cause its his first year.

BUT FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS PURE OF HEART ESSENDON, LEAVE THE RECRUITMENT OF "DEVELOPMENT" PLAYERS WITH CLUBS FIRST PICKS TO BASKET CASE CLUBS LIKE MELBOURNE. ( jack watts, Jimmy toumpas, lucas cook, sam blease, jordan gysberts)
